Excellent content! Woodpecker seems to be a great product, just can't get onboard with the Louis Vuitton pricing.
Just going to use a cnc and make one lol might be cheaper
Especially when you can spend just a few minutes truing your framing square for free.
I cannot help but agree. I am safe from their pricing plan, since I cannot buy them without a 6 to 12 months financing plan!
Quick tip: those toppers for the bench cookies, dip the tip in that dip can you used for the tool handles and hammer, it won't dent anymore and it grips better that the plain plastic.
I know they don’t get as much views as the tool videos but I enjoy the build videos so much more and that’s the reason I originally subscribed I hope to see more! Hope you and your family are doin well!
Tip for the setup blocks. Put another one on top turn it over the blade/router bit to use for exact height without having to use your fingers
Found your channel a couple weeks ago, then realized you're local to me, haven't stopped watching since. Appreciate the story- the work- and the videos.
Awesome, thank you!
Another great video Matt. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. 👊
Whoa! Nice bandsaw. First time I saw it.
Love the shirt!
Really cool tools!! Thanks Matt!!
I love these videos, but I hate these videos. I love them because they are so useful, but it makes me want so much for my new shop LOL
Probably worth pounting out the Woodpecker also have a millimetre version for the more evolved woodworker.
Great video. No need for the music. You are the entertainment!
Just bought that mitre. Thanks buddy!
Dang! I'm ordering the project blocks and the push block NOW!
Great video. I'll have to keep my eye out for that miter gauge. The delta one is a little wanting as well.
Another great review clip!
Awesome video thanks
Got that mitre gauge today. Pretty square outtathe box and no play in the slot after adjustment. I dig this!
Would be nice to see at least one build video for every 50 of these.
I did a desk build and a router stand build 2 weeks ago but barely anyone watched.... You may have missed them too 🤷♂️. That's why there are less of those and more of these. Folks don't watch the builds as much. I still do them and like doing them but also have to make videos the majority of people actually want to watch.
Love your videos Matt. Keep up the great work!
I didn’t realize the incra was so affordable. I literally went and bought one after watching this. Appreciate the info!
I love my gripper and now after seeing their pushblocks I will for sure get me a set of those, great product. Like your I'm very cautious of the bandsaw which I think is the scariest tool in the shop
The micro jig smart pushblock are great and even when using the pad without the tabs it is by far the grimiest I’ve ever used.
I have the Incra 1000SE miter gauge and I love it. I’m sure the V27 would be a great (and cheaper) addition to the table saw.
Love your videos brotha 💪
I appreciate that
Thanks for the tip on how to see if the square is true or not. I just check mine and it is a tiny tad off.
Bought the Incra V27 from Amazon. They just chucked it in a box with no padding. Plastic had fallen off etc. so delicate tools try a good source.
Excellent video. Helpful.
Awesome video, brother. Love the shirt, by the way. I recently made a hoodie with that same verse, but a different style. God bless. 🤙🏽
absolutely like Woodpeckers!!
The bandsaw fence should be aligned to the miter slot. Then adjust the blade tracking until it cuts straight. Very easy. Then your fence and miter gauge and blade are correct for all cuts.
Thanks for the video. I have been watching the whole series.
Thank you
Great video. You convinced me to buy the woodpecker squares. I taught shop, industrial arts, technical education, CTE …… whatever you call it for 41 wonderful years (most of the time) One thing that bugs me is the term “unloosen “ for loosen. Unloosen means to tighten. As I told my students “words have meaning” I guess if this is the only things that bugs me I am pretty lucky.😵💫😀
The numbers on the side are brilliant
This video needs to be added to the "Must Have Tools Every Woodworker Needs" playlist
As luck would have it I was looking for a new miter gauge for my table saw. She just ordered it for me. Followed your Amazon link and it was 69.95. A great deal. Thanks.
Great deal! You'll like it!
I never understood buying push blocks... Especially when you have a bandsaw... Very easy to make and you can add whatever features you could ever want! I've never used a store bought push block and I don't ever plan on it lol. Those set up blocks would be useful though for setting up a router table to build cabinets with the 1/4,1/4,1/4 trick. Once you build a box with locking rabbets, pocket holes seem slow.
Great Vid - Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
I like your Rikon bandsaw I’m looking to replace my Kalamazoo industrial saw that is decades old and hard to find parts for
There is a problem with checking accuracy of a square using the edge of your workbench which is the assumption that the edge is straight along the entire section you referenced off of. If you need a really precise square, then a good quality one will come with a certification (I don't know if the Woodpecker's do but most machinist square do). What I have found with some of the big carpenter squares is the inside edge will be square but not the outside.
