Always nice to see a huge bike get paired up with its intended pilot! Also, you had me waxing nostalgic about the set of Paselas I had on an early aluminum Trek road bike a few years back. They were pretty awesome. And they come in a 24" size that was the finishing touch on a Terry Symmetry I recently refurbished.
another option for getting extra height would be one of those threadless steerer extenders. basically a tube with a pair of pinch bolts at the bottom, and a 1-1/8" OD on the top to give you an extra 3" or so. it looks funky, but it's a dirt cheap way to get extra height and still be able to use a dime-a-dozen threadless stem.
