The lower class didn’t contribute to the train by any means, weren’t doctors or anything the train essentially needed, they didn’t develop or build the train. In fact they forcefully got on the train, killing people in the process. At the point where the movie/series starts they decide that the train should be theirs as well (on what grounds?) and long story short start a revolution that not only gets a lot of people killed but it also lead to the fragile ecosystem of the train being damaged (they sacked food from the food wagons and so on). I always figured the lower class and Andrew were supposed to be the protagonists but in reality they were the bad guys all along
For those wondering, the world entered a constant ice age due to some failed experiment regarding climate change and some rich dude created a fully self sustaining eternal locomotive that somehow creates energy from movement, then went on to sell tickets to the rich, while the dirty peasants shown in here are actually invaders that entered the train without paying. Fortunately or unfortunately, the management team of the train did not kick them out and provided them with barely adequate requirements for living. This is a movie, but there’s also a show with the same name on Netflix.
But it’s not a true example of human greed. The train is supposed to be an Ark and every passenger, except for the lower class, payed the inventor for access, while the “peasants” forcefully invaded it before departure and killed others in the process. The management could have easily removed them, since they didn’t actually provide any real benefit to them.
