I bet he was proud when he seen the way the BVM was packaged
Hehe yup I learned the pool noodle trick from Steve. It seems to have helped tremendously since the boxes didn't hold up very well.
Glad to finally see the unboxing Steve. Pool noodle trick definitely helped 👌. Although it obviously ended up surviving I still wish I could have done the extra box around the outside. I'm excited to see the rest of your journey through fixing up this little gem of a monitor, I knew I made the right choice passing it on to you.
Yes It has finally been resurrected to its prior glory. Should have the restoration video ready soon. Thanks again!
Oh you actually got the 4:3 frame. I've had 3 of these BVMD14's and every one of them had the 16:9 frame. I think they came with that 16:9 frame by default, the 4:3 one being sold separately as an option by Sony.
Yeah it was a mixed bag with the bezels. I have seen many come with either bezel. I've got the widescreen bezel too, but to me it's kind of pointless if you have the 4:3
Great choice from the Sonic CD game Steve. I love that game and it's one of my favorites in the Sonic series bro. 8^)
Anthony..
Thanks bro
This is outstanding
I had an option to get one but i leave it because of old tube. Its hard to get working one with less than 50.000 hours on it, still some sellers advertise it as 'only' 50.000 xD
Yeah, they generally were swapped between 30,000 to 40,000 hours. This one was pushed to the limit.
Would this be a good tube to test out one of those rejuvenation devices on? I know they work on shadow mask tubes, but would they work on a Trinitron/bvm?
Yeah it would be, but unfortunately there are only 3 models of Rejuvenators that will work on these Trinitron tubes. I don't own one yet because they still sell for between $400 - $500.
@@RetroTechUSA Old tech just keeps getting harder & harder to get. Even working VCRs seem to keep creeping up in price.
Before you go with a rejuvenator I would check the DC output on the RGB transistors on the neck board. It could be something as simple as that compare the DC output voltages from each RGB transistor. Even though its dim and missing red, did it change at all when you started modifying the red gain and bias drives? Usually a Trinitron tube likes to oversaturate on a weak crt and if red is weak, turning chroma up will cause significant smearing of colors to the right.
@@RetroTechUSA Hi Steve. What are the 3 models of Rejuvenators that work with Trinitron tubes? I have a couple of B&K Rejuvenators, 467 and the 490.
@@RetroTechUSA Curious if you keep those old tubes just in case some day you get a Rejuvenator?
What’s your opinion on the BVM D14H1U monitor?
What is the name of the last game being shown? Thank's in advance. Awesome video by the way.
Actually just Sonic 2 on genesis with a track from sonic CD dubbed for audio.
This is retro pron. Thanks.
D-series isn't one of those "digital CRT"? That with digital image processing and lag?
I would love to buy a bvm or pvm from you. I live in sc so can come pick it up. Please let me know if you have anything. Love the channel and can you do more consumer crt tvs
He recently listed a pvm on ebay. There's still time to put in a bid if you want, last I checked it was at $305. He did a video about the auction a few days ago.
Thanks. rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575378759&campid=5338273189&customid=&icep_item=264556201886&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&toolid=11111
Thank you do you have any broken good project pvm or bvm. You would like to sale. Also thank you for doing how to videos. Learned alot from you.
I have a BVM with 90k hours on it, looks great. Should I be worried?
If it looks good, then most likely the tube was changed at some point, but the hours weren't reset. Or it could have gotten a recharge from a Rejuvenatot.
@@RetroTechUSA It had to be changed. Sony recommended changing the tube after 30 000. At the mark, the tube already starts its deterioration. Problems like unbalanced white, dimming and streaking start to appear and - obviously - it only gets worse with time. Around 50 000 hours, any tube should be replaced. Above that, it's just garbage. Rejuvenation is simply a trick to get a few more months of a tube, if you're lucky because the chances are 50/50.
Over 70k run hours.. Wow.. just wow...
Love this monitor, the image on it is very, very sharp as on all bvm's, but there alway's is a problem with crt's and this monitor have crappy horizontal linearity. It can be slightly adjusted with small magnet's adding them to the horizontal linearity coil's. I have two bvm D14H5 and each one have this issue, one have 8500+h on it and rhe other have 3800+h.
Thanks for the advice
480p on component cable?
yes, work and RGsB
Yes this BVM goes from 240p up to 1080i through Component or SDi/HD SDi.
I love retrogaming with Ps2 in 480p ;)
I had one thing wrong about all the Sony BVM..... Freaking Price is much higher than a High End OLED TV!
Man, those d series bvms look like microwaves! Would love to own one myself
@Italo O d32 even better but I Prefer PC CRTs
@Italo O They are Just too pricey believe me some Low tvline Consumer or PC monitors with emulators in them or ossc Look better or the Same .
BVMs give ugly Scanlines when they have too many TV Lines
@Italo O What is with a 20inc Sony Trinitron Consumer Set should also bei fine there are comparisions on pvm, BVM vs Trinitron Consumer and the N64 looked way better in the Consumer Sets
@Italo O for 240p only BVM is nice but 3D and Progressive will Look better in SD or es CRTs I guess
@Italo O PC CRT with ossc is the all around solution
