Gregory Hines remarked that there will never be a biopic created for these two men due to the fact that no one could recreate their dance moves. I'm an Internet Dance Routine Troll, and have never come across any dance routine that is anything remotely like this one. Too high on the bars of technicality, timing and coordination, conditioning, and straight-up fearlessness on the part of the Nicholas Brothers. Cannot be duplicated. After seeing this I read up on them. Truly amazing. This scene was totally improvised and with no rehearsals. The studio actually put up a grandstand so people could come in and watch this scene be filmed. Amazing is the only word that fits
I doubt it was improvised with no rehearsal. that kind of dancing requires at least choreography and a couple of run-thrus for camera, if nothing else. They may very possibly have gone through it in one take, though

To think that people think of Michael Jackson as the epitome of a great dancer. I enjoyed watching Jackson's moves, but he had nothing compared to these guys.
I'd say it's more about dedication than natural talent. Back then there was no internet, no games or even television eg. Less things to "distract" you. So I guess once people picked a profession or career back then, they probably devoted their whole time and lives to it, because if you didn't then there's not much else to do. Unlike today where you have all these "distractions" like the ones I mentioned competing for your time. You can tell with the singers and dancers of the time, how much practice they put into their performances to be able to pull it off so flawlessly.
