I'm gonna back track my position on the issue. I didn't know all the details and it was my error to cast an opinion before having a full picture. I know Will has been going through some tough stuff, and his highly publicized life, over amplifies any tribulation. I do not agree with acts of violence but I can empathize with a misstep in the face of great hardship. Honestly, I still love the man's work.
One thing we can all agree on, Chris handled the whole thing very professionally and it would seem that Rock has already forgiven Smith by not pressing charges.

I'm actually rather disappointed in Will. I understand protecting/defending your wife, but walking on stage, at the Oscar's, punching someone on national tv, and yelling obscenities from the audience is highly unprofessional. I would say that even the verbal lacing was a too much. The joke iteself was pretty bad but I really don't think Chris meant any real disrespect. One of the girls I knew in High School has alopecia. She was taking a shower at the age of 14 and whoosh....all of her hair just fell out! She thought all of her friends were going to leave her. All 3 of us (guys) bonded with her and she said it was so helpful having a group of guys who thought she was the best and "coolest chick" growing up. That was over 30 years ago and we are still friends.
I lost 99% of my hair by 21, just like 50 million other men in America, and hundreds of millions worldwide. Nobody cares for us men, though. We don't like our hair, I guess. Even though we do and are just forced to accept that nobody feels any sympathy for us.
Her and your story is nothing like theirs. Chris Rock only told a joke. Most the jokes are written by the show. Violence is NEVER okay.

Hollywood award ceremonies have had over the top distasteful comedy pointed and poked at the attendees for years. Everyone laughs it off, being 'polite.' But you can easily tell when they are awkward laughs. Biggest thing to point out, is that the Oscars are as much to blame as they can (and should) control these situations by either a) not choosing a comedian to be MC (logical choice there, or b) maybe choose an MC that is capable of comedy without dragging people through the dirt.
