Mark Martin Drives His Favorite Car Again! Reunited with Legendary Roush Racing Chassis "JR51"

  • Mark Martin is well known for driving the red white and blue #6 Ford Thunderbird/Taurus NASCAR Winston cup car. In 1998 Mark had a home run year winning several races, many of which were done in the same car called JR-51. Jack Roush chassis 51 was built for the 1998 season and ran until the end of 1999 when it was converted to a 2000 Taurus body for testing. Somehow it ended up under someones lean to in Rockingham NC where it sat abandoned for 20 years. Landon Best here grew up a huge Mark Martin fan and stumbled across this car for sale. Once he was able to validate what it was he quickly got the ball rolling on returning it to its legendary 1998 configuration with painstaking detail. Mark hops in, fires up that Ford C3 engine, and paces the NASCAR Cup series field at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This car also coincidentally won the very first race at this track in 98. Mark has not been on a racetrack in this capacity since he retired. He sits down with us to reflect on his experience after the race and has some profound things to say. I like how mark tells how he felt being in car going around the track. I love to meet him and just talk bout the good Ole times. Mr. Best you are the man

Was a huge fan of Mark Martin during his racing years. One of my all time favorites. He was an awesome driver with tons of driving skills. Won many races, too. It's too bad he never won a championship. It really sucks because he really deserves being a Cup champion. And, he was one of the cleanest drivers in NASCAR history. No matter how hard he race anyone, he was always clean hard racing. Never hit or bump or spin you out. Awesome sportsmanship! I'm glad he won many races and is a 5-time IROC champion. 👍👍👍👍👍😁

It was that overwhelming. I have this die cast as well. Now I know the full history of it. This is the NASCAR I miss so much. I no longer watch it regularly because of what it has become but your channel brings back memories constantly. I’m from Mississippi so I’ve always kept up with Lake Speed and have met him more than once and getting to see him again is wonderful. So thank you for your hard work to bring all these memories back.

My Dad worked for GM, and we'd always been Chevy fans, Earnhardt fans, yadda yadda yadda..... But, Mark Martin was the one Ford driver that had the numbers of the other legendary drivers...
Me, my Brother, dozens of friends, and some relatives that lived outta state; we'd bring them to the Infield Bash at Michigan International Speedway... We went to every August Race, from 1992-2000. Hitting a couple June races, too. 1996. 1997. 2000. .... Saw Mark literally DOMINATE the entire weekend, on a couple occasions.... several, even....
The #60 Winn Dixie Ford, and that infamous #6 Valvoline Ford
Huge Respect for this guy... Who retired in a Chevy.

Mark is the MAN, if you gave him a vintage race to run this car, that "racer switch" he talks about would flip back on and he would slay the field. This guy had a talent that came from above.
