Good to see this man videos every once in a while straight up no bs I hope he’s doing well
Yes sir doing well.
Appreciate the blue collar man format. The technical videos are nice sometimes, but having a good ole boy talk truck is what I need sometimes. I made a video about the blazer and the zr2 model not having access to the rear glass actuator because there were no other videos about it. And I’m no mechanic lol but apparently it helped some folks out. Thanks dude
You da man. I was fortunate the broken exhaust stud fell out on the concrete when I took it apart. I used shorty headers with 5.4 liter ford stainless studs and cerrated nickel nuts to put it back together with oem gaskets. Never use aftermarket gaskets.
Great videos! Never read the comments section you’ll thank me later..you have relived my heart burn sir lol. I found out thanks to your vids it’s an….wait for it … EXAUST LEAK !! 🎊 💥 ..
Excellent brother
Kick ass upload 👊🏽
Sucks we couldn’t really hear the exhaust leak because you were talking over it. Other than that man, solid vid.
Yes. You help people stay rolling
That's the point
Pretty sure you just diagnosed my exhaust manifold leak. 🤟
Thankful for you going out of your way to help a brother out.
thank you, very helpful video, much appreciated
Thank you bro ur super easy to understand
Great over view ... I have an exhaust leak 🎉
Good job amigo 👍
Thanks for your video
Man. i got a 2001, 4.6 L 2v mustang GT. It ticks like this and goes away once I'm down the road for awhile. I figure if it was a rod knock it wouldn't go away. I guess it could be my lash adjusters/lifter. But I'm really leaning toward exhaust manifold.
Gettin closer to 1k subs buddy!
Yes sir. How are friend
@@autoguydiy4244 doin well...bought another 3rd gen for some parts. Guy wouldnt let me buy parts so i bought the truck. Rustiest 3rd gen ive ever had...going to take what i need and sell the truck. Good to see u makin videos again!
Some times you have to live alittle lol
Awesome you doing well buddy
have you tried lucas oil stabilizer or stp in the blue truck?
Phewwww. Mine's an exhaust leak. Ticks for maybe a minute after start up, but then goes away quick. Also throwing a cat code, but those cats have around 40k miles on them. Thanks for the vid. Wanted to be sure it wasn't a lifter tick.
Great information lover bear mwa 😘 ❤
That's what's up lover bear
My mustang gt is ticking and biggg loss of power throwing a control module code nvram i think idk what it could be :(
thanks for the update. mine is not a tick. 80k on the jeep v6.
water pump and pulleys replaced.
it's not a constant knock. it will come and go at idle but u don't notice it at driving speed.
i've never made a video but maybe can or put a audio of it.
Go for it. I will watch it
When I was a kid grampa use to stick penny in and taps it in with hammer
Damn I think you just confirmed for me that my 5.2 has an exhaust leak. Sounded just like yours and tick goes away once it warms up
I have a 5.7 hemi and it never ticks on a cold start, it’s intermittent and it’ll tick whenever it wants to, usually when it’s warmed to optimum temperature it’ll tick while driving. I’m driving it goes away for a while and then it’ll just come back out of no where. I have no idea what it could be. I’m thinking a lifter, camshaft, or valve spring.
Could be insignificant oil pressure or a dirty journey in the engine not letting proper oil circulation while driving. Most likely a lifter
do lifter ticks quiet down after the car warms up? I hear ticking up top from both sides of the engine. it takes a good 10 plus minutes of warming up before it disappears. Sounds more like metal clattering by the valve covers. i do have the CEL with the vsc, traction and anti skid lights on a lexus v8.
It's possible. What does your oil pressure gauge show
Sometimes the journey in the push rod get wore down on the top end. When the oil is cold it's a little thicker. Once it warms up and the oil thins down it passes through the journey and the tick goes away
I've checked my manifold screws and at least one of them is broken it sounds like your white truck, so I supposed that mi tick is an exhaust leak, but the difference is it never stops no matter if the truck is cold or not the tick is always present, do you recommend to start checking the lifters and tensioner or start with the manifold?
Yes I would start with manifold, but if the tick doesn't go away its a big possibility its the lifters
I already did my manifolds and replaced with headers. Now I'm having a noise on the passenger side from the valve area, not sure if its valvetrain or not. Kind kinda sounds clacky, only on passenger side. Getting a fresh oil change and adding marvel magic to rule out stuck valve.
What else do you think it might be? The only from one side thing has me confused.
Could be a broken or cracked valve spring
Pull your valve cover and check it out. If that is the case it could be catastrophic to continue to drive
Mines like a squeaking and ticking but if I get it to highway speed it calms down a little or when my truck start idling normal it stops because my truck is misfiring still can’t find the problem on the misfire
That could be the beginning of cam and lifter failure 🤔
Hey man i was wondering if theres any symptoms of rod knock that come with it. For example noticeable power loss, engine running hotter than usual etc?
