  • Nancy Pelosi has now made roughly double her salary in one single stock market trade she made in Nvidia late last year. Politicians are now beating the world's best investors and are consistently outperforming the S&P 500. And it all comes back to congressional stock trading. So how bad is it?

No. But when they finally ban themselves from trading stocks, that is the top of the market. They had years to pass a ban, but they are delaying because they know it is still going higher. They will conveniently ban themselves near the top, citing “ethical” reasons in order to not spook the market when they all divest. The Federal Reserve did this already when the SP500 breached the 4.236 fib level back in Winter 2021. Now we are back above those levels. The end of the multi decade bull run is almost over and we are about to embark on a multi decade bear correction.

I think any congress person that has inside information about a certain bill that will influence companies they invest in would either need to recuse themselves from decision making, or sell before the discussion. Otherwise it is a conflict of interest. After a bill passes, they should be not allowed to trade in such a stock for some period of time -- maybe 5 years or something.

I can understand Pelosi's argument, however, there should be safeguards, penalties in place should a trade be directly related to a committee they serve under, and politicians should be prevented from voting if there is a conflict of interest. But, they should be free to trade outside that and shouldn't be disadvantaged by being a public servant. My opinion! Great work 🙂

Standards/expectations around politicians participating in the sharemarket seem to be stricter in Australia.
On the other hand, real estate investing by politicians in Australia seems to be more accepted. Many politicians from both sides have declared large real estate holdings.

Good video, too many people forget the self interest/political agendas when it comes to stocks, certain businesses being viewed favourably/negatively with news in the media etc. It often clouds the underlying fundamentals of certain businesses as to whether they should be worth that much, and also influences stances/ideas towards the economy. E.g. false narratives to achieve political security goals, slamming certain businesses as it is a conflict of interest as mentioned to government regulation etc, and many other things. But a good counter argument to all of this, is being in such a position, you have access to a wealth of wealthy individuals, highly accurate news, and a large body of information to work with. If anything they would be much well better informed about certain things than the general public, hence would be in a much greater position to make better decisions with certain things. But I somewhat agree it should be banned, can be abused. People should be in congress to be a public servant. Not to make money or simply have power. That in itself, valuing personal, money over sound policy to prevent corruption says it all about their motivations. It is not serve but to gain.

They should only have their salary as a top up if their gains are insufficient. Nobody should take a loan packed by shares of a company for which they hold influence on share price. Any portfolio of someone in office or their immediate family should be made public live. Profit all you want when you're in power fine, but don't profit more than the people that you govern. The alternative is do just have a pension plan for everyone in government just like a normal working person. There is nothing wrong with participating in the stock market but if you have access to information or influence not available to the public then that is absolutely a conflict and any gains should be given back to their riding. They have the salaries to set themselves up for retirement completely on their own with a normal market index fund. There is just no reason other than greed for being able to pick stocks.

The United States as we know it is no more. All signs point to 2024 being a year of significant economic hardship for the entire nation. Put your cash to use straight away to increase its value. I was aware that I needed to invest. I had no idea how quickly a few thousand dollars a month would go up. Though it is. Since 2020, I've made about $600,000.

When you first start off, you should get advise from a fiduciary counsellor if you don't want to crash and burn. They adopt a profit-driven approach based on individual risk tolerance because their entire skill set is built on simultaneously trading long and short.

Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.
