- It's now general consensus that the referees made an error when it came to the 2-point conversion attempt from the Detroit Lions in their attempt to defeat the Dallas Cowboys, but Colin Cowherd says there's more to this story. While the Lions may have been robbed of a win, Dan Campbell's inability to adjust after the flag was thrown leads Colin to believe this team could have trouble in the playoffs. Plus, the Philadelphia Eagles blow a 15-point lead to lost to the Arizona Cardinals, and Colin asks the question: Have Jalen Hurts and the Eagles lost their identity?

Commentary and view points change with time, slavery used to be legal, educated people change their thoughts on that. With more information, intellectuals see that and take that into account on old points.
@@therealdoobs5655
No. This is called hindsight which is, as we all know 20/20. Easy to change your view points once you have the information. But Colin takes it farther and mixes it with hypocrisy as if we don't have the receipts of his prior view. That sir, is the benefit of having internet.

I'm not trusting the Lions in OT if the cowboys get the ball first.
Ceedee been burning them the whole game
You just drove down the field, on the road, and now you have a chance to win. Actual aggressive coaching for once. And if Goff throws a better ball, they get the 2pt anyway
Exactly. Apparently people are so short term these days they don't remember week 2 when Dan kicked to tie and then loss the coin flip and never saw the ball. He was crucified for not playing for the win. Now everyone's like "He should've kicked." Some people just love to sh*t on the Lions no matter the situation.
yeah, totally agree... i was disappointed at first that he didn't go for the kick after the first 2pt attempt failed, but in dallas, i think that was the best bet. would be a different story at home in det, i think they would have a better chance in overtime
As a Cowboys fan, I dont blame Dan for going for it. They always say, if you are on the road and have a chance to win it and not go into over time, go for it!
@@Lionize728 agreed! it's all hindsight 20/20 with arm chair coaches watching from home. The casuals do not understand how football is coached nor do they understand how history affects what you do in the future!
For what it's worth, Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta reportedly both exited the game limping. The Lions were underequipped to play in OT and Campbell didn't want to risk further injury to his players late in the season. That probably contributed a lot to why he still chose to go for 2.
Didn’t want to play in OT bc it would risk further injury? That’s weak. You don’t go for 2 there at the 10 yard line no matter which way you slice it, stupid call.
That is BS. There's no problem going to overtime. Campbell got emotional and refused to kick the extra point. That was his mistake. The call was bad but you have to move past it and not be emotional about it. He was. The hope for Lions fans is that he does not act that way during the playoffs
Exactly, and Detroit knew they did not need this game... they knew going in they could basically rest for 2 weeks and still get the 3 seed, or play all out and get... the 2 seed? Passing SF was not happening.
Thats exactly what happened and the casual fans of football do not understand that. We need our key pieces healthy for the playoffs and Sutton our CB was already playing hurt. He couldnt stop CD from catching anything. We wouldve lost in OT easily with Aubrey being able to kick from the parking lot.

