      Oh man, I'm no-where near being a pro... Though we'll all get there one day!
      I was really lucky to take up inline skating when I did - it was during the year I was studying in Spain. The amazing weather and pavements there meant that I could skate every day, be it to university, to the shops, or just for fun - definitely accelerated the learning process - so I'd say that was like, 10 hours or so every week.
      Now that I'm back in the UK, obviously I don't get to get out on the streets as much; but I joined an ice-skating club in addition - so, now I'm getting close to that time but also with great coaching!

    There is something we often forget to teach: *arms*. It's really important when you learn to make your arms follow your feet, and to look where you going instead of looking at your feet. You will learn faster and have a better balance. Arms up at the level of your shoulders, when your turning keep your arms up, the outside one front and the inside one back, so when you do a half turn, inverse your arms position. When you jump, flex your knees as much as you can, and make your arms follow: from the sides of your body (up), they will go down and then cross against your breast with an impulsion to the top.

    everyone thinks wearing pads makes you look nerdy... WEAR THE DAMN PADS! and a helmet!
    wrist, knee pads and helmet. start on flat smooth surface maybe next to some grass if you can.
    fall on your knees a couple times use the knee pads and wear your wrist guards... helps to fall couple times on the pads, try wearing shoes and just fall on your knees few times, see how easy it will be for you...

    Back in the 90´s there was this one summer when my parents gave me roller blades because I had good results in school, so naturally, I tried my best to learn how to skate with my friends, and succeeded. Since that year I never skated again, but now almost twenty years later and with 33 years of age, I decided I needed to exercise more, and went to buy a pair of skates once again. I was mind blown on how my body "remembered" how to skate and keep my balance. Now all I think about is skating after a hard days work, it´s like I am a kid again. Even my wife and daughter want to skate with me, it´s amazing how the family is getting closer because of this sport. Loved your video, I´m going to try and do some of the things you suggested. Cheers!

      Arena dos Jogos Hmmm well I "was" able to do what he shows in the video, plus I was an aggressive skater to, I have memories doing backflips, 360´s, 720´s on ramps half pipes etc, but aggressive skate = you wont skate for many years the body cant hold that abuse for a long time I have plates and screws in my bones because some epic fails on half pipe, so I had to abandon more than had I was forced to abandon aggressive skating and go on freestyle. I actually enjoy it freestyle, but my business married life etc etc force me to abandon that to, same as you I feel the need now, after 12 years I got my ass on my skates again, I didn't forgot it to but also I dont feel that secure anymore cause the leak of practice. When I saw this guy video makes me feel so hard the need to skate again at my 36 years old =P

    • @HarmonicaMustang
      @HarmonicaMustang Před 7 lety +19

      When I was learning the T-stop, I couldn't put my braking foot down flat against the ground so I used the front wheel only to brake. Instead of braking it just made me turn and I stuck with it when I needed to slow down when going into a turn, if I need to do a sharp turn or if I need to turn 180 degrees and face backwards. I still need to slow down before doing a turn to avoid losing balance due to counter forces but its still a useful technique.

    I'm pretty good at inline skating as it's the only sport I've ever kept up with since I was a kid, I got my first pair very young, I just realized I did most of these things by myself just out playing, a lot of these are tricks that come naturally if you just keep going, practice makes perfect, but still an incredibly informative video and I appreciate it 👏 can't wait for summer so I can go skating again!

      @romahnae Před 7 lety +5

      lol. ..interesting. yeah, when we're kids there is little to no fear at all of falling so we learn to skate on ice or surface seamlessly with no prisoners taken. that's why it was a "piece of cake" for me, when i first hit the ice years ago and found out that i could balance and skate on ice. it's other way around for me, though, i've since recently started roller skating, again in years..
      the ice isn't so easy for me anymore since i have not been ice skating for a long time.
      i'd decided to hit the ice last week and found out that my confidence had greatly diminished.. i had to skate around for a while before attempting, something once simple to me as, cross overs. my feet felt wobbly, i kept going off the ice to retighten or loosen my skates and i was relying more on outside-edges turns to just turn. it was just last winter season that i was 'killing it' at my beginner to intermediate level, skating really fast, hitting turns sharply and building ample speed with cross overs on both sides.
      last week, i felt completely new on the ice... maybe it's due to me roller blading at lot recently and thought that it would be same on ice, you know, that child mindset i once had. i prefer ice skating though, i was always say that i wish i had a frozen over lake near me all the time. i consider myself a beginner to intermediate skater, right there in between.. but i wanna be a freestyle skater on both ice and surface.

    Great video for beginners!! I grew up skating and even worked at a drive in restaurant in high school. But it’s been a about 10 years since I last skated. I’d been wanting to get back into for the last couple of years but just hadn’t had to time to find a store to buy a good pair, as I live in the US and it seems to be pretty rare around here. About 4 months ago though I found a brand new pair of skates at a yard sale! Sure they were a cheap pair, but I paid $5 for them and that was enough to give me the little but of motivation I needed. I now am the the (probably weird 😂) girl who skates around our suburban neighborhood for 5 or more miles every other day. It’s like riding a bike, you never forget. Which is funny that I’m so good at skating because I’m super clumsy with regular shoes. It also helps me maintain my leg mass that I don’t want to loose as I approach 30 years old. Anyways, thanks for the video, I’m sure it’s been really helpful to beginners!

    If you remove the two middle wheels you can jump higher and you are faster but that also has a drawback you can not ride so well over stones or small hills, but your inlinestakers are a lot easier try it it is fun

    • @MythOfAlex
      @MythOfAlex Před 4 lety +1

      Azuuu Haft this is a myth. Especially at skating rinks this doesn’t help. I see a lot of new skaters doing this and it makes them look stupid. Half of them don’t even know what it does. It doesn’t make you faster but it decreases weight by a tad. Best idea would just to invest in a more expensive and lighter pair of skates. You lose so much grip and speed by taking those wheels out.
