  • Stone shore fishing: Are these small hooks the best way to catch more fish? It’s another mashup episode from the Totally Awesome film library. First Graeme heads off for a spot of shore fishing trying to catch the elusive Red Mullet. He uses an unusual small hook that is well worth a look at. Then he recalls a winter session making a project for Mike using free bits of pallet wood (Is there nothing he won't try making?) Finally, on a freezing, sub zero day he decided to revamp his pots and troughs ready to take his summer project of planting.. it certainly looks cold but our man is always out there trying!

    I just joined after watching you and your son that hung the little round house for your granddaughter. She is a lucky little girl to have such a wonderful dad and granddad like you two. Love all your videos with your son. I'm sure I'll love these too, and now I have another good series to watch. 🫖🦀🦞🎣💖

    I know the garden bit was a while ago, but my thought is the grouting between your patio slabs get water in them, freeze/expand, thaw, etc which will make them cracked and brittle and allow even more water, freezing, etc...
    Have you tried a waterproof sealant after refreshing them?
    Also, I believe you could grow vegetables in you planters and replace them with flowers after harvest?
    Tough luck with the red mullets...
    Another good vid; always look forward to them!

    Nice filming of the various boats around Portsmouth Harbour. Great tips on the fishing and you didn't blank. There must be some sublime message to speeding up the hammering and slowing it down. ( My secondary education has not helped me suss that out yet). Great tips on the pots never stood them off the ground, still a few to plant out so will try it with the few. What a bloody awful few weeks of rain, noticed after no rain for nearly six weeks it just has not stopped, rain every day so far for May. Its not a case of watering runner beans its stopping them swimming off! The weed this year are a lot worse as well. As always thanks for posting.

    • @TAFishing

      The weeds love the rain...it's been dire,I don't think I have known a May like it. Been flat out ripping a property up on a refurb so just crashing out at night so tired...no fishing listed in the diary with this weather. I wanted some fly fishing but seems no natural insects about...who can blame them..but with this weather I just want the bathroom fitted out,the plumber and electrician to turn up at the same time and the wind to go down...is that asking too much?? and maybe the 3rd booster jab coming early as well.

    You can catch a fish on a very small hook/ low strength line and disproportionate sized bait np. Doesn't appeal to me. Great content as always 👍

  • @DjDolHaus86
    @DjDolHaus86 Před 3 lety

    Those gripz hooks are a gimmick, if the hook is under tension then the ridges are nowhere near the flesh and if the line is slack (ie. where a barb would prevent a hook backing out) then there is no pressure to make the ridges grip. Made to catch anglers.
    The curve shank design is a solid enough shape of hook though, they're meant for carp fishing and to be used with a knotless knot (hair rig). With the line exiting the front of the eye the curved shank forces the hook to turn into a prone position as the line tightens against a bolt rig.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the definitive comment. I have used them a few times now, along with Kamasan and the old Partridge Carp hooks(I still have a few of the latter after 40+ years) and they all seem to catch fish. But I do like wide gape hooks.

    If the slabs had been laid on a screeded bed of sand you would not have that problem. When the slabs have been laid on dots on each corner and in the middle it creates voids under them.

    Hey guys, I am travelling to TCI (Turks and Caicos) soon. I want to try ocean fishing (I have been fishing since I was a kid but mainly lakes, ponds and rivers - small fish). I bought a travel spin rod (15-40 g from Savage Gear - it's a freshwater rod), do you think it would work with 20g (3-5" lure) soft plastics in flats? Also, I was planning to buy a Daiwa Seahunter Z Travel Boat Rod 30-50lb or DAM Salt-X Travel Boat Rod 300-600g cw . I might only go for one or two boat trips whilst I am there, so most of fishing I will be doing will be probably from the beach or rocks. My questions: 1. What line and lure weight can I use with both rods (The Daiwa doesn't mention CW, only LB rating). 2. Can I use it from beach/rocks or only boat? 3. What fish can I target with these boat rods and on what line :) It's hard to find specific answers out there. It has to be 4-5pcs so I can take it on board. Many thanks,
