This car was originally a standard 1969 Charger of AJ King Enterprises before being purchased by Dave's sponsor in a team buyout. Chrysler had Dave take it to Nichols Engineering to receive the Daytona aerodynamic package for the 1970 NASCAR season! Aside from paint this car is almost all original to its last raced form!

He certainly deserves to be in the hall of fame. Without him, many may not have lived to be in the HOF. I'm talking about his work with Goodyear to develop the inner liner. It was simply a matter of driving over a spike at Daytona at close to 200 mph & trying again. The other driver didn't survive the crash. He deserves far more credit than he is given in the development of Safety for NASCAR. That takes REAL stones. He's a treasure & we're wasting him. He needs celebration as a Pioneer in Motorsport!

Incredible to watch all the memories come flooding back in real time - I damn near got waterworks going watching that. Also, Dave does not move like an octogenarian at all!
That smile is the same for all true car guys from amateur to professional and in all forms of racing. Personally I built and raced 5 cars and still remember every detail. They all still live in my dreams though some more than others.
Dave at 82 climbed in that window easier than I would be able to at 51. 😂 Amazing guy!

Guys like Dave Marcis were the heart and soul of NASCAR. I didn't always realize or appreciate that when I first started following the sport, but I sure recognize it now. For Dave to be able to do the things he did with so little funding is simply amazing. This dude is every bit the legend to me as any of his peers that won numerous races and championships driving for the super teams.
Met Dave Marcus 3 years ago at a truck stop in Poynette Wisconsin, while we were traveling to Montana on a snowmobile trip. If we had more time, Dave would have talked our ears off, what a nice guy.
Whoever gets this one from Mecum in Janurary hopefully restores it back to its #30 Winter Park Dodge glory with Dave's help. Love his knowledge. There's a photo of the #30 that was restored in 1978 with that scoop on there, it was black. It's on some blogspot website.
To see that smile on Dave's face said it all. Made me get emotional seeing that. Thank you for hard work on the history of nascar.

Now this is the coolest one yet. Everyone liked Dave and Earnhardt trusted him as a test driver. Was he wearing his wingtip shoes? I can detect some of that Wisconsin accent. He is relating a lot of history.

Damn, Dave knows that car inside and out and he has not driven it in years. Dave always was inspiring, and he was good friends with Dale Earnhardt and RCR would help him with cars and parts and he would help test IROC cars.

Wow Dave Marcus hasn’t aged a bit! He looked old when I was younger watching racing with my dad and I’m 40 now. All jokes aside it’s great to see he’s doing well and still alive great video!
That’s the absolute truth. I’m 41 and I can remember Dave looking ancient in the late 90s. Today? Maybe an extra wrinkle or two, but throw a helmet on him and at 82 could probably knock out a few competitive test laps.

Thanks Mitchell for posting this video. Dave Marcus memory, agility, and story telling is astounding. My wing tip story is after graduation from college in 1973 I began wearing full suit and dress shoes on daily basis. I began having foot problems and suffered for 2 years until a Dr. at Mayo Clinic told me to wear wing tips because they were made wider than most shoes. I wore wing tips from 1975 until 2016 when I retired. I always told people I wore wings tips because Dave Marcus did and I was a fan of his. Please do follow up video with Dave. Thanks again.

For me this is the best video. Dave Marcus was from a time when drivers worked to pay bills and were the soul of NASCAR. Sadly today it's more about entitlements. Loved his smile when that engine started and the knowledge he still retains is awesome. In my book he was and is an unsung hero.

Mitchell, I absolutely love this video. I’ve been a Dave Marcus fan for a long time. My family and I visited the Charlotte area race shops years ago in the late 90’s, on the way to Charlotte we stopped at a NASCAR memorabilia store in Asheville I think. The owner asked if we had visited the Dave Marcus shop. I answered no however I wanted to. To our surprise it was just a few blocks away. I think it was in July around the fourth. We drove up to the shop and found a shop door that was open and we walked in. Several guys were working on one of the cars. One car was wrecked the previous week sitting to the side. The hauler was already gone. One of the shop guys came over and gave us a quick tour. We literally had to step over a motor and transmission to walk through the shop. There was stuff everywhere and the only way we could tell it was his shop was the race cars were there. As we walked through the shop the shop guy asked my young son if he wanted to get in the actual car that they were working on. Of course he said yes. He helped my son through the window and actually attached the window net. It was the coolest thing. He gave my son an autographed hero card and a few lug nuts. Our visit was by far the best experience a race fan can have. We walked outside to the area they painted the cars. It was basically a lean to structure exposed to the weather. He pointed to the area where we had parked and told us that it was the spot where they practiced pit stops. It was memorable for sure. It also showed us the difference between a racer and a driver. Dave Marcus was a racer. Thanks for doing these videos. I loved it when Dave went to the floor and slid under explaining the springs. Your video reminded me of our visit.