Ive got a knock in my engine and i cant tell what it is. Ive got a video of it and its pretty loud
Yes it would present those issues sir
@@autoguydiy4244 thanks man I haven't got any of those along with the knock. By chance you can give me any ideas on what the knock can be given the fact that everything else seems fine?
@@jovo21I have a ticking noise that doesn't go away when hot and severrrrr engine loss especially at take off your lucky lol
I have more of a rattle on cold starts on my single cab 02 4.7. Had it for a like 2 months now doesn't seem to affect no check engine. Sounds like it's on the bottom. What do you think?
That sounds like a cracked of broken flywheel. Does it make any funny sounds when it starts
Just a rattle then it stops and run good. Had another guy say ot was a rod but I was think timing chain
Itr could be the timing chain tensioner slack. Is it coming from the front or back of engine
@@autoguydiy4244 sounds like the front
We just started getting this ticking/rattling.onlt happens after the truck is warm, never at a idle.seems to be after about 15-20 mph. Took it in. They did what they call a preferred oil change and clean the injectors and something on the exhaust that was rusted through. They said it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what to think, I was thinking it had something to do with the the rimming chain but I don't onow
That sure sounds like a timing chain tensioner issue
@@autoguydiy4244 that's what I thought. They found something loose on the exhaust, and did some sort of preferred oil change. Seems to have fixed it.
My 04 3.7 Dakota has a noise. It’s like a tick and knock it’s pretty loud. Sometimes there all the time, sometimes I can’t hear it. I replaced my passenger lifter last September and then just did the driver side ones a day ago. Noise is still there. Was told by a few people including an ex dodge tech that isn’t not a rod knock. It’s got 263k miles. I don’t know what else it would be because it doesn’t got away when warm. It’s just sometimes not there.
Might be a cracked flywheel/ flexplate
How much did they charge to you replace lifter
1700
Had a new blueprint 400 stroked put into my 81 trans am, just recently changed the oil cause my break in fluid ran low and thought the tick at idle along with RPM would go away. Hoping it’s not a lifter tick, does tick at warm up and along with the idle while driving especially when at slow speed, a good mechanic I know did look at it and says it’s an exhaust leak from the headers but did kind of get worse overtime and getting it fixed soon.
Noise comes from the passenger side of the valve, started out very mild and did get bit constant overtime
That sounds like lifter tick. If it's an exhaust leak then you would have to have cracked manifold or ruined gasket
Does the noise get louder with higher rpm
@@autoguydiy4244 not really, hard to tell but I do know I lost some sound from the rear exhaust as I accelerate, as if it lost some sound from the rear as it’s being suppressed while accelerating
@@apexant3417 have you checked for a stopped up catalytic converter
Unless it’s a jeep 4.0 where the lifters and the connecting bearings are next to each other
Yo quick question when u unplug the injector on the cylinder u think has rod knock will it go away I un plug the coil pack sound still there unplug the injector sound goes away is the injector the isssue this is on a bmw GDI engine
Definitely an injector issue
Fingers crossed hope so injector coming in 2 days thank u for the responce 🤙
You may not be knocking anyone sir… but your crank shaft - IS.
Mine is doing some tapping under the truck when it first starts up sometimes you hear it loud and it gets quieter or sometimes you can’t hear it and then you can hear it. I can send a video of it but I just don’t know what it is and I’m not getting any codes on the truck
When it does warm up it’s not as loud as when it first started but it’s still there
Send a video autoguydiy2022@gmail.com
Great video I subscribed ! Does a lifter tick go away? Or it stays constantly even if car is warmed up ?
A lifter tick will Stay there always.
Thank u very much
Does a rod knock go away after car warms up or is it constant knock ?
@@STEELERSL79 it may quiet alittle but never go away
If it’s the timing chain does it have a little rattle to it?
Yes it would
I think I have a lifter tick I’m not sure. It ticks from the top. Is it dangerous to drive?
Go easy on it and listen to see if it get worse. Besides that drive it
See I have a 2004 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi with 120k miles original owner always ran synthetic oil since day one
But Thursday I was driving into work and lost some of the power and sounded like a bad header leak when I gave it gas I'm getting a knocking sound from the top center of my motor every 5 Seconds. It's not a rapid knock but it sounds like it's coming right in front of the throttle body like somebody's hitting the plastic top right the Center and when I give it gas it doesn't increase the knocking either. Also lost some of Heating in the truck thermostat dropped a little but oil pressure is great zero lost in antifreeze and can't figure out what it is. Any kind of help would be great. Thanks
I would pull a valve cover and check the valve springs
Being that it's an 04 it does not have the mds on it. That's what leads me to believe a bad valve spring or possibly weak. Cam and lifter failure on the non mds hemi is not very common. In 06 is when they started using the mds. Well I hope this helps buddy
About 2 years ago I broke a roller and had to replace the back passenger side four rollers thank God did no damage to the camshaft. But thank you so much for getting back to me I really appreciate it brother God bless and always stay healthy and safe 🙏 🇺🇸
You to buddy. Did you replace any valve springs
I broke 3 springs on my truck around 190,000
Do you think you/I should replace the exhaust manifold ?
