ESC 2016 Top 42 Ranking With Comments

- Re-uploading due to a change in my opinion (Shock! Horror!). As I've said before, this year is one of the best ever and there is so little to choose between any of the songs in my top 20. Am hoping this is my FINAL ranking but forgive me if I end up revising it again in the future.
This is my aftershow ranking for the entries of the Eurovision song contest 2016 (based on final performance), along with a brief thought about each of the songs.
Please leave comments below about what you agree with or where you think I am wrong but remember, these are my shorthand notes on the songs!

Finally someone who doesn’t underrate Italy!
It is a shame that when everyone talks about how good Italy have been since 2015, this gets left out. I think it might actually be my favourite of their entries during that time!

Eek. I haven't been checking my videos that much during the Eurovision season (I kinda switch off for some reason).
Glad you went back and looked at this year as it's one of the strongest contests for me. I guess, "Say Yay!" is a different kind of winner than I usually have...but hey, I really do like all different music genres if I think they're done right. 😂
can't believe u called 1944 a 'decent winner' :( its 100% without a doubt my favourite eurovision winner of all time. its not something id listen to but its just so so so so good
Actually, it's really rare for the actual winner of ESC to be close to the top ten in my rankings. So by "decent" I mean that. 1944 is actually in my top five of winners since 2000. 😂

I know how you feel about Rykka, though. That song was seriously torn down JUST BECAUSE of that choreography.
Remember that Rykka's was one of the songs that made it onto my MP3 player that year. It was decent!

Interesting list though, especially towards the top. I think Norway in particular would've been much more noticed in a different year (in a year as weak as 2017 or 2018 they probably could've been Top 10 at least)
Oh...I rank it even lower now. I absolutely hate it.
The Norway entry divides opinion so I'm starting to understand it missing out a bit now. 2017 is one of my favourite years though and in that year, Verona missed out, so I don't think that would've helped Icebreaker.

Definitely one of the best performances. Her song was in the late 20s for me before the show so definitely appreciate it more now.

Some I liked were higher though like Hungary, Latvia, Russia, Australia, Bulgaria and Spain

Germany's national final was REALLY good this year. Was surprised you ended up with that as your entry...
2016 for me had 3 different options to be a winner but no ten out of ten songs. There was also only one truly bad song the entire year. You are right about 2016 being one of Eurovision's best years. (I also feel really guilty for Russia being my winner that year, lol. Solidarity to Ukraine)
I think that's fair. Lots of strong songs but probably no all-time greats in this edition.
Tbf...the Russian entry is really strong. No harm in having it as your winner and it was a pretty big favourite to win in the odds, even going into the final!

I gave my personal votes to the ESF eurovision songs performed in the Grand Final Show. Very disappointed that Iceland - Greta Salóme - Hear them calling > wasn't chosen for performing her song in the Grand Final Show. Then i gave Iceland - Greta Salóme - Hear them calling - 10 points after my 12 points for Lithuania - Donny Montell - I've been waiting for this night.
Spain is my definite winner now but there was a time that I had Lithuania in first place. It was a REALLY strong Eurovision year for me. I liked a lot of the songs. 😂

Excuse me, but what's terrible about the text of Slovenia? Or do you think that Australia, which rhymes "silence" with "silence" and Russia with a cliche in the form of "unforgettable, so unbelievable" is better?
My personally top5: Armenia, Bulgaria, Russia, Hungary and Ukraine

PS. I agree about Dami Im needing a better song. I liked her voice but I thought the song was pants.
It's a great year. I'm sure I underrated a lot of songs that people really like.
