The way I solve the dynamic range issue is manually bracketing in 48 megapixel mode. The images are even more detailed because of the bracketing, and I get tons of dynamic range. It’s incredible what you can do if you know the little tricks.

Can't u change iso or shutterspeed In raw photo that u take so clouds and more details pop with sunlight shining towards lens

Maybe your software simply isn’t downsizing the 48mp image well when “zoomed out”. Maybe it is not using all 48mp to create the downsized image/display. Resize it to 12mp and then compare...and of course resize the 12mp to 48mp and compare again.
Will try that out and see if it makes a difference. You're probably right, it may have had something to do with the way the comparison screens were set up. Certainly wasn't what I was expecting, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment my friend
Maybe the 48mp looks softer than 12mp, but this is RAW, the real question is which looks better after appropriate editing.
Agreed, I do a quick edit on the 48MP image in the video in lightroom with good results

If it’s truly a 12mp picture and 48mp, when you zoom each into 500%, they would each have a very different framing. The houses at 500% on the 48mp would be way closer in than the 13mp at 500%. Not sure why your framing is the same if they are both at 500?
Well spotted! I believe the 28MP picture is zoomed in 250%

Thanks for the feedback, I think you may be right on listening back, I'll amend this for future videos. Its a tricky one, I have the Phantom 4 Pro and I haven't decided whether to get rid or not yet. I'm going to do some like for like tests on the video that may be helpful as the Phantom 4 Pro has a similar sensor size to the Mavic 2 Pro
neilcollinsrecording that would be good I have a phantom 3 advanced and looking to upgrade I’m drawn to the air 2 with the cost but then the adjustable aperture on the Mavic 2 pro 😂 I don’t know what one to go for

Clearly if you want to blow up a portion of the photo - or zoom in - 48megapixel clearly the winner. At normal viewing - the Smart Photo.
That's generally what i found to be the case. I was impressed by the sharpness of the smart photo though

It’s a cheap camera ! Hence the price
Its not the best camera but I'm still quite impressed with the image quality
