Sky One - Noel's HQ - Noel Edmonds speaks with passion.

  • From 2009-02-07. Noel Edmonds speaking on his Sky One show, Noel's HQ about the case of a former soldier who had been denied planing permission to build a bungalow.
This show was live but when it was repeated the following day on Sky Two this segmant was edited quite a bit (see my other video for the Sky Two version). I expect in this form the video breaks certain Ofcom codes as Noel Edmonds is suggesting how people should vote in any upcoming elections. Its also quite a personal attack and the person working for the council was not given a right to reply (although the council itself was in the form of the statement read by Keith Chegwin).
I have put this video under CZcams's 'entertainment' category. I hope Noel doesn't mind. It is also listed under entertainment on Sky's EPG.
Context is everything so these articles may be suitable further reading material if you are interested in the story being discussed...

Van den Bos is just a lowly Press Officer, as in a communicator of information. He didn't make a decision for planning permission ffs 😂
It tickles me that a civil servant may have gone home one night and settled down in front of the TV, only to see Noel Edmonds mention him by name and say he wants to "fight" "people like him".
It's also pleasing to know that Jim van den Bos still works for Wealdon District Council in the same role.

The drama is that Joe Townsend lost both his legs whilst serving us abroad, and came home to find his local council acted without any compassion and, narrowly, decided not to allow him some independence in his rehabilitation. Noel Edmonds might be light entertainment pap, often at its worst, but in this case he is standing up for one horrifically injured man who wants to be cared for by his family. He's helped give Joe a voice, and for that he should be commended.

I actually agreed with the planning decision on this. They would have had to take a year to build a house on the nice green field. In that time they could have moved to a different house with a bungalow next door.
Just because you've had your legs off in service of the country shouldn't give you the right to ride roughshod over the planning rules.
If the council had barred him from making his house wheelchair friendly, they would have been fair game

Making light of a man who has served his country, who is now disabled due to this service, who simply wished to build an adapted building next to his grandparents house. The Council were invited to take part in this programme but declined to do so. I can totally understand Mr Edmonds anger.

I disagree with what Jeffrey44 has written about the Council not being given an opportunity to respond to Noel's outburst. The Council and the person involved were given an opportuinty to come on the show and REFUSED! Also, I think everyone missed the point of what Noel was trying to achieve - a soldiers right to live in a home suitable for his needs. A soldier who was injured in the line of duty. And it was this Council and the Press Officer who denied the soldiers right to build this home.

I heard about this and expected it to be the insincere, ego-inflating charade that a lot of people seem to think it is. However, he does genuinely seem symapthetic to this soldier's cause, which I'm sure most people would if the council have treated him as shabbily as reported. I mean, Whatever happened to 'Homes fit for Heroes'?
