    The bandsaw fence should be aligned to the miter slot. Then adjust the blade tracking until it cuts straight. Very easy. Then your fence and miter gauge and blade are correct for all cuts.

    Great video. You convinced me to buy the woodpecker squares. I taught shop, industrial arts, technical education, CTE …… whatever you call it for 41 wonderful years (most of the time) One thing that bugs me is the term “unloosen “ for loosen. Unloosen means to tighten. As I told my students “words have meaning” I guess if this is the only things that bugs me I am pretty lucky.😵‍💫😀

    I never understood buying push blocks... Especially when you have a bandsaw... Very easy to make and you can add whatever features you could ever want! I've never used a store bought push block and I don't ever plan on it lol. Those set up blocks would be useful though for setting up a router table to build cabinets with the 1/4,1/4,1/4 trick. Once you build a box with locking rabbets, pocket holes seem slow.

    @AxGryndr Před rokem +1

    There is a problem with checking accuracy of a square using the edge of your workbench which is the assumption that the edge is straight along the entire section you referenced off of. If you need a really precise square, then a good quality one will come with a certification (I don't know if the Woodpecker's do but most machinist square do). What I have found with some of the big carpenter squares is the inside edge will be square but not the outside.

  • @TailEndCustoms
    @TailEndCustoms Před 2 lety

    Looks like you could throw one on the side of the table saw blade then take another and magnet it on top over the blade so you can come up with the blade till it touches the over top block then your set for the side block sizes instead of guessing with your finger like that. 👍🏼

  • @derRoteKampfflieger
    @derRoteKampfflieger Před rokem

    Just a tip. If you are using the framing square to scribe a line you use the inside edge not the outside. That test was doomed from the start.

  • @FredJones-ej9jx
    @FredJones-ej9jx Před rokem +1

    You can get machinist squares that are cheaper and guaranteed to be more accurate. Woodpecker says within .001 per foot, Taylor Toolwork says 0.00043 accuracy

  • @Aztecs911
    @Aztecs911 Před 2 lety

    This question about the two different squares being square or not. The deal with the carpenter square being a little off is that the LONG section butting up against the wood side is catching more wood surface that may/is not perfectly square itself thus throwing off the line you draw. The smaller woodpecker is not catching as much surface it's butting up to thus will not project more on the line you draw. Two lines drawn that are very little off where they start will separate more as the line moves away from the start. Geometry stuff. The woodpecker is still cool.

  • @erickdanielsson6710
    @erickdanielsson6710 Před 2 lety

    You can fix the framing square. At the angle use a hammer and dimple punch. If the square is showing less then 90 degrees, dimple the inside corner to about half way. This expands the metal outward till you are at 90 degrees. If the square is more than 90 degrees. Use punch starting at the Outer point working towards the inner bend. This causes the arm to move inward. Hard to explain, easy to do.

    All carpenters squares go out of square easy but is easy to fix. You should check all squares on a regular basis to make sure they are still square, even the nice woodpecker squares can go to square if dropped and hit just right. The only square that has remains square in the last 40+ years is my speed square.

    I completely agree on the Incra V27. I got one for my DeWalt hybrid table saw and what an upgrade! Considering the cost of a Sawstop, why not partner with Incra to include the V27 (and probably increase the price) - sounds like a marketing opportunity for both companies!

I was blessed with a Christian mother and father plus a Christian mother in law and father in law. All four have gone home to Jesus. Great video and some cool tools I need to relook at what I'm using in a few places. One you missed though is the pencil you're using. Literally the best $9 I ever spent on a pencil is the same one you're using. Perfect size lead, 2.8mm & really liked that it comes with multiple colors of leads. But I thought the best thing was the little sharpener built into the end that screws out so you can give it a good point from time to time. It also has the steel barrel that allows you to fit the pencil into tight places to make a mark.

    All squares, even really cheap squares. Are square when manufactured. All squares can get out of square if they get dropped or abused. Framing squares are often out of square because they are used for construction and are dropped a lot. Also their large size make them easier to bend than smaller squares. The great thing about framing squares is they can be fixed to be back square. Look on CZcams for how to videos.

    I too am dumbfounded as to why a premium table saw would come with such crappy miter gauges. Also, their push sticks that come with most saws leave a lot to be desired and most of the time are quite dangerous. And another gripe; why in the world can't they include a premium saw blade with the saws? They can't use the excuse that they are trying to save the consumer money because for the most part, we trash the included blades and other accessories and buy aftermarket ones. In essence, their not saving us anything at that point. Great video Matt. Most of the stuff you described, I already have. All but the new bench cookies. Thanks.

    So I buy a new square, Can't afford Woodpecker. I test my old framing square and it'd not square. How do I know which of the two squares is not square? I could use the dual line method but then, why buy a new square? I know shiny red things are great but maybe I should spend the money on better wood?

    Matt, I am sorry but I can not afford $169 for a right angle square. Can you recommend a more affordable right angle square?

    Wow, just goes to show, it doesn't matter where you live...city, country, north, south, east or west, you will always have someone trying to steal in your area.