"It was a great trick play. It tricked the refs!" 😂 🤣
😅😅
Colin saying that detroit and dallas can't win 2 playoff games doesn't even make sense since they will probably play each other in the divisional round. One of them has to win lmaooo
That's why the rigged NFL did that so they can say it was so close that it will be epic
Rams and Packers could both upset these teams in the playoffs
@@zack6701in the video Colin said he sees both of these teams being able to win one game but not two. In the event they both win… it would be impossible for one team to not win two. That’s the point. No one is saying gb or rams don’t have a shot
Both things are true; lions got hosed but after the second flag just kick the damn PAT
The Lions got caught cheating
WRONG! They did inform the refs. However their stupid acting coach will cost them in the long run. His stupid behind should have kicked the pat.
@@Leroy-wm4ib"Stupid acting coach" Way to parrot Colin. Only chance Lions had to win was to end it. The cowboys offense mostly Lamb was eating the Lions up which is ironic considering his name.
the "tripping"call that pushed the Cowboys 15 yards back, preventing them getting a first down and running out the clock before the Lions final TD is the REAL cheat by the refs
Yes. But no one is talking about that. Because it’s the Cowboys. If that situation happened to the Boys. All the analysts would say. Well Cowboys should of known the rules.
Hey man I need that St Brown TD and that 2 pt to fail. Probably the first time Vegas called favors for my benefit lmfao
You got your free win for jimmy stop complaining
@@cubeman6639 I'm not complaining. Here's a fact for your short circuit though; Someone/anyone on Detroit should have made a fuss when they heard the ref announce to the whole stadium #70 was the eligible receiver... IF they really meant for #68 to be announced and NOT just trying to trick the D. Why didn't Goff immediately go to the ref when he announced to the entire world that #70 was the eligible receiver? hmmmmmmm
@@cubeman6639lions lost, stop complaining
The NFL has proven not to be trustworthy with one's money. Missed calls are one thing, but when a prenotification was caught on camera and yet the brain-dead and "part-time" referee just ignored it anyway, well that was priceless. Folks should stop betting on these broken and/or predetermined games until this is corrected.
Look, the ref was confronted with THREE Lions players. Why? The only player that needed to be there was #68 to say hey ref I'm hot or I'm eligible. But he didn't. He acted like Mr. shy boy and laid back. Look at the film. #68 was very uncomfortable walking away from the ref. He looked like he knew he needed to say something. They were probably trying to create some deception, perhaps to any Cowboys that may have been watching only it backfired on them. The ref has no reason to lie. He, doing his job, ran over to the Cowboys defense and told them hey #70 just checked in hot (I think that was his number). Look at the film. 68 says nothing. The ref just has #70 in his face talking. He then has to hurry to tell the defense and notify the announcers booth so they can say it over the PA. If the cowboys knew about #68 they would have covered him. Coaching is part of the game and they F'd up. Cowboys win.
Thats why you bet with them not with your heart if you see the script its easy to win i hate dallas but i knew they wouldnt let them win
It really looks like Dan Campbell let his emotions get the best of him when the penalty hit. It is much much harder to get that 2 pt conversion from that larger distance. He didn't realize he should have trusted his team and got the one point.
he did it earlier in the game too. he is trying too hard to be a genius instead of a smart coach.
the second chance was from the 7. The offsides penalty brought it back to the 2 for the 3rd try. I have no problem with him going for the win. We're already in the playoffs with a home game.
Why play more football and risk injuries when you've already secured a playoff spot. For Campbell a win here was just cherry on top and that's totally a valid reason to go for 2
I respect a coach who goes for it but he tempted fate too many times. First 2pt attempt was iced, okay go for it a second time that's ballsy and I respect it. flag on the play lions threw to the guy who wasn't announced eligible by the refs 20 seconds earlier. going for it again on the 7 yard line is probably the dumbest call from any team all year.
Of course, let’s play another quarter and risk injuries when you solidified your playoff spot
This makes the most sense. Either way this is the lions identity. They aren’t gonna change it because talk show hosts disagree or because it makes fan uncomfortable
As a Lions fan I look at this game as a dress rehearsal. Prime time, in Dallas on JJ love fest night. Playoff atmosphere. Trial by fire in a relatively meaningless game. Lose and you play again next week. I have no problem with him going for the win three times. Every time he does that he tells his offense that he trusts them and the opposing teams that we are not afraid - and by the way, that play worked. This isn't the 0-16 Lions trying to get that first win. This is about trust and confidence. Mission accomplished.
He went for the conversion three times because he didn't trust his team in overtime.
The play worked because he was not eligible per what the refs announced so Dallas did not cover him. They covered the player that was announced as eligible.t He went for it on 4th in a low scoring game. He went for it multiple times and he just should have kicked. He is a liability at game management. Detroit is an easy first round exit. They might win a close one if they get a good WC matchup, but they are not going further than the divisional round.
I didn't know the number 2 seed and 2 home playoff games was meaningless, That being said if the tripping penalty was called correctly we all could have been saved from a stressful disastrous ending to that game
@@bojangles11111as bad as this sounds I got admit you're speaking truth , 2nd quarter he should of kicked FG and as for why he did that I have to refer back to what you eloquently said he himself blew that game that I know!
True. Yet and still the FORD CURSE continues.... FOREVER
3:10 The Lions tried to mask him reporting. Why send 2 players from the huddle and 1 player from the sideline to the Referee, if only 1 of them are reporting eligible???
What do you suggest, 68 go to openly announce that he's eligible so the Cowboys have a few more moments to figure it out? This is elite level sport, you do whatever you need to do, and push boundaries
@@LiamtotherescueYou do understand that the ref is required to go tell Dallas who just reported as eligible right? When a lineman reports as eligible, you’re not allowed to keep that secret from the defense. Thats why teams don’t really play games with players reporting as eligible. They make it clear.
@@robj2583 Yes I'm aware of that, but they still wouldn't have known the exact formation. By the time the ref has informed the defense, the offense will pretty much have lined up ready to snap. I know we're only talking maybe 3 or 4 extra seconds of preparation, but that might make all the difference needed.
When a new player reports the ref calls it out over the loudspeaker. The two players by the ref was already in the game. The player running on was the one that needed to be reporting. He didn’t. They even lined up wrong and had 2 flags thrown on them. Got caught. Even the Detroit coach in the press conference said two guys cannot report at the same time.
Lost in the ref goof was the fact that the Lions still went for two from seven yards out. There’s a fine line between aggressive and crazy and I think Dan Campbell crossed it
I think Dan Campbell was so angry about the penalty that he made a reckless decision.
@@StevenCarusone nah, he decided before the final drive that they were going for two no matter what. Only thing on the line for the lions was seeding, he wasn’t going to get guys hurt playing another quarter.
also earlier in the game when Dan went for it on 4th down instead of an easy field goal. no one mentioning that.
Derrick Barnes missed tackle for a safety that went for a 92 yard Dallas touchdown. Dan Campbell going for it on 4th instead of kicking a field goal the first half.
Or the fact that the tripping penalty called on Hendershot the drive before was called on the wrong team. Aiden Hutchinson did the tripping.
He said neither team can win 2, but if they both win 1, they are playing each other again in the NFC divisional round, so one of them has to win 2 lol...
No one talks about how the refs called tripping on the Cowboys when it was actually tripping on Hutchinson, game would've been over right there and no 2 pt attempt would've happened
“No one talks about it” is that why schefter tweeted about it? And many more people have talked about it.
If anything, the tripping is just another reason the refs needs to be held accountable.

