Easiest way to win the first game is to just do nothing and when someone loses all their cards with less then three stars just give him all your cards and say good luck. You still have all three of your stars and no cards and didn’t play a single game.
You take a loan before the game so add that to your debts

Man, watching this and noticing the various differences from the anime is very fun. The rock, paper scissors of the anime is obviously superior, but it's pretty curious how here they went for the main exit instead of pulling out a stair out of nowhere, that was ingenious.

I never watched the anime, so my first thought was, "Oh yes, I'm sure a loan shark, those people who break your legs at best and kill you at worst when you don't pay, really cares about what the legal amount of interest you can collect is."
Don't even need to watch the anime to know they'll get their money. Loan sharks aren't exactly known for their ethics and compassion.

That escape plan is seriously questionable (at least for me). That's because they're working underground. That means that all escape route can be easily predicted. Plus, it looks very stuffy in there. And, the captors won't hesitate to kill them. Also, they're working there to pay their debts, not necessarily to really become slaves. In other words, even if they escape there, they will still be hunted to pay their debts, unless if they're willing to be hiding and running for the rest of their lives.
If Kaiji spent his time studying instead of gambling he could have known about the percentage of illegal interest and end of story- do your homework, guys.

The E-card game was so much more intense in the anime/manga. In the anime/manga, Kaiji has to gamble his eardrums inch by inch, gambling how far a drill will move every game he loses, each inch being worth 100,000 yen. Kaiji had the option to only bet 1 inch each game and never put his eardrums on the line, but if he bet any more than that he risked his eardrums being drilled into.
I can’t believe they got rid of Tokugawa’s punishment and Hyodo absolutely obliterating Kaiji’s fingers. Literally some of the best moments of season 1.

The anime is currently DVD only, but I think someone uploaded the whole series to youtube a few years back. The unique artstyle is a little ugly at first, but that's definetly one show to watch for the plot.

If you were to read the manga or watch the show you would know that the government is largely in the pocket of the Teiai corporation which is the company that owns Kaiji's debt. Chairman Hyodou is the most powerful man in the country if not the world with the amount of wealth he controls.

This isn't the manga, though it is implied in the movie I guess
In my opinion it's pretty clearly outlined in the manga/anime that Endo tricks Kaiji into ignoring that the interest rate is illegal with the fake phone call, and other tricks (like "Espoir" translating as hope when it really is a slaughterhouse, or berating him for being a loser). Teiai corporation can't outright violate Japanese law without concern over a small grub out of many, which is why they are going after rejects in the first place.
I really appreciate the feedback. And I can see the argument both ways, just wanted to point this out because a lot of research goes into these. I sometimes can't include all that info in the video because it wouldn't be interesting enough to most. Hope that makes sense

@@HowToBeatYT In the anime/manga, Endo only tricked Kaiji into taking part in the Espoir gamble, not into thinking the intrest rate was in any way legal. Kaiji even brought up that the intrest rate was illegal but Endo implicitly threatened that he'd go after Kaiji's family if Kaiji refused to pay or went to the police.
The Kaiji anime is one of the best I've ever seen. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Main character almost becomes a slave for the rest of his life because of loan shark and risks his life and livelihood several times to escape? Better take her out to dinner after
I more than probably wouldn't survive. But on the beam part, 12:16 I think walking pretty much sideways like skaters and make both feet face the same way is a death sentence. I'm an ex gymmnast and my forte was the beam and my balance is stil great. I'd say make each feet face outward. The left one faces left and right one faces right. Just a normal 45° angle is more than enough, straight back and let the foot slide along the beam to take a step. Don't bend the knees to take a step forward. And the usual no looking dowm. Having confidence is key too. But also to feel the beam with your foot before taking a step to make sure there is space. Makes up for better balance rather than just going slightly sideways.
I was thinking too that one push on your back from wind will end it.
