Today the @GrindHardPlumbingCo boys came to the shop to assess their Humvee that broke down and Vegas and we picked up. They have a long drive ahead of them and we have alot of work to do. Will it make it back home to their neck of the woods in Idaho? Check it out!

HMMWV transfer case is separate from the transmission. Fluids are not supposed to intermix. There is a cooler loop inside of the transfer case that is fed transmission fluid to help keep it cool.

yes and then the tcase chain gets sloppy and you end up with the vampire.
As a recipient of 3 spinal surgeries from the need to "be tough" in my youth, it's always wise to listen to your elders, Landon. Protect your back! Rebuilding it never makes you better than stock.
I was that same kid, lol. No surgeries yet but no feeling in my feet and plenty of nerve pains
And we all think oh that will never happen to me because I'm good but you're right it does happen and before you even know it too!
Every little or I should say every injury no matter how minor or major it might be when young or old adds up overtime ! I know from experience now that I'm 69 !
Not to beat this horse, but listen to these guys Landon. I’m 47 with three wrecked disks in my lower back along with nerve pain in my leg that won’t let me sleep a lot of nights. Take care of your back now, because there’s nothing that can be done to make it better. And watch out on your knees also… that’s another challenge. You can’t hunt elk if you can’t walk, ‘nuf said.

I agree with everyone who's telling you take care of yourself now. I worked in sawmill when I was 13 offbearing 8" cross ties and when I was 18 I started as a laborer in stone mills . By time I hit 40 I was done my back couldn't handle it anymore!!

Shaun is absolutely right, though, if he's not careful he's going to absolutely screw his back up by trying that. He's got that young man durability at the moment, but that will pass soon enough.

Out of all the vehicles I drove when I was in the Army, the HMMWV was my favorite vehicle to drive. The other one was the PLS by Oshkosh
I think Grampa Sherm looks down and smiles at his old truck and what you transformed it into. Gotta say that Hummer sure surprised me climbing that hill. Those fellas sure were energetic. Sure miss those days. Great video.

That Hummer continuing up that hill from a stop was crazy. Maybe because there is no pumpkin digging into the sand and it also being heavy enough to get the widest patch possible when aired down

I miss driving those things. Slow climber but it will climb it all. Obviously the width and height doesn’t help it much but I never got one stuck. Carried me around Iraq safely in 04.

I still think that we need an episode of Fab Rats x Grindhard building Graydon a mini rock crawler kinda like their power wheels, only probably lower powered for now. Maybe a HF Predator engine or something.

Super video. Shop talk over my head but it made sense after the rigs went to the trail. "Sand crawling" and slowest hill climb ever was hilarious. Great editing and music bed was awesome. Good, no, excellent work guys. You cook!

Hummers are cool, the FJ is super cool, but that tow truck is the freaking coolest
The red candy is RTV. When it gets hot and mixes with transfer case fluid it becomes hard. The only reason I know is because I’ve worked on these and the operators beat these things like a cabin screen door. So when changing the trans or transfer case they will cake RTV in there for whatever reason.

Good morning this was a fun video I didn't think that Humvee would have made it up the sand hill I was definitely impressed
I love it Sean and Landon mounting the tires for the HUMVEE. Fab Rats learned some things working with this vehicle. The Rat rod has no problem taking on that sand hill it just eats it up! Hunter and Paul were laughing when they made it to the top! Grandma Lolly and the fur baby made a guest appearance.

Is this a piece of candy ? Goes to taste it. It’s kinda sweet ! I was dying laughing. It’s a red anaerobic sealant we use to seal the tcase and transmission together. Good stuff. However anymore we just use gasket maker because the anaerobic sealant is too expensive for the government to purchase 😂. Love watching y’all do this. I have changed so many hmmwv transmissions (especially the 4l80’s) and t cases.

That red substance is an anerobic gasket maker. Its used as a gasket between 2 machined surfaces rather than a paper gasket.
Hope they don't get away with closing the trail. What they do here in Washington is you drive the trails all year and when you come back the next year the trails have gates and ditches. They sneak it in when no one is watching and of course the media helps by ignoring the story. Its amazing how much planning and (our) money goes into sneaking in these closures, whereas you never see them spend any of our money on improvements. Join the Blue ribbon coalition!!

I'm 40 and have had 2 spine surgeries definitely take care of yourself. You could always get a auto immune condition. It might not even be your fault. 😅
Might want see a chiropractor, I have lifted close to a million boxes, cider blocks, car batteries in my lifetime... And even had a car fall on my back when I was 18...It really helps..👍

I had a friend in the 7th & 8th Grades in school (we didn’t have Middle Schools in the middle 1960s) & he rode a Unicycle to & from school regularly. He was very good at it too.
So, not sure why they put the t-case cooler in the fender well…..? Pretty sure it is going to be full of sand/mud pretty soon…

People dog on the HMMWV'S, but they really are a pretty incredible design! The engine, Transmission, and T-case are at all the greatest! An LS engine swap, and upgraed drivetrain would make it incredible! I was a 3521 in the Marines, and know them front to back!
Landon's a good guy for letting Sean drive the Yota there, and he's also a lot of help there in the garage nowadays,👍, I had him pegged for being a spoiled-brat for sure, but I don't mind being wrong about stuff like that tho,✌😉, great video guys, and thanks for sharing.

That transfer case cooler behind the tire will clog with mud and what ever else the tire throws. Also the tire will pick up a stone and destroy the cooler. Either case it will in turn destroy your t/case.
That wrecker is such an awesome Beast. That roar up that hill was as good a sounding scream as I can ever remember!

Great collaboration
The hole in the right rear of the trans is for lube to the the slip yoke in a two wheel drive trans. The is a small plug 9/16” that goes in the hole. If you put the trans in a 4th you put a freeze plug in the hole.
Fab Rats needs to either hire a transmission tech or send Landon to school to build transmissions. Seems to be Fab Rats cryptonite.
That T-case (based on an Army Mechanic that worked on them) said the rear seal on them was a constant problem.... had to replace them often
