Much respect to you, dear lady. The pain will ease, the grief will abate, and the memories will endure. When you're ready, your sofa will attract another pointy face. If it doesn't, get in touch, I'm sure we can find one for you. Peace unto you and yours.

I lost Taffy about 3 years ago, at age 12, to kidney failure. On New Years Eve (afternoon) I had to have Rita put down at age 15, also due to the onset of kidney failure. Both wonderful Greyhounds. That's them in the thumbnail. Loss, in my case, wasn't grief, but relief, knowing that both lived long and happy lives. Thanks for sharing. Jon

Hardest thing we do. They truly tell us when they are ready to cross the bridge. Pain and grief are the price we pay for the best and purest love of all. This week marked 15 years since I helped my first Greyhound cross over. I held her and sang to her as she passed. Everyone in the vets office cried. I didn't. Because I didn't want to stress her any more and really wanted her to be at peace. Also, I knew once the tears came it would be endless. And it was the hardest loss ever. A few months later I took in a foster who was a super spook. Was only temporary. Famous last words...

It’s the worst part for sure. I lost my Italian Greyhound just under a year ago. Even the 17 years I had with her were not enough. Eventually, the sadness fades and you’re left with only happy memories.

I'm so sorry.. losing our furry best friends is something that will never get easier, no matter how many times you go through it. I highly recommend Cuddle Clones. You can custom make beautiful urns and even get a stuffed animal that looks exactly like your fur baby. It's something that has helped me a lot in times where I wish they were still here. Take time for yourself to grieve. To anyone reading this, give your pets an extra hug. Maybe just one more treat. Take them on a car ride or even just a walk to the park. Our time with them is never long enough. Those little moments are always the ones with the biggest impact in the end. ❤️

It's never easy to make the decision to end your pet's suffering. And however long it takes to come to that conclusion, you will question whether owning a dog is worth the pain and grief. I know I did when I lost my greys, both to cancer. But, no better way to overcome those feelings than a good healthy ear scratchin'!

  • @imagseer
    @imagseer Před rokem

So sorry to read of your loss. It is SO hard to let them go but I've always worked with the principle that it's better a week too early than a day too late. Peggy my last one, passed last September at age 15 which is quite extraordinary as I've lost others at only 5 and 8. Peggy developed arthritis and progressive LS after about 11 /12 and the vet over 2 sessions eventually took half of her teeth out too. But we figured that we couldn't put her thru another general anesthetic when she was so old, so we used pain relief and antibiotics as necessary. It was the LS which was the last straw and I'd made a promise that once she could no longer get up and walk safely and pain free that it would be time to let her go. The vet put her to sleep in the back of the car and it was really peaceful. The anesthetic in the drug first renders them unconscious and then paralyses the muscles so that they soon pass due to lack of oxygen. All you can do is just hold them and talk gently to them for a few minutes; whether you want to be there or not depends on your personal choice. I think hearing is the last sense to go so just imagine the last thing they hear is your loving voice. At my age and with some medical conditions etc Peggy is probably my last dog, and that makes it especially poignant. But with each of my dogs I can say they were much loved and terribly missed. Over the last 40 years I hadn't been without a dog for more than 4 weeks, and I rationalized that they were really only lent to us, and we could teach the next one all we had learned from those which had passed. So hopefully we just get better and better at looking after dogs.

Hi Steph.... My daughters name is Steph and you are greek like my wife. We have had 2 Gryhounds. Sarah, Ray and Red is the one still with us. Sarah our first died in my arms in the Miami BAggage carousel area. We transported her from Grand Cayman. Our second greyhound Ray had spine issues as well and we had to put him down. I am convinced RaY MAY have been injected with Steroids and his spine and leg issues maty have been as a result. He was 8 when we put him down.
Red is now 10 and will be 11 in June. Great Dog.
We are like you ... very attached to the breed.
It is very hard to lose a dog... and Greyhounds are such cool sensitive souls.