Looks like you could throw one on the side of the table saw blade then take another and magnet it on top over the blade so you can come up with the blade till it touches the over top block then your set for the side block sizes instead of guessing with your finger like that. 👍🏼
Just a tip. If you are using the framing square to scribe a line you use the inside edge not the outside. That test was doomed from the start.
You can get machinist squares that are cheaper and guaranteed to be more accurate. Woodpecker says within .001 per foot, Taylor Toolwork says 0.00043 accuracy
Of course their price at that accuracy level is gonna be exponentially higher, no doubt!
Worked in a high end cabinet shop we just used boards with nails lol
I appreciate that shirt. I love me some periodic table references.
Tremendous! You get better and better at these videos the more you do. I like these as much as your project videos. You have your own opinions which are not swayed by the manufacturers. Thanks a bunch!!
Thank you!
Id rather watch a skilled woodworker then a very wealthy one.
Can the incra mitre gauge be incorporated into a table saw sled? I recently built your safer sled with a 3/4” base. Thank you!
Want a cheap alternative to setup blocks that you probably already have? Drill bits.
I like the woodpecker squares, but the cost is high.
Great video, the kreg project block link is going to an evolution mitre saw?
I'll check it. thanks
This question about the two different squares being square or not. The deal with the carpenter square being a little off is that the LONG section butting up against the wood side is catching more wood surface that may/is not perfectly square itself thus throwing off the line you draw. The smaller woodpecker is not catching as much surface it's butting up to thus will not project more on the line you draw. Two lines drawn that are very little off where they start will separate more as the line moves away from the start. Geometry stuff. The woodpecker is still cool.
I miss your builds
Thanks. I still do them at about 1 or 2 per month. The reasons there are fewer is because they are hardly watched compared to the tool videos.
I don’t own a sawstop so this is a maybe: on the side of the miter gauge it looked like there are small adjustment screws to eliminate the wobble in the miter slot.
I am also curious how many (percentage wise) how many Woodworkers are firmer police officers. I'm aware of two, you and me. I was in municipal policing for 13 years.
You can fix the framing square. At the angle use a hammer and dimple punch. If the square is showing less then 90 degrees, dimple the inside corner to about half way. This expands the metal outward till you are at 90 degrees. If the square is more than 90 degrees. Use punch starting at the Outer point working towards the inner bend. This causes the arm to move inward. Hard to explain, easy to do.
On the Incra Gauge, you say fit almost any miter slot. Mine is 5/8, will it work for that? I do enjoy the Incra stuff (not as much as they enjoy charging an arm and a leg) but it is GOOD.
Seven videos that my wife doesn't want me to watch...
All carpenters squares go out of square easy but is easy to fix. You should check all squares on a regular basis to make sure they are still square, even the nice woodpecker squares can go to square if dropped and hit just right. The only square that has remains square in the last 40+ years is my speed square.
Did you build that work table? Do you happen to have the build plans somewhere or a video building it?
Yes I did, video here czcams.com/video/CCnbT7qk9V0/video.html plans are on my website (link in description)
You are gonna make me spend money!
The setup blocks are currently not available on amazon
Make your own push block for free
I paused at 9:54, and it seems like the woodpecker measurements on the squares line up on left, but DON'T line up toward the right. Optical illusion?
you said you'd put the magnets on the bottom because of vibrations, you could put them up above like you had before if you put a large magnet behind the blade cover as a magnet enhancer, might be nicer having them at eye level!
I completely agree on the Incra V27. I got one for my DeWalt hybrid table saw and what an upgrade! Considering the cost of a Sawstop, why not partner with Incra to include the V27 (and probably increase the price) - sounds like a marketing opportunity for both companies!
Isn’t the table saw plate lower than the table? Won’t that affect the height when using the blocks on the plate vs the table?
Another great video,,,, But lets hold back on telling Woodpecker that they could charge more....I agree BUT,,,,,, LOL Have a Blessed Day!!!!
Lol
Good list Matt. the rockler bench cookies seem to have a better non-slip surface. Do you think that the Kreg blocks hold just as well or just good enough. I am not trying to be negative - I am just curious.
They seem to hold the same as the Rockler's. I couldn't tell any difference. Of course these are new out of the box so I guess time will tell if they get slippery over time.
@@731Woodworks I would love to hear your opinion after using them both for a while. Thanks
Lovein' the t-shirt. Where can I get one?
kerusso.com (linked directly to it in description)
Matt another great video on tools. Please keep up the great work brother!!
Thanks 👍
Also thanks for your "Mother's Day" email. It was a touching story about your family. I printed it out for my wife and best friend of almost 48 years, Karen to read. It was also a testimony of the POWER of Christ in we Christian's lives, yours, mine and all that believe in the POWER of Jesus Christ!! I was blessed with a Christian mother and father plus a Christian mother in law and father in law. All four have gone home to Jesus. I am blessed also with a Christian wife, an only child, a daughter that is a Christian wife, mother of three (one has made their profession of faith) and physical therapist plus a Christian son in law.
