    I grew up in a strongly Christian household and wasn’t allowed to listen to a lot of music growing up and this was the first band I ever saw that could loosely be called punk or alternative. And they started my love for emo/pop-punk. I will always love these dudes for that

      Same. I wasn't allowed to listen to rap or rock even if it was a Christian band. There was a girl in our youth group who pulled up the church listening to Thousand Foot Krutch and my dad heard it in the parking lot and told me I was never to hang out with her or talk to her outside of church.
      Unbeknownst to my dad I got a ride to a church event from her and she introduced me to family Force 5 and that was my first hooray into that kind of music. Thanks Jennifer!

    OH- weird fact: there's an unreleased Family Force 5 album that was recorded between Time Stand Still and the final EP. They did a whole tour (mostly of small church type venues) called something like "The Label Won't Let Us Release The Album So We're Gonna Play The Whole Thing Live For You Tour" or something like that.

    God, the hold this band had on me in middle school 😂 went to see them at this lovely little festival called Winter Jam that was kinda like a Christian warped tour lol no one ever knows who I'm talking about when I bring them up, so I'm happy to see you talk about them! Such a weird time 😂

    • @victoriawho2334
      @victoriawho2334 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Omg Winter Jam! Yessss!

    • @landonvincent7974
      @landonvincent7974 Před 2 měsíci +3

      Funny that you call it "little!" I remember it being touted as the "biggest tour in the world" some years ago. Apparently, according to Wikipedia, in 2011 they beat Bon Jovi, U2, Lady Gaga, Brad Paisley AND Justin Bieber in terms of attendance! And I think the fact that the tour survived COVID and is still going strong today is definitely a testament to how huge it has become. Were any of the people you mentioned it to Christian at any point? Because I'm pretty sure just about every Christian (or former Christian) not totally new to the faith and under the age of, like, 40 has at least heard of it. Just curious.

    • @theebogwitch
      @theebogwitch Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@landonvincent7974 oh yeah, it was huge. It doesn't translate well over text, but I meant "lovely little festival" in kind of a jokey way lol the arena it was in every year was basically completely full, so I definitely believe it outselling some bigger acts! I remember it being hell trying to walk around during intermission lol and I've had mixed answers when bringing it up to both Christians and non Christians alike, some know and some don't. I'm not part of the church anymore so that's probably why I've gotten more answers of people not knowing. One thing is for certain though, the majority of people I've brought FF5 up to have no idea who they are even though they were big enough at one point to be at Winter Jam 😅 might not be a Christian anymore but going to that festival every year was my introduction to live music and I'm hella appreciative for that.

  • @djboss302
    @djboss302 Před 3 měsíci +8

    Ik a few of their former members have side projects rn. Soul Glo has a project with his wife called Yacht Money. Chapstique has a couple projects called Brique a Braque (instrumental piano stuff) and an alt-rock/pop project called Club Danger. Might be worth checking out.
    As for the 2 remaining Olds Brothers, I don't know if they've done anything with music recently, but they're somewhat active on Instagram. I don't think NaDaddy has had any music projects since he left FF5 and seems to be "off the grid" for lack of a better term.
    But yeah, super cool to see you cover a band that helped me discover my love alternative music. Growing up in a Christian household, I wasn't allowed to listen to much, but FF5 was the first band with "harsh vocals" I was allowed to listen to, and that definitely helped me develop my current music taste and love for heavy music.

    Strangely enough, as a former Christian that grew up listening to southern-hip hop and pop-punk, their concept made immediate sense to me. Their style is very early 2000s Atlanta. Also, Jerome's music is reminiscent of southern soul. Southern soul is very region-specific. I'm from Alabama and it's commonly played on stations here. It's very 80s/synth sounding to this day.

    OH MAN im so happy this video showed up in my algorithm! I grew up in rural Iowa, and discovered them in high school in 2006 after a friend saw them at a Christian music festival and brought back a CD, and i LOVED Business Up Front Party In The Back!! I got really sucked in around 2008 when i finally got to see them live, and then became OBSESSED 😂 Like i bought a The Brothers CD off ebay once. Im actually impressed, you taught me a few things from this video that i didnt know! Lol. I fell off the FF5 train soon before Soul Glow left the band. This was so fun watching this video, and getting the perspective of someone trying to figure them out after the fact, as opposed to me, who had to try figure them out in real time haha! I think i saw them about 8 times live. Man what a trip this band was! Thanks for doing his video!!!

    I LOVED FF5 back in the day! All the songs are still bops!
    I remember I was so excited to see them at Warped Tour, but my friends & i got stuck in thr LONG line to buy tickets since we lost ours & FF5 was supposed to perform early & it kept getting later and later. A vendor came by to find helpers & asked "wanna get in for free? Just hang some posters for us."
    The vendor took us through the staff entrance and all that stood between FF5 & I performing RIGHT THERE was a rinky metal fence. My little 15 year old heart started singing & staring at Soul Glow for the 5 seconds I got to see them lmao.
    Then I tried their merch booth during the day, but it was just employees, not the band.
    I was tripled pissed when at the end of the night, the vendor asked if we wanted to stay for the after show bonfire, but we needed an adult & my friend's strict mom was the one picking us up, not my cool dad 🙄 another loss of meeting them lol
    Anyway "Dance or Die" is a scene kid masterpiece and I will never stop playing it 💕✨️

    These guys were frequently played on the Youth group playlist when I was a freshman in around 2013. Saw them live at the Rock and Worship roadshow. This was before I figured out who I was and what I believed but they're good.

      It’s wild seeing people who are being introduced to Family Force 5 in 2024 considering I saw them live when I was in high school.

    Eye love this band! Thanks for the deep dive. You didn't mention The Really Real Show. Oversight or not the focus of this?

    It was like listening to BOTDF, Dot Dot Curve and Brokensyde but danceable because you didn’t have to worry if the band members were pdf. Files

    My favorite band from 7th grade to 9th grade. Now mostly listen for nostalgia but Dance or Die is still a really solid album.

    i'm so jealous, i wish i was as unaffiliated with christianity as you are. what i wouldn't give to have to use google to learn about third day 😭
    when you played the walk on water clip my jaw dropped because i totally heard that song back then and it was the last thing i would've been expecting leading up to that point because that song is very of the time and was very mainstream in the scene of peppy christian music

    I love ready everyone’s personal stories of growing up listening to this band. I was raised Catholic so at 13 I was listening to NIN and Slayer. The more sacrilegious the better. I never heard about FF5 til college when a Christian Juggolette told me about them.