There is something healing about sharing so I hope being able to tell us your story will help you cope with this terrible loss. Our sweet grey passed suddenly at 10.5 years old from a heart attack doing what she loved… her morning run around the yard. It was devastating to see her drop with no warning. I’m glad you were able to comfort Mac and say good bye. I saw your 10 reasons not to get a dog. Well this is one of them but the love they give us and knowing we have given an ex-racer a loving home to just be a dog is worth it all. Keep Tosh close, that’s your best medicine!

I understand this video and how you are feeling. I lost my heart last week after 7 years. Tattoo was only 10 and had four cancers (gingival fibrosarcoma...even though I vigorously brushed his teeth every single night and he never needed a dental, osteosarcoma, multiple myeloma and spleen cancer). Last Thursday, his hind paws knuckled and he wouldn't eat, even when I handed him, which is something he just loved for me to do for him at the end. My life will never be the same, both because he was in my life and because he is no longer physically with me. We never get over losing them, and I, too, am afraid of letting another hound into my life, knowing how painful this is. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your remaining baby. And yes...greyhounds are the absolute best friends we can have.

I just buried my blue heeler. He was only 5.
That was terribly painful to go through. The vet said he had the highest white blood cell count she’d seen in 20 years.
She recommended we euthanize. It was Friday afternoon, and I just couldn’t do it. Took him home. He went straight up to my room and tried his best to jump on the bed. I lifted him up onto his favorite spot. He just wanted to be with me so bad.
He laid their in so much pain. His breath became very labored. He looked so scared. Breath became very intense, he gasped for air a few times, and then died while looking into my eyes.
I’ve never cried with such intensity. Cancer came from nowhere and took him.
I dug his grave in my backyard. Carrying his lifeless body to his grave. I stood in the grave with him. Holding his still warm body. Screaming. Whaling over him.
I gently set him on the ice cold dirt. His body rocked back and forth with each shovel of dirt. He slowly disappeared, as the dirt filled his grave.
I’ve never experienced the kind of love he had for me. He was obsessed with me in the most endearing way. Bearymore. His name was very fitting. Was so thick. Looked like a grey bear. He would always climb onto me, gently dig his claws into my shoulders, and then just pull himself into me. His favorite thing in the world was to snuggle me.
I miss him so badly. I just want my bear back. My sweet, fat, grumpy, beautiful beast.
I know what your feeling. It sucks. It isn’t fair. Life is beautiful. But it’s just a matter of time before tragedy strikes.
    Cherish what we have now.

Steph, last year, we just lost our beautiful adopted lab Dizz after 16 wonderful years. I am so, so sorry for your loss but as many people have said, it hurts because there is so much love there. Mac, like Dizz, will always live on every time you shed a tear or laugh about something goofy she did. I have a photo of her next to my wife's on my desk, and every morning, she gets a kiss and a good morning, and I think of something she would do. When our Dizz was nearing her end point, I had to take the same decision and I suspect, if you're anything like me, that part of you may be saying "I should have done it differently". But what you did is the ultimate act of love - you took her pain away from her even though it meant you having to suffer hardship yourself. It's awful and a year in for me, that morning kiss ends in tears still as often as it ends in smiles. But I hope that eventually you can see that you should be proud that right until the end you were Mac's best friend and the time you had her in retirement was orders of happiness beyond anything she could otherwise have expected. After our girl passed, we decided to adopt a greyhound (hence us finding you) called Finn, who, while he can never replace the spot in our hearts occupied by Dizz, occupies a huge spot of his own and is now the love of our lives. I really do wish you and Tosh smiles, laughter, and healing, and hope that Mac's memory remains a big part of your lives.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences. I don't have a greyhound yet, but I am in the process of adopting one and just as you mentioned in your post, I too am afraid of going through the same thing in the end. I have watched all of your posts during my research of greyhounds, and it has helped me make the decision to adopt one. You, Mac, and Tosh has been an inspiration not only to me, but many others for watching your posts. Mac will be deeply missed. You provided the best retirement for her!

I know. I didn't want to have to share it. But it's the reality. And Tosh is doing a greyt job taking care of me. And we have lots of greyhound friends to spend time with!

I put my 15 year old dog to sleep last august. I had her for 11 years. No way I could have made a video so soon after. Sorry for your loss.
