Believe it or not, I’ve never read “Anne of Green Gables.” Yet I’m a Canadian. That’s like not being able to ice skate if you’re Canadian!⛸ (I’m not so good at that, either.) I’ve promised myself to read this book in time for April’s “Comfort Book Club.” It’s my patriotic duty.
Ha ha! I can imagine! I also fail the Canadian ice skating prowess test! Hope you love it when you read it in April! 😄❤️📚🇨🇦

I'm wondering how the book would be to someone reading it for the first time as an adult. As an unusual side note I was reading it was banned in occupied Poland during WWII. I am going to have to do more research on that.

Thank you for bringing vintage books to our attention. I've been able to find a few of them at my local library and I'm enjoying them immensely. By the way, beautiful top/dress!
I have three complete sets of the Anne series, it speaks to my heart throughout my life, as I age along with Anne. Each stage of her life is so well explored; so relatable even now. The final novel featuring young Rilla raising her War Baby, as her siblings travel overseas to serve in WW 1 is both heart breaking and hilarious. It is so far from Anne’s own childhood experiences, and yet her personality is still a backbone within her daughters story. I cannot imagine not knowing Anne and her family, not being “ of the Race that knows Joseph”.😊
Montgomery is one of my favourite authors. I love the Anne of Green Gables series, so heartwarming. She doesn’t shy away from stories featuring loss and grief, but manages to keep things light.

You always make my day!! The Anne books are a particular favourite of mine since childhood (I'm 70 now). Two of my favourites are Anne's House of Dreams and Anne of Ingleside. Also, I have discovered Patricia Wentworth's Miss Silver just in the last year of so and now have 20 of them....I'm loving them so much! Thank you so much for your wonderful channel.
Another video full of delightful things! Those were beautiful copies of the Anne of Green Gable books. You always find the best vintage copies. ‘Yoked with a Lamb’ sounds like my kind of book. And thank you for introducing me to Lore Pemberton’s work!

The start of the year has been busy. I had this idea about embracing the colder and darker season by taking the opportunity to slow down and enjoy reading and time for reflection. Didn't quite work out that way... But I have found time to read some essays. The Alison Uttley collection sounds good.
Thank you for taking the time to create another beautiful video. L M Montgomery really is comfort reading. Of her work ‘Anne of the Island’ is my absolute favourite novel and I am always surprised how little is it talked of. ‘Rilla of Ingleside’ and ‘Kilmeny of the Orchard’ are also lovely. Happy reading!
I am catching up with some of your recent videos and so enjoyed this one. You describe books so well and with such warm enthusiasm I always want to rush to read all of them straightaway! I loved the beautiful cards and pictures you showed us too. Loré Pemberton is one of my very favourite artists, I’ve been collecting her prints for several years and adore all the cosy details in them. I was sorry to hear Handheld Press is finishing next year, they publish such an interesting range of titles. Congratulations on launching Seasons of Story on Substack! I am sure you must be so busy with all you accomplish! I have really enjoyed Seasons of Story and hope to subscribe in a while, as I am currently doing a bit of New Year economising, but meanwhile I so enjoy and appreciate all your other content, thank you for adding a lot of joy and inspiration to life!
I’ve just ordered Little Boy Lost from my local library, Miranda. I’m old enough to just about remember Marghanita Laski from when she used to appear on What’s My Line in the 60s. I recall a fierce intellect, but I’ve never actually read any of her books. I’m looking forward to correcting that, so thank you for the recommendation.
I have quite a few Alison Uttley books and a favourite local walk of mine goes past the farm where she grew up and features in so many of her books. I feel I know the landscape so much better.

Another lovely video, Miranda. I've heard good things about the Substack platform and am happy to know you have found a home there. You put a lot of work into producing your content and it is nice that this platform will guarantee a return on the investment of your time. I am sorry to hear that Handheld will be shutting down. I have several of their books and will need to check out other titles while they're still available. I am now going to search out a copy of Little Boy Lost as I am keen to discover that final line!

I think it would have helped me when I was growing up after losing my mother and me having the same name. I love reading memoirs of WW2 as my parents both served in the forces as did all of my mother's family. ❤😊 I love your dress too. I have just finished 'The Salt Path' which is so inspirational.
Hello Miranda - I’m a very new subscriber and I live in Tasmania (the little island state of Australia). My great grandparents moved here from Bingley in Yorkshire in 1909 - when we visited the UK almost 10 years ago we spent a week in Yorkshire and it felt so comfortable and homely. Up to five feet of snow (150 cm) fell in Nova Scotia, last week , Sydney was hardest hit and yesterday it's snowed again ... up to 20 inches (50 cm )😳...but Anne with an E would have thought it magical......❄❄❄🤗❄❄

that series is Canadian!!!! i LOVED it!!! later there was a tv series called ''road to avonlea'' based on the story girl. it starred sarah polly!!! it was thge same vibe and also on CBC