If your going to do that I would get shorty header, but as long as there not to warped the go with no need in spending extra cash.
Will a lifter ticking also cause a miss fire? Ive replaced the coils plugs and injectors truck went from running at 65% to 85-90% any extra help would be awesome i have the smaller block 4.7
Yes. You might have cam and lifter failure. Do you still have the misfire
I'll go run my scanner real quick fam thank you so much for the help inherited the truck from my uncle when he past
@anthonyfrizzell2316 yes sir. Let's go team #moparfam
P0308 code scanner and app say to replace my camshaft sensor?
Other code is for my TCM? Not sure what's wrong there shifts fine
2011 5.7
Mine ticks on the drivers side on startup then quiets down. But when I go to drive it it ticks. Crazy part is I’ll pop it in park or neutral and rev it and it won’t tick at all!
Exhaust Leak. It must be pretty bad. It's just taking the Exhaust manifold alittle longer to expand and reseal. When you Rev it up the Exhaust manifold heats up rapidly. My truck does the same thing
@@autoguydiy4244 yea.. I also smell a bit of gas coming from the wheel well so that right there told me
does lifter tick sound similar to the injector noise(sewing machine) or to the exhaust leak ticking on your white truck?
It depends on how bad it is. Most of the time it will start out like an injector noise slight tick. Dies the tick get louder if you idle it up
@@autoguydiy4244 I don't think it gets louder,I think it gets faster with throttle.
That's most likely a lifter tick. Get a stethoscope if uncertain
@@autoguydiy4244 that would suck,I just had the engine rebuilt like 3 years ago,5.7 hemi to a 392 stroker.
That would suck big dog. Just drive it and listen closely to if it get worse. Besides that it's not the end of the world. Every car on the road has its problems even new ones
Bro my noise use to go away but it’s a lot worse now my heat shield fell off I have a miss fire on bank one should I drop it off at a shop
Yes sir. If it's getting worse something is coming apart in the engine fast
Man when I first crank my truck it ticks like it’s the lifters but after like a minute or when the trucks is warm it goes away
Exhaust Leak
If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid.
I think 2 of my rams have broken exhaust manifold bolts lol. The salt is hard on shit up here. Your so lucky no rust down there if jts not by the ocean
True statement buddy
@@autoguydiy4244 have u seen my new vids bud?
Its not that the rigged repairs don't work, its not what the book says to do, that's the difference. I cut up pennies and cram them in instead of screws myself.
Can a rod knock go away after warm up ?
Cause I got a 2019 and like 5 mins after cold start I hear a tapping noise but after driving for 10-15 mins tapping goes away
If it goes away after 10 to 15 mins after driving. My friend that an exhaust leak
A rod knock may get less noticeable after warm up but would never go away big dog
jonah jameson if he became a mechanic
That's a first
I think the issue is if you pay a mechanic to fix something and they put a screw in it, DIY all day but for a mechanic you pay good money for ya know
wat
All I'm trying to say is don't tell me my methods are wrong. Alot of guys are on here looking for good genuine tips to save some cash. Times are tough. At this point not many want to spend 3 to 4 hundred dollar. Shit maybe they don't have it
I have a question, you reply ?
What up big dog. If I have an answer I will give it to you big dog

I’m currently about to take off the valve cover & check the rocker arms. But i wanted a final answer from you
What's up buddy
@@autoguydiy4244 wassup ! You saw the vid ?
A screw in a terminal is a band aid that's why its wrong, But the fact is we don't have unlimited money like they think so i cant replace an engine every day i feel like it, nor can i fix evey little thing going on on my truck. Im coming up on 400k miles, you best belive im right there with ya if i got a loose terminal, im going to my leaky rear tire, pulling the screw in the tred out and putting it in my terminal and calling it a day. Then i can use my 6 year old plug kit and pop the 10th plugin that 12 year old tire.
I think them injectors have me paranoid 😅
Just take it easy big dog. Lol 😆

@@myhoodiskc that is a sweet ride brother

I can't hear shit. You talked over it.
Then listen a little closer
Good info bro. But what if the tick comes half way through warming up, then upon revving it it goes faster, then it goes away fast as well. I really appreciate it bro. Stay safe
Sound like a lifter is loosing pressure. Once you Rev it up the pressure returns tick goes away. Check exhaust system really well for any major leaks. Exhaust leaks are very deceiving when it comes to diagnosing a tick
Thank u so much bro. Great content. I appreciate it a lot
