MY GRANDMOTHER'S RECIPE
3 cups (410 g) all purpose flour
2/3 cup (120 g) sugar
1 tsp (2.5 g) baking powder
4 Tbsp (60 g) softened salted butter
1 cup (240 ml) cinnamon anise seed tea
Tea: add 1 1/2 cups water, one cinnamon stick, 2 tsp anise seeds and boil for 5 minutes, then turn off heat and steep for another five minutes. Then strain out seeds and cinnamon stick.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR GORDITAS DE AZUCAR
- In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, sugar and mix well
- Now add softened butter and combine
- Next add egg, heavy cream and combine well
NOTE: Dough will be very sticky and tacky, sprinkle a tablespoon of flour at a time if necessary.
- Flour your work surface and turn dough out on to counter and knead for 5 to 10 minutes until dough is still slightly tacky but smooth
- Rest your dough covered with a damp towel for 15 minutes
- Take your rested dough and roll out until even and 1/2 inch in thickness
- Now take a round biscuit cutter or juice glass, dip in flour and cut out dough
- Once all dough is cut, cover with a damp cloth and rest for 10 minutes
- Using a preheated skillet on a low heat setting, place your dough rounds on the skillet
- Cook on each side for 5 minutes or until exterior is deep golden brown and the interior is cooked through, cook time may vary
NOTE: Be sure to work with a low setting and adjust heat if necessary. The outside can burn while the inside is undercooked if the heat is to high.
- This recipe can make 8 to 10 gorditas depending on the size and shape. Enjoy!

EASY GORDITAS DE AZUCAR
SWEET MEXICAN STYLE PAN BISCUITS - Jak na to + styl
Thank you and your grandmother for the awesome gorditas recipes. Love to hear the family stories of when your uncles and aunts where growing up, it nice to know that I wasn't the only one with family memory's of my youth back in that era. You have a very special and loving family. Record all the memory's of your grandparents, uncles and aunts so one day you'll be able to pass those onto your "Grandchildren" and the memory's won't be lost in time.
Will do Tom! I definitely look back on memories like that and am thankful for my family. 😊🙏
@ some of the best recipes ever came out of the necessity of hardship. Our foremothers had to be innovative with what they had! Your children will have wonderful memories of the recipes you make for them. I hope they grow interested in learning to cook with you, then you can share special stories with them that they can pass down to their children when they teach them to cook!
Out of my three children, only the youngest has expressed an interest in learning to cook. Serious cooking, from scratch that is. I'm trying to encourage her and create fun memories since I'm self-taught and don't have stories to go with my recipes like you do. Hopefully I can make it fun enough that she'll have a few stories to share with her own children about learning from her crazy mom! 🤪😂
Grandmas were always better because they were made of years of experience and love. I miss them so much!
You are so wonderful and so are your recipes. I’m so happy I found your channel wonderful family too.
Thank you Ana! I appreciate it! 😊
It's great that you share family recipes with us, as well as the fond memories that go along with them! Thanks, it's definitely appreciated! 🙏🇨🇦❤
Thank you Susan! Gosh the stories I could tell...lol!
@ Lol isn't that the truth for any family!! 😉
It sure is! 😂
@ 😂
I love that you embrace and implement your grandma stories and recipes. I too loved to sit and hear my grandmas childhood memories and cherish them. Both my grandparents came from 10+ kids. They made do with what they had.. Thank you for sharing your family recipes and stories. ❤️
Thanks for sharing ur grandmother's receta
I am a Korean chef ..
Your recipe is really great
Thank you so much! 🙏
Does your family have a favorite? Thanks for all the wonderful recipes
My Lita also made stuff for me that I’ll always have fond memories of her. And when I think of them I always think of her! I too have not mastered making things like my grandma (Lita) but I sure have come close! But if you think about it we could never make it as good or taste the same as they did. I think it’s because not only were they the masters at making great food but they made it with all of their love ❤️ for us! Thank you 🙏🏼 for making me think 💭 of my la abuelita! 🙏🏼❤️😘🤟🏼
I just want you to know, you're awesome! You have a lovely family ❤️❤️
Thank you so much! You are awesome as well! 😊
@ thank you ❤️
Wow, herbal tea for the liquid. That is something I'll have to try!
Thanks for sharing :)
I absolutely enjoy your recipes and your style of teaching... I have cooked for many years, but watch every second of your videos as to not miss a single step... I would however really like a lesson on the many different peppers... their flavors and the quantity of heat they have... I did make your wonderful enchiladas with the red sauce and I was so proud to serve them to my family... thank you☺️
My grandpas mom used to make me tea out of the leaves of a lime tree. I was about 5yrs old. Never have I ever tasted tea like hers! ❤️
Yes! I bet it was so good. My Grandparents always made different teas for us. They were all good. 😊
Thank you so much for all your recipes and for sharing memories like that. They get to my heart! 😘
You are welcome! I appreciate you. 🙏
Wow, I love the idea of gorditas made with herbal tea. I bet it would be yummy with a little jam or queso. Thanks for the story about your family, too. I think that’s what makes your videos very special 😊.