My Aunt lived in PEI and I enjoyed a visit years ago to see her and experience Green Gables. It was all so lovely. Looking forward to subscribing to Seasons of Story😊📚
Absolutely cannot wait to look at your new subscription offer, the parts of Seasons of Story I have looked at have been exquisite and so interesting educational and inspiring so it is very exciting news. It sounds like superb value too (was expecting it would be far more) as even when at first thought I may have thought I could not afford it, broken down it is about a coffee and a half from a cafe, per month. I am absolutely sure I could skip 2 coffees a month (terrible habit anyway) in exchange for such a beautiful offer. My mother was a great Anne of Green Gables fan and named me after her. I inherited all her Harrap hardback copies of the series but it has been many years since I read them. Inspired by your book club choice for April I have just finished the first in the series and, like you, I am going to go on and read the rest of the series. Probably through the year and not by April though. It is so lovely to go back into Anne's world, I had forgotten how descriptive Montgomery is with her writing and Anne's habit of giving beautiful names to places. Thank you for getting me back to Avonlea.

Lovely as usual! I love your reading project through the Anne series, and I can't wait to hear more of your thoughts about it. I re-read Rainbow Valley for the first time in a long time recently and loved it so much. I love Lore Pemberton! I have a print I love with a young woman on the beach with her beach cottage up on the hill. Those Claudia Lowry cards are beautiful. My mom's favorite flower is the sweet pea so I'm always on the lookout for sweet pea cards for her for Mother's Day and her birthday.
Hi Miranda! I'm currently reading "Yoked With A Lamb," and I'm enjoying it. But I, too, noticed quite a few typos and incorrect words in my book as well. No pages have fallen out, though. 🙂
Lovely as always, to hear what you’ve been reading and enjoying. Will definitely be seeking out Rachel Grant’s work, and maybe time to re-read Little Boy Lost, which made a big impact on me when I first read it. The account of France in the immediate period post-war was fascinating and the emotional story so heart-wrenching. I found 10 o’Clock Scholars at Thrift Books and ordered it! I love Alison Uttley’s writing and can’t wait to read it. Thanks for the recommendation of the Miss Silver book, it’s one I haven’t read. And, yes, I have noticed that some of Patricia Wentworth’s female characters are spineless but do you think she is using them as foils for Miss Silver, who is so capable and independent? I have thought about that myself.

I dip in and out of it often and always find something I haven't read before. With so much going on and so many different platforms, I am interested to hear about how you manage to juggle that and structure your working day and work/life balance (athough I suspect that has been tricky of late!) - I would love to hear about that perhaps in a future video. I work mostly from home and have done since lockdown but I still struggle with this. I really love how passionate you are when talking about a book you have read. Another lovely vlog. I do love Little Boy Lost and agree that it's a powerful story about love lost and found. For some reason the little boys gloves stick in my head. Currently reading Nancy Mitford's The Pursuit of Love. Julie Andrews first memoir talks about the surviving the London Blitz in the beginning.
Some lovely recommendations and your Substack has definitely been a highlight of the week for me. Another artist I love who does lovely cosy scenes is Lucy Almey Bird, I would recommend checking out her prints and cards too ❤

I really enjoyed your Sunday vlog and I love the pretty ceramic Burleigh heart. I’ve recently finished reading Herald of Joy by Pamela Belle. After reading Wintercombe, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next and I loved both books.

Hi Miranda - it’s so wonderful to see that you’re back! I just finished Devil Land. It’s a really great, informal history that challenged me. I’m also almost finished with Patricia Brent, Spinster. What a great, fun, delightful book! I’ve also read Storm In The Village and have fallen in love with Miss Read! Lastly, I splurged (due to the pricey shipping costs - I live in the states) and bought a beautiful Emma Bridgewater mug that is on its way to me!

Beware, the Miss Silver mysteries can be addictive for those susceptible to the characters, settings, and rhythms of the Golden Age. The whole is more than the sum of the parts. Some of the plots are quite fantastic, bordering on melodrama, but she charms a reader into "the willing suspension of disbelief", for the sake of going along for a good ride. I appreciate your recommendation of Patricia Wentworth's books. I'll move Danger Point up on my TBR list.😊

I just picked up a book yesterday that, as soon as I saw it immediately knew was one you would definitely love. It's called My Wild Garden: Notes From A Writer's Eden by Meir Shalev. It's translated from Hebrew by Joanna Chen and has glorious garden/floral/nature illustrations by Rafaella Shir. It's published by Schocken Books, New York.
It even includes snippets of poetry. I could just stare at the cover alone for minutes on end.
I also have the “not seeing straight” quirk. I struggle with cutting straight, drawing a straight line, even parking straight. It’s frustrating!
So glad you made another video, Miranda! Looking so much forward to it every week. I love ‘the lost art of keeping secrets’ although I could’t find it in print, only as e-book. You always have the best recommendations. Looking forward to read Ann of Green Gables in April. Have you seen the serie ‘Road to Avonlea’? It is my favorite series of all time.