I don't like this take. Focus on the issue. Ref is to blame for that loss 100%. McCarthy should have never left time on the clock. Cambell lost his mind and didn't play for OT. Coaches make mistakes and they don't get a second chance. Refs do with replays and overturning bad penalties.
It’s really hard to believe that this play they been drilling all week at practice, Campbell let the refs know pre game, the 2 olineman were literally talking to the ref, didn’t get reported as eligible.
The ref did this on purpose. Correct, Campbell told the ref about this EXACT play with 68. This is done ALL THE TIME prior to the game. Then 68 went over and told the ref he was eligible. Again, this is done all the time. Cannot convince me that ref didn't lie and throw the flag on purpose. 100% he had money on the game or something was going on.

THAT HAPPENS EVERY GAME. you tell them "hey we have these plays where we COULD have this guy be eligible, not 100% guaranteed you will run it. you ran 70 on the field repeatedly and he reported eligible throughout the game. why is he running toward the ref? why does decker need an escort to go tell the ref. it is Decker's job to get the ref's attention. if i go to tell my boss something and i don't get his attention then i go off without making sure that is communicated, that is on me. that is not on my boss. they announced 70 is reporting eligible, not 68. Decker should of immediately gone over and corrected the ref.
the refs didn't cost the Lions the game, Dan Campbell did. stop making excuses for a coach who repeatedly went for it on 4th down instead of kicking. even earlier in the game he has a chip shot field goal and instead went for it on 4th down and they failed. Dallas got moved back to 1st and 25 because of a tripping penalty that looks like with Hutchinson was trying to trip Hendershot or Pollard and they called it on Hendershot.
I think it was due to #70 reporting multiple times during the game, and the ref thought it was #70 reporting again, but he was the fake eligible to fool Dallas & hide #68. The ref blew it.
It's about the NFL working with the numbers in Lasvegas.
That heave out of bounds should have been intentional grounding loss of down and yards
I wish somebody would talk about a solution to this problem! Why not have the option to challenge Every call that a ref makes instead of only certain calls? It sucks to have a game outcome literally be chosen by a ref call and not the players!
Well said. You are Right.
There would have to have a limit to it. Games would last 5+ hours!
All penalties should be challengable
If they got that 2pt and won Colin would be out here like “Dan Campbell is coach of the year” 😂

The Tripping call hosed Dallas.

