    - KINGSLEY NORTH -
    Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

    I buy a lot of lapidary supplies from The Rock Shed. I don't make money from your purchases there, but they have good prices and good service. This is where I buy my finer grits and polish.

    I also have an Amazon storefront. This is where you can find other products you may have seen in my videos. As an Amazon Influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases. It doesn't cost you extra.

    So I have ALWAYS loved rocks and recently my dearest friend, who also shared my seemingly mundane hobby of collecting neat rocks, passed away. I think part of my grieving process has been getting back into my love for rocks, and that lead me to your channel. Just wanted to show you some love and thank you for all the information and tips you’ve shared (I just started tumbling again, which I did in my youth); your vids have brought me a lot of smiles and comfort while I deal with everything, as well as some great education and knowledge! Looking forwards to seeing more, and if I’m ever in your area I’d love to go on a joint rock hunt! Stay blessed and rock on!

    I'm heading that way in the middle of May and was wondering if there is somewhere reasonable to park just south of where the river drains into the lake.

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  Před 3 měsíci

      There's a place that's called Perry's Landing, although it's not marked that way. It's very close to the Lake Superior State Forest Campground. There's also a big parking lot at Vermillion Point. The spot I parked isn't too bad either. If you have a car with reasonable clearance (not a Corvette) you should be fine going down the road. It's not marked, but just look for the road that's closest to the mouth of the river. It has a pretty wide entrance, but is basically a two-track.

    • @MichiganRocks

      There are arrowheads found in Michigan, but I haven't found any. I think the beaches would beat them up and round them off, so it's probably not the best place to look.

      In the eastern U.P. anything between Grand Marais and Whitefish Point is usually good. In the Keweenaw, I like Gratiot Park, Calumet Waterworks Park, Mclain State Park, and Great Sand Bay.

    HI Rob. can you recommend a Dremel bit that is good for hanging pendant etc? I got some junk from Amazon and they skip all over and then the coating wears off fast. love your channel, you got me into the hobby! cheers.

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I don't use a Dremel much at all. I use one in the drill press attachment for drilling 1 mm holes. I have another that I use for buffing Petoskey stones with Zam and for roughing up polished surfaces that I intend to glue together. That's about it. I really wouldn't have enough experience with anything else to know what to recommend.

    Hey Rob, we're traveling and in Missouri, and I've found some stone that may be banded chert. How would one know for sure?

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  Před 3 měsíci

      They have a rock there called Mozarkite that is a type of chert. I know there's a lot of other chert found there too. Chert had conchoidal fractures and that's one way to help identify it. Have you ever seen a really thick piece of glass that is chipped? It chips in a roundish shape, that can look sort of like a seashell. That's conchoidal fracturing.

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  Před 3 měsíci

      @@robertrayle2399 Rockport Quarry near Alpena is great for fossils. The quarry is good, so is the beach, which is different in each direction. Then there are sinkholes behind the quarry. You could spend a whole day there.
      For agates, any beach between Grand Marias, MI and Whitefish point is good.
