    The EGR valve lowers peak combustion temperatures and reduces oxides of nitrogen emissions (NOx) by recirculating exhaust gas through the intake manifold and into the combustion chamber.

    Straight to the point and easy to follow. I've been doing computer & car repair for a while and love diagnosing, the only problem I have is my stuff works wonderfully until it doesn't. I usually spend a couple of weeks trying to remember how to do the repair (cause if you don't repair stuff regularly, you truly forget), let alone figure out where I put the necessary tools. But CZcams is a benefit when you have people who understand the benefits of camera positioning and can stick to the point of their video (none of the rambling). In car repair you have mechanics, parts changers, and mechanic instructors, the last are the biggest benefit because they can do the repair and explain the ins and outs of the system they're repairing to help other mechanics or the DIYers. Gotta love them and you are definitely appreciated.

    • @davidedmundson8402
      @davidedmundson8402 Před 5 lety +1

      The old-style EGR valves used vacuum to operate the valve via a diaphragm (the vacuum was used to provide movement of the diaphragm which then moved the valve - like a power brake booster). An electronic EGR valve uses a solenoid to open or close the valve.

    May I ask a question? Does an 09 Honda have the same values as the 03 Honda you tested? I did a tune up on an 09 Honda Fit, including replacing the ignition coils since I was in there and it ran beautifully for about three weeks then performance dropped dramatically out of nowhere. The diagnostic came up a bad EGR valve. Some people claim a dirty valve can do this but unless the build up is enough to keep the valve in one position, I don't see how cleaning it really would solve anything. I think the way mine failed, the solenoid had to go bad. It's not being driven open because the engine runs great initially but as I drive and the engine heats up, that's when I can notice loss of performance. Are the pin values the same???

      @@CarsNToys I had codes P0460 fuel level sensor A circuit(Gas guauge been out for two years) P0442 Evaporative emission sytem leak detected. P0506 Idle air control system rpm lower than expected. I have a rough idle.I had a strong gas odor under the hood but a New throttle body, MAF sensor, canister vent valve solenoid, canister purge valve, and pcv valve got rid of the strong gas smell. Still seems like the fuel mixture isn't right though, loss of power and still getting misfires. Each item i replaced for the intake/Evap system made it run better. Fuel additive helps, but i cant buy that for every refill. The main problem is when my automatic trans shifts in 1,2,3 gears it revs up to around 3k rpm's and makes the rear end or drive shaft jolt. It gets worse the hotter the engine gets. All gears shift awkward with high rpm's, 4,5,6th gears dont shift violently though. I replaced the camshaft sensor today and it made it shift about 40% better, and seems to get more power now. I'm about to install a crankshaft position sensor in the dark in about 20 min. Im hoping that helps since a failing crankshaft sensor can lead to misfires i read. I have a new coil pack, plugs, and wires that are top notch quality. I have new brakes but it seems like the pads squeek when driving with out breaking, and loss in power in brakes. Possibly the vehicle transmission sensor that controls the abs sensor, that relays my speeds back to the computer/trans? Possibly the power break booster has a vacuum leak creating this mess? I have the vehicle/trans sensor just cant get the stripped bolt out of the tranfer case because its in a tight spot! (I'm a millwright, so the stripped bolt realy fucking bothers me)😟 Possibly a bad EGR valve? I used a spray bottle with water, but it wasn't effective in finding a vacuum leak in any hoses. Their is too much air coming from the engine to get a good spray on the vacuum lines. I havent taken the egr valve off yet to compress it yet or to see blockage. Don't wanna buy a $25 egr gasket if the one i have is no good, but it seems like its a metal gasket from what i looked up. Maybe a bad vapor canister? I did notice the hose that goes on the fueling neck had a slight drip, but i just thought the fuel was over pressurizing from the bad cannister vent valve solonoid. I replaced all kinds of fuel parts over the last 2 years, something is messing them up. Maybe a bad fuel pressure sensor? 2004 explorer 4.0 sohc flex fuel with 137k miles. I change oil every 1500-2000 miles, new air filters on time, new fuel filters on time. Possibbly spark plugs and wires fouling up now from misfiring now too. Havent checked that yet. Please help out man! You get me in the right direction i will send you a Chri$tma$ gift!

    • @paralleltripper
      @paralleltripper Před 3 lety +1

      The egr is exhaust gas recirculation so when it’s engaged, it’s feeding exhaust gas back to the engine. When done manually on a cold motor like in the vid, it causes the engine to run rough. Normally It’s suppose to engage when the car is running warmer to help cool the burning of fuel and lower emissions.

      . It's really unlikely that your EGR valve has anything to do with your engine smoking. The smoke is more likely to be caused by bad valve seals worn piston rings, a leaking injector, a leaking fuel pressure regulator, or a blown head gasket.

      @mgtow6450 Před 5 lety +1

      @@johnlira3316 I know this answer is long so, grab some popcorn. LOL. And, good luck. It could be a cracked or warped cylinder head.
      Head gasket failure, cracked engine block or rings. However, if it's thin wispy smoke it could be condensation. However if it's thick white smoke it could be something more serious. 1) Inspect The Intake Gasket. (This is a car part that seals the cylinder head in order to prevent the coolant from getting to the cylinder. Any leak or damage in this part creates an opportunity for the coolant to enter the chamber. Long story short, it will create white smoke from exhaust pipe) 2) Examine Further To Check The Head Gasket (Remember to only perform this step when the intake gasket is working fine. After that, we will come to the head gasket. This is a car part that seals the cylinder head in order to prevent the coolant from getting to the cylinder. Any leak or damage in this part creates an opportunity for the coolant to enter the chamber. Long story short, it will create white smoke from exhaust pipe. If this part is still fine, we will check the cylinder. 3)Look For Any Crack In The Cylinder Head (The cylinder head is the car part that made of aluminum, which is prone to breaking in overheated conditions. This part is essential since it connects to the engine block and head gasket. Sad news for car owners: If this part is broken or damaged in any way, you have to change it.) What Causes White Smoke From Exhaust Smells Like Gas ? Usually, it is water vapor or steam, since it is introduced into the chamber. For that reason, you will have the water dripping from the tailpipe. Drivers can also see the water in the fuel or a leak in the head gasket. You might think it is normal, but that is the engine misfiring and pushing raw fuel out. In those cases, the car will be running rough and drivers can smell a raw fuel smell. In order to fix this, just check the fuel and replace if necessary. What Causes White Smoke From Exhaust When Idle? If you have white smoke from exhaust when stopping or idling, your combustion chambers engine might get oil inside, which cause them to burn off the exhaust. This will cause white smoke, along with the idle issue. This is very easy to recognize since there is a difference between burning gasoline explosion and a burning oil explosion. This problem should be fixed soon since the longer the oil stays inside, the more damage it causes for the spark plugs, which might require replacement.