Preach Collin!!!
I like what was said in this video. Dan Campbell, you are not a fan, you are a coach.. Kick the extra point and go into overtime.
Just say the Lions were hosed. But you won't. Your license to be allowed to discuss the NFL requires you to be a good shill.😊
Dallas game management will haunt them but since they will now be 2 seed if they beat commanders we can pencil them in the nfc championship being they will get two home games before then
Why go to overtime if they lose the toss and Dallas scores it’s over
Campbell would’ve kicked a PAT if this was a playoff game.
Sean McVay has coached the Rams for 7 seasons now and has had coordinators (Off, Def,Special Teams) leave every single season and it doesn't seem to slow him down much. Seven seasons, 2 Super Bowl appearances, and one losing season.
The narrative has changed back again on the Eagles from Colin. Early on it was "They have an identity crisis" th3n when the played Dallas, Buffalo, KC, the 49ers and then Dallas again, it was "oh it was a tough schedule and they were tired" now it's back to the identity crisis. Seriously Colin needs to make his mind up 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I would be checking the officials bank account for any suspect large deposits after that rediculous call!

Wonder why he’s not a coach if he knows better then them 😂
Dallas can't run and coach doesn't understand clock management. Detroit has to rely on trick plays to win, 2pts and fake punt. Neither is going far in playoffs as you say.
Campbell should've kicked the PAT after the penalty that wasn't.
You tried. It didn't work, so the smart move was go to overtime, not try again from the 7
If he got a holding call, does he try the 2-points from the 12? A personal foul? Does he try from the 17? His ego got in the way of victory. He didn't put his team in position to win, but to lose.
he should have kicked a FG in the first half instead of going for it on 4th and goal from the 5 after losing 3 yards the first 3 downs. Then the extra point would have been moot as the lions would have the lead outright.
@@Calibrownsfan The whole game is played differently from that point on, so maybe not.

In this day and age, coached and players have to be perfect. Everyone knows the rules.
Yes the Ref messed it up. I don’t always agree with Colin Cowherd but when I do I say “good take”. I think you’re spot on. Cowboys can’t run it and kick a field goal? And Lions can’t kick a PAT?
If Jared Goff throws a good ball it’s a good 2 pointer
What does anyone do well? “Cowboys only play good at home. They’re about to play two at home in playoffs”
Gotta keep the plays in the spirit of the game, it's honestly corny they tried to trick the ref and succeeded.
No one saw the tripping call? Game should’ve never come to that
Sirianni needs to go. It’s obvious the coordinators were carrying him.
Dallas had to pass the ball because of the clipping call against them which wasn’t even committed by them
Sirianni has been getting worse with play calling and clock management. The coaching staff isn't getting the team on the same page. You have enough good players. You also have 11 wins, but you haven't looked good at all this year. More talent being wasted.
Murray is elite, he has no help around him n the pass game other than Trey McBride learning a brand new system coming off an acl and he still plays at a high level. People forget how good he is, he’s a top 5-8 somewhere between there.
Once Arizona stacks that roster with talent this offseason finishing the OL and getting him some WRs w/Michael Wilson who’s good going into yr2 Murray will be back in the mvp race next year making the Pro Bowl again and will have AZ in the playoffs. Dude is a special, special talent.
They didnt confuse the refs, the refs knew exactly what they were doing
Lol yall wasn't saying these eagles coaches was bad when the eagles was 10-1. I'm sure people said the eagles was the best football team in the nfl with these same coaches.
Wyk Collin Detroit played in a heated Dallas cowboys stadium 15-0 I'm impressed with the lions and the ending to come back an take that conversation was relentless that ending was horrible
It used to be protocol that the ref turned on his mike and declared the eligible. If a mistake was made it is on Campbell to correct it before the start of the play.
This was not laziness by the ref. It was Campbell's deliberate deception. What the Lions did was deliberate. You don't surround the official with three players to confuse him if only one is reporting. The other 2 players had no business approaching the official. The other issue is the official ( Protocol for years) is suppose TO TURN HIS MIKE ON and declare to the world who the reporting player is. Everyone knows and if the ref makes a mistake it is on Campbell to correct him. Cowboys defensive coach and head coach also have to right to know what is going on in case they want to change the defense. Detroit deceived both the official and the Dallas defense. Does anyone think the Dallas defense would just ignore the eligible receiver and leave him uncovered with a walk in touchdown. Pure corruption on Detroit. If the phony tripping penalty didn't cause Dallas to have a 1st and 25 instead of a 2nd and 3. This would have never been able to happen in the first place. In fact if Detroit who was guilty of tripping, the extra 15 yards for Dallas would guarantee Detroit would have no time left anyway. They would have never got the ball back. The Cowboys would have the ball 1st and 10 on the 14 yard line They could try to score a touchdown and be up by 2 scores or kick the field goal with only about 20 seconds left for Detroit with no time outs. NFL has to make sure officials follow protocol by announcing all eligible players on their mike to everyone period.
"You can't control the officials"??? Well then that's professional sports f'ed isn't it. Surely the most consistent thing should be implementation of the rules.
McLarky. I like that he has opened it up early in the game, long passes on 1st and 2nd down. But, he is just not a good spur of the moment decision maker. Now, if that pass is completed, we'd be praising him for being so aggressive. He could've win the game right there.
= Its like this; lets run the ball, same play like 3-4 times in a row needing one yard against one of the best defenses ever in Philly, turning it over on downs Thats BS...😆, you know who I mean.
What’s more embarrassing for the refs that there were multiple penalties on the 2 point play, as noted by the ESPN officiating guru during the broadcast. Unfortunately, the refs on the field didn’t call those penalties, but did call one that is questionable. Couple points of contention against the Lions on the penalty: the referee never announced 68 as an eligible receiver, which someone from Detroit should have clarified when he named the wrong player as eligible. So when the play occurs and an O-Lineman, who wasn’t declared as eligible by the head ref, catches a pass the other officials are going to through a flag. And again, even if the ref had called 68 as eligible, he wasn’t covered and it was still a 5 yard penalty for an illegal formation.
Nah. The formation was illegal/legal depending on who reported.
IF 68 reported instead of 70, the formation was legal.
But it’s not fair to just overturn the ruling because Dallas didn’t know 68 was an eligible either.
@@bigimportantman1544 No, the outside receiver (#8) needed to be on the LOS. He wasn't, leaving #68 uncovered, which is an illegal formation, regardless of whether the tackle reported or not. The rules analyst explained that during the broadcast. And all professional football players know this. And on the other side it looked like the slot receiver WAS on the LOS, but shouldn't have been. Another penalty.
Obviously you don’t know who Danny Campbell is. He sees 4th down as one last chance not to kick it away, he sees that 2pt conversion as a way to get that win, without having to lose it at a coin toss. Danny shouldn’t have had to kicked it in the first place if the refs got it right.
Cowherd… if both lions and cowboys win their 1st playoff game… then they will undoubtedly face each other in round 2 where 2 faces 3 seed. So if this happens one of these teams will see 2 playoff wins.
Of course you were confused, you have the wisdom of a 6 year old.
Good analysis on Eagles failing
I beg to differ about Campbell going for the win. NFL Research says that the team winning the coin toss in overtime has a decided advantage. 53% during the season, and a whopping 91% during the playoffs. Lose the toss, lose the game -and that's unacceptable to me especially if the other team gets to call it...I would rather go down fighting than lose to a coin. Who knows with these refs? They may be two-headed coins...

