    W212 E63 is still my dream car! The new E-Class is nice, but the W212 is (in my humble opinion) by far the best looking E-Class ever made! I did drive a 2014 E63 years ago and that experience only cemented my love for that car! 👍🏼

    A much needed video for those with the W212 and C218. I followed the PDF guide which was good enough, and did the 12 colour ambient lighting + 4 matching footwells. It looks amazing. The stock 3 colours were so terrible.

    PSA: For those wondering if their kit only has 12-colours. Open the main module (the one with the largest set of pins). When you carefully removed the box cover you will see a switch of "ON", "KE" and "1"&"2". Move the switch of "1" to the "ON".
    Now you have all of the 64-colours to choose from. (Funny though I moved the "2" to the "KE" and it also worked.

    • @ExoticCarDIY
      @ExoticCarDIY  Před 2 lety +1

      I would estimate most of the work is going to take two to three hours. A lot of the work is repetitive, so once you figure out how to do one door, the other three go real quick.
      However there are just a few places, such as fishing the wires through the door, or perhaps a vent getting stuck like mine that tends to add a significant amount of time... Maybe an additional 30-90 minutes, pushing the total time to 4 or even 5 hours maybe.
      For me, the time didn't matter since I was more concerned about being gentle and not breaking anything.

    Finishing installing my ambient light kit. It wasn't hard to do just a little labor time consuming. I tested everything before putting door panel back. Everything worked just fine really nice. However after installing door back nothing was working. Removed door panel to check all connections and everything was good. Re-installed door panel connected back car neg cable and lights came back on. Turned off the car came back later and no lights 🙁. I checked all ambient light fuses just in case and they are all good. At this point just going to leave it as is for now till I get in the right frame of mind to deal with it. Kind of frustrated it didn't work out like yours and I fellow your video installing by the T.

      The only issue I had on mine, is the back right door color was completely different. I found one cycling through the colors, it didn't have red. I took the door panel back off and found simply one of the connectors the pins had backed out. I was able to push the pins back in and then plug in the connector and everything worked fine. I'm wondering if it's something similar to yours. Obviously it's a lot of labor, but you could swap a module from one side to the other two. The only soldering involved is because you have to pass wires through the very small area of the door.
      If you can somehow slip the connector through, you would not have to solder the wires back together. But most people have found it impossible to get the connector through.

    • @ExoticCarDIY

      I'm not had a chance to try out any of those kits with all aftermarket lights, I would assume that they are brighter since these are just a single emitter with a light pipe versus strips with multiple LEDs.
      My goal was not a crazy light show, it was to essentially have an improvement to the OEM setup, more colors, significantly brighter, although still controlled and installed like the OEM version.

      Three of the doors require no running wires whatsoever. You simply just plug into the door module in each door.

    hi, anyone else have similar problem like I do?
    Basically my drivers door lights up constantly in red colour even when I turn them off from the steering wheel button. Drivers door continue lighting up in red and obviously when all lights are on drivers door is not matching the colour with the rest of the doors and dashboard.
    I've ordered new replacement module due to suspicious of defective. And then new one arrived installed it and it fixed the issue with the drivers door but all other doors and dashboard are not working at all with the new module?

    • @ExoticCarDIY
      @ExoticCarDIY  Před 2 lety +1

      Usually if you ordered it from DMP, they'll fix it right away regardless.
      The back door was a completely different color. I found one I scroll through all the colors that it was missing red. Which obviously affects the other colors as well. When I inspected the harness, I found that one of the pins had just slightly backed out of the connector. Pushing it back in, fixed everything.
      Maybe you can check the harnesses on each connector, make sure none of the pins have backed out of the plug even just tiny bit causing a loss connection on one or more of the colors.

      If you bought it from DMP, you should be able to switch it from 12 to 64 via the pins inside. You can email them and ask them how.
      It's pretty easy job, just take your time and try to understand the clips so you don't break anything. By far the hardest part is just trying to feed wire through the door tube. If I was to try it again I would use a very very light string on one side and a vacuum on the other, use the vacuum to suck the string through, and then use the string to pull the wire through

      If you're running into issues with color, meaning it lights up but it's a different color. Remember the colors are made from mixing the light from the four colors provided in the leds. I ran into an issue or one of my doors had a color that was way different than the other ones. It turned out it was missing red. I pulled the panel off and found that one of the wires had backed out of the connector so red was not being turned on. I pushed the pin back into the plug and it worked perfect after I was done. I assume something similar is going on with your center connection, one of the lights is not connected and that's why the color is different

    Hello, after some time after I installed this ambient light kit, an error related to the sam and actuation module appeared on the service tester and I understood that it would be related to the fact that the car needs more voltage because of the kit ambient lights. Has anyone encountered this problem? any idea how i could solve this situation? Thanks in advance for the answers

    • @bogdanalexe820
      @bogdanalexe820 Před 11 měsíci +1

      we fixed the issue with SAM mode errors. It was an imperfect connection because those white plugs in the ambient light kit are not as accurate as the original ones, so you have to be careful when making the connections, to make sure that the plugs are properly clipped. So everything is fine now, I left this message, maybe someone else has this problem