Thoroughly enjoyed the precious story about your grandma....can't wait to make these for my family to pass along 😘
😋 . My grandma used to make us orange peel tea ,there was no milk lol or cinnamon tea... You brought me good memories of my childhood 😌 . Thanks so much ! God bless you and your family 💙
This brought back warm memories when my mom would bake just a simple batch of cookies...you would have thought I had a million dollars...👍👍
Wow I miss these! My childhood memories ! Thank you so much
I love Gorditas! My mom would always make few filled with beans and cheese or beans with Chile de molcajete.
I love these
You are an amazing cook! I am so happy I found your channel, your recipes are easy to follow and I lvoe to hear a relaxing voice when explaining things step by step. Those look fantastic, I have never tried gorditas, I haven't ever seen them either but I need to give these a go. thank you for this.
Omg! I totally forgot about these! Yummy!
Garcias! You brought back lovely memories from my childhood in Monterrey. My mom and other relatives made Gorditas de Azúcar..and she used manteca vegetal , Inca. Every afternoon my dad had them for his merienda. Also my aunt gave us the tea from leaves of lemon tree. She'd stuff the flour ball with some sugar. So as you open the gordita, the melted sugar will be a treat. Great explanation from you. God bless you. Una amiga, from Texas.
Thank you for the stand mixer to kneed tip , and the recipes are wonderful
Looks good. I would like to try this recipe out.
Aww nice memories, and thank you for the recipe. I grew up in Monterrey, and definately love and miss mexican cooking. I am going to try the first one, see how it goes.
Yay..Thanks so.much for the metrics measurement! God bless ya!!
Yay! I am glad it helps. I am definitely leaning to get used to the metric system, but I know it is a more accurate way to measure for recipes. Thank you and blessings to you! 😊
Who wants to try this? :)
I'm making some now!
I think the reason my doughs don’t work out as well as yours is because I need that bowl. 😂
It’s really such a nice depth, diameter and the dimples help too. As I’ve been a long time sub, this bowl has been very well utilized and you’ve probably had forever. Can you still find it?
Delicious
Okay that was a blast from the past, my Uncle Ray used to make what he called "cowboy bread" just regular tortilla dough shaped into rounds and cooked on an iron griddle until they were golden brown. We'd split them open and eat them with butter and jam. :)
Love when you post!!! 🤗
Thank you! 😊
I love your recipe I made it for business ❤️
This looks SO yummy! I need to try it! Too good not to!!😋😋🤤🤤
Gorditas are my favorite meal but with meat❤️👌🥰🤤
Same here! I need to work on a savory flour gordita recipe video. 😊
Simply Mamá Cooks yes that would be amazing! Because then I could make them myself 😊👌🥰

When you say Mexican table cream you mean like cacique or el mexicano? Do u prefer one over the other?
Can you find or make Gordtas Dulces made with masa harina? I have looked for that recipe for many years and no one seems to remember it. So glad to have your channel too!
C. Venza I'd like that version as well...my mom used to make them with the masa harina they were so good with melted butter!
I love your channel, recipes, and warm stories you share. I would love to know how you make the tea used in Grandmas recipe!
Wow they look like English Muffins. Yummy.
I have not had one of these in a long time.
Hi I love your videos! I’m a little lost on your description down below it says 1 tps of baking powder and in the video you said 2 tsp of baking soda? So are we suppose to use 1 tsp or 2 tsp?
친구님~멋진 요리 잘봤어요^^🤗🤗🤗
최고^^👍👍👍 Good^^👏👏
💚💞💝💕💛❣💖💓💗💜🧡❤💘💙💗💖💝
Hi. Wha if you baked them? What temp? And for how long? Just wondering. Love your videos Mamma 💗💗💗
What brand of heavy cream did you use ?
You are so good at your job! They look delicious,Mujercita and I can just taste the anise and cinnamon! Yummy!😊❤
Thanks for another good one! One question, does Mexican table cream sometimes come in a can? Or am I thinking of something else? 🤔
I love that bowl. Where can I find one like it?
I would like to see a video on arroz con leche 🙂
Here you go. 😊 czcams.com/video/WNGxzpbSWUo/video.html
Thank you !!!!
Do you have any sweet tamale recipes? I'm looking for 2 in particular, pineapple and raisin.
Wow they look awesome, I love gorditas. Do you know how to make a gordita like the ones to put taco meat in, for a savory gordita?
Will it come out okay if I do one without the milk or tea how would I do that one? I really enjoy your videos ☺️ thank you.
Is it okay if I don't use any baking powder? Please answer as soon as possible! Sorry for the rush
When I first saw it I thought it was a Korean hotteok
Can I use heavy whipping cream
Tbh I know your comment was from 3 months ago. But I did use heavy whipping cream, and it came out fine. I didn’t make the heavy whipping cream thick I just dipped the liquid into my mixing bowl. And everything came out good. 👍
Is it possible to have a nonsweet version of this? Basically skip the sugar? :)
Are you in the United States? Where did you get your table cream?
It's from the brand Cacique and I purchased it at my local grocery store (HEB) 😊
Can you substitute Apple juice, instead of tea?
So like crema casique?
Can u make a recipe on how to make gorditas?
My mom makes these but they're more flat and bigger not little and thick. She called them something else tho
Your's look and method is identical to english muffins, recipe is slightly different though.
