Whenever the Bears find success, it’s never because of a great offense-it’s ALWAYS because of a phenomenal defense (specifically featuring LBs like Singletary/Urlacher and edge rushers like Dent/Mack), a capable running game, and great special teams.
It will be interesting to see if the formula can be repeated to another Super Bowl title in today’s pass-happy NFL with rules mostly geared against defense...

Indeed this was a great season with a very painful ending unfortunately!!!!!! If Cutler Bears had the 06 o line we would’ve definitely won a few championships. We should of stuck with what got us there in the championship game a heavy dose of Thomas Jones sprinkled with a lil Benson and then hit them with Rex play action. The Bears game plan had Rex out there throwing the ball like he was Manning.

I remember watching the night game against the Seahawks. The TD pass to Berrian (6:30) was the smoothest-looking play... I thought to myself "They're going to the Super Bowl this season." Sadly, the wheels seemed to start coming off the wagon for Grossman during the Monday Night game against Arizona. It was a shame because he looked dynamite for the first five games of the 2006 season, and was the NFC offensive player of the month for September of '06.

  • @upchurch231

Man if only the Bears would have signed Kurt Warner instead of Brian Griese. If that happens the Bears win the Super Bowl against the Colts. After the 2005 season when the Bears went with Orton all year they knew they needed a veteran backup behind Grossman because he keeps getting hurt all the time. They went with Brian Griese. If we had Kurt Warner there's no way he doesn't come in at some point during the season when Grossman's having one of his bad Rexgames. I mean look at what Warner did without a great defense like the Bears had just a few years later in Arizona. Warner took Arizona to a Super Bowl like I said with not so great of a defense in Arizona. With how good are defense was and are running game was that year there's no way we don't beat the Colts in the Super Bowl if we have Warner instead of Grossman. We had a chance to but chose Brian freaking greasy. Smh

I squarely place the blame for this Super Bowl loss on Lovie Smith. Refusing to make defense adjustments, taking Thomas Jones out of the game, and so on. Lovie allowed himself to be outcoached, and he was either too stubborn to do anything about it, or he was comfortable with it.

To many haters on Grossman he had a good season,in top 4 QBs in the league, and they had a weak lineman(O) and by end of the season they had an Oline that could be considered no better than decent, lot of people forget Benson was on this team

No 1985 defense was great not the 2006 defense-- Something named prhill made this -- totally UNFAIR comment ---
that mid 80s team was repeatedly exploited in the secondary -- pass rush made all the difference back then and even there they had to usually line up 8 men on Line of scrimmage