Outstanding video of Dave Marcis. Dave is 82 years old and seeing him lying under the car and then getting in and out of the car with no assistance is unbelievable... His stories were great and he is so sharp. Dave talking about USAC winged cars with drivers Roger McCluskey and Don White was so cool. The picture of Roger was at the Milwaukee Mile (I have a program with this picture) and watched both of these gentleman race against each other at the Mile. Keep up the Outstanding videos!

I loved when Dave started talking about USAC and Don White in particular. Don did indeed drive that Dodge Daytona in 1970 at Riverside. The car did not have the air box on the door, or the number 3. Don ran that day with the number 93, and would eventually run that number in all his USAC races years later!

The wingtip warrior and his wing car!!! Ive been waiting for a Dave Marcis Video and here it is. He is a true legend of the sport, a self made driver and owner. Didnt have the big money other teams had, but was able to qualify for the Daytona 500 for over 30 years straight! He has a tremendous knowledge of the sport, the cars, the drivers, the races. I grew up 1/2 mile from his home in Wausau, and the guy with him, Tod Wagner, is also a wausau boy that went south to work for Dave. Looking forward to more videos with Dave.

Hey Stapleton listen I love what you're doing here man. I love the channel! You are definitely carving a niche for yourself. So I just want to say that these NASCAR stock cars need to be preserved especially these older historic ones like this wing car. Of course me being the Mopar nut that I am. If somebody said hey, this museum's closing and they got a wing card, can we store it your house? I'd be like moving heaven and earth to make that happen. But yeah historic NASCAR stock cars need to be preserved. They need to be saved. They need they don't need to be out rusting away and you know somewhere and I love what you're doing. Bringing all of this this history back and and promoting it and making people aware of it. Because you know if it ain't for people like you who's keeping this history alive then younger generations will grow up and they won't know nothing about it and it'll just be what that's just garbage you know throw that thing away and you know that thing was you know the the engine block to to the 60 that was a 64 Daytona 500 winning race car and I really like Dave Marcus. I always have and him sitting there talking about when he was a kid. He buy a hot rod magazine and that's how he learned about race cars. I kind of chuckled a little bit because I did the same thing. I did not come from a racing automotive family. I'm just the opposite

What a great piece of history. Thank you so much for putting this together. I remember watching Dave race growing up. How can anyone forget his wing tip shoes he raced in. Or Richard Petty's cowboy boots. Looking at the sign in the background, looks like I saw this before the final day of the museum. What a lost treasure. 20 years older than me and Dave climbs in that car like he was a kid again. Amazing man.

Can NEVER get enough of The Legendary Dave Marcis! He is a living encyclopedia of everything Nascar. Dave mentioned Dexter signs, his son Brad owns all around autobody in schaumburg il. Man the smile on his face when it started. Even tho he ran his last nascar race the same year I was born still one of my favorite drivers. Owner driver most of his career and ran in nascar until he was 61 years old. Nothing but respect for this man

I was at LaCrosse Speedway Dave Marcis night 1975. After the races they All went to Chromies bar West Salem. Trickle and Dave sat together at the bar. I stood and listened to them for about an hour. I was 21. A great night and memory.

Yeah, I loved Dave when he was racing. I also noticed how choked up he got when he talked about how Dale Earnhardt would hug his wife. That is the side of Dale a lot of people did not know about. I am still pissed that the museum is going away. So glad you have it in digital so technically it never goes away. Just wished we had scratch and sniff on computers.

To see Dave move like a spry young cat to get under the car and the smile on his face when he started it, made my day. At one point, I thought he may be gifted the keys! Kudos to Earnhardt for looking after Dave towards towards the end of his driving career... he almost broke down when talking about him. I also appreciate what you do preserving this museum through the many videos you have created. It's just so unfortunate that this place has to close. Hopefully, all the memorabilia and cars from the Winston Cup Museum go to the right people and enjoyed for years to come.

Oh man! I've been wondering about Dave. Haven't seen him in years. He's in his 80s probably. He is a fine gentleman and great ambassador of stock car racing. Independent race car owner/driver who did Goodyear tire testing, and other things to earn the money to race. He tested cars for RCR too. Mr Wing Tip and his ever present Goodyear cap on. I admire that man and appreciate his contributions to the sport of auto racing.

I'm so happy to see Dave Marcis is doing well and how sharp he is for a man in his 80's. I met Dave in 1999 at an autograph session after happy hour at Dover, he is the nicest driver I've ever met. I know he's got some great stories.