Great video and some cool tools I need to relook at what I'm using in a few places. One you missed though is the pencil you're using. Literally the best $9 I ever spent on a pencil is the same one you're using. Perfect size lead, 2.8mm & really liked that it comes with multiple colors of leads. But I thought the best thing was the little sharpener built into the end that screws out so you can give it a good point from time to time. It also has the steel barrel that allows you to fit the pencil into tight places to make a mark.
What species of wood is the board you use in this video? I made some picture frames from it but I can't remember what to call it. Lacewood?
It is leopardwood
Why doesn’t Woodpeckers just produce a basic framing square that’s actually square?
Akurit video, unfortunately we don't get woodpecker tools where I'm from :/
Do you like those set up blocks better than the Kreg Setup blocks
I like them both. It would be a toss up. Really depends on how well the Kreg hold up over time. I've had the Rockler blocks for a long time and they've never failed me. I think the Kreg's have some great features that the others don't have.
All squares, even really cheap squares. Are square when manufactured. All squares can get out of square if they get dropped or abused. Framing squares are often out of square because they are used for construction and are dropped a lot. Also their large size make them easier to bend than smaller squares. The great thing about framing squares is they can be fixed to be back square. Look on CZcams for how to videos.
and off to amazon I go
I love these videos. But if I bought everything you tell me that I need...I would have to find ways to obtain more money!!! ;)
👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Why in the name of Sam Hill would you want a magnet to attract a bandsaw blade towards a setup die? It seems unsafe to me, would you elucidate please?
An engineer would say that you don’t need four bench cookies as three non-collinear points determine a plane😉 I would personally still use all four though just to be safe.
If you un loosen something, you're tightening it
What happened to your Harvey MG-36 Mitre Gauge?
Still got it and use it.
Not sure if that's a good way to check the squareness of your old square.
The idea is right, but I believe the implementation - - hanging part of it over the edge - - causes trouble.
Matt, didn't TayTools send you something to clamp on your carpenter's square to keep it from sagging off the edge of the table? If you're not using it any more I could find a use for it.
I too am dumbfounded as to why a premium table saw would come with such crappy miter gauges. Also, their push sticks that come with most saws leave a lot to be desired and most of the time are quite dangerous. And another gripe; why in the world can't they include a premium saw blade with the saws? They can't use the excuse that they are trying to save the consumer money because for the most part, we trash the included blades and other accessories and buy aftermarket ones. In essence, their not saving us anything at that point. Great video Matt. Most of the stuff you described, I already have. All but the new bench cookies. Thanks.
Where do you get your shirts?
Linked in description to this one. It's from kerusso.com
I had a Woodpecker’s 1812 square. I said it was out of square, I had done the flip test with the square just like you did. They told me that the flip test is not very accurate. Thats the word that came from them (Woodpeckers) ……
Where do you buy your wood from
wtghardwoods.com
My husband is asking where you order your wood from
@@dezaraemcdonald7175 I get mine shipped from wtghardwoods.com I did a video on his store here czcams.com/video/EsMhiGBho0s/video.html he can watch to see all he has to offer. Excellent service from Mark at WTG!
So I buy a new square, Can't afford Woodpecker. I test my old framing square and it'd not square. How do I know which of the two squares is not square? I could use the dual line method but then, why buy a new square? I know shiny red things are great but maybe I should spend the money on better wood?
So far that's 35 tools I need 😆🤣
Don’t forget about the 5 under $30, that’ll make it 40 😂
🤣 all joking aside, you and your channel have helped me alot 👍🤙
Sadly most power tool companies put crap miter Gauges with their machines
I'd have all these tools if someone would send them to me, gratis.
You asked why you are struggling to get more people to subscribe to you is you were such a good woodworker you was honest you showed you faults you was the man to watch but now your all about making money and getting free tools people want to learn not watch advertising they want to watch people building furniture and that’s were you went wrong your a nice guy but the free bees have took over your life sorry for being honest but you really are a nice guy
As iron sharpens iron...
Matt, I am sorry but I can not afford $169 for a right angle square. Can you recommend a more affordable right angle square?
Swanson makes good products. I would grab a Swanson Speed Square, they can be purchased for under $30
Ok, thanks, love the videos and the great insight.
Between you and James Franklin, it’s a toss-up as to which of yinz is more dangerous to my credit card balance.
😂
Wow, just goes to show, it doesn't matter where you live...city, country, north, south, east or west, you will always have someone trying to steal in your area.
I gotta stop watching these lol. No I don't know I need them but then I watch the video and buy them 😢