Very logical thought,BUT, do you honestly think that going into overtime would have resulted in a different result? I think not 😒!DC let the players know before hand what they intended to do. They knew the situation and probably would have been more disillusioned if they did not try to win the game.
Dallas to good? They allowed a 2pt conversion!
Colin is 100% about cows clock management. Lions take a FG and go to OT. Campell is too emotional. Refs F up and won’t own up. It does matter bc it changes game ending. We don’t want that!
Dans a coach, you’re a talking head. As a Lions fan, I’m good with the call to go for it.
I usually appreciate Your comments and analysis but If the D had known a 68 was supposed to be eligible he probably would have been covered and that play would have worked the same as the next 2
The last cowboys drive the goal shouldn't have been to score. it should've been to get 1 first down, and it's a 17-13 W.
Sports media is running out of excuses for the Philthadelphia Sheagles. And Cowboys nation is loving it. We somehow stumbled back a$$ward into leading the division. What a weekend.

There’s no perfect team in the NFC. Between detroit, Dallas and 49ers…one of them will be in the Super Bowl.
Unfortunately, both of these teams will have to get lucky to win a playoff game and neither stand a chance against the niners.
You said earlier you trusted the Lions and not the Cowboys. Which one is it?
It was also ILLEGAL FORMATION

We have a home playoff game for the first time in 30 years Dan making a veteran move without having been in that situation before gives me all the confidence.
such a bad take considering yes we should have kicked the field goal after the 2 failed 2pt conversions. but we ran a high percentage trick play that would win us the game and we did win the game. so yes, you can trust that detroit will have more trick plays up their sleeves come playoffs.
If Dallas and Detroit win their first game they play each other 2nd round
Pretty sure the Lions didn't actually care about winning that one and were fine with escaping with a W at best. Not worth going into OT and getting injured
