- Today on the new By Blood Alone dlc for Hearts of Iron 4. I'll be playing as a new tiny HOI4 nation which appears to be ridiculously overpowered - the Kingdom of Aussa!

I made the first yt vid on Aussa and was able to core all of Ethiopia
It is kind of ironic that the Sultanate of Aussa has a bigger focus tree than the previous Italian focus tree
well they did help the axis more then italy
yeah but that's kind of a low bar at this point in hoi4's development.
So this tiny insignificant nation gets a focus tree but Austria doesn’t because “they get eaten by Germany too quickly”?
That focus tree is kinda like the Chinese warlords focus tree. Not a generic focus tree, but every nation that gets released in this area of africa has that focus tree. And it's a pretty nice tree.
It's why if you play as Ethiopia and go non-aligned, ABSOLUTELY take the focus to balkanize your country as all the states you create get that focus tree. Which means they all pop out infrastructure and factories like crazy before you pull everyone back in.
You should make sure you can pick up the Horn of Africa focus before you Balkanize. I'd also like to note that it takes a LONG time to min-max that. It took me until 1944 ish for them to finish all of their factory focuses + urbanization.
@@Pulstar232 It's mostly just keeping tabs on their focuses and their own state development. Even just letting them sit there for a year or 2 gives you waaaayy more industry then you can realistically pump out yourself in 4 years. Sometimes the AI just beelines the correct focuses and you can pull them back in ASAP and sometimes you got that one guy who just focuses the army tree and you're tearing your hair out.
@@Bread-kun if they do all their factory focuses they actually give you around 100 factories, which was enough for me to usurp China as faction leader(because after the war UK kicked me out because the only way to join was to justify). But I was in the faction long enough to get the Brussels Treaty. Which mean that I could turn the Chinese United Front into NATO.

I have hoi4 but never tried playing it again since I sucked, but that sounds nice.
@@Pulstar232 I mean realistically even if you took that focus, then sat there and just spammed all the decisions ASAP and reintergrated ASAP, you'd still get a ridiculous amount of industry. At least 20-30 civs very quickly.
I legitimately don't know how PDX thought that side of the focus tree when the more cetnralized side gives you. Like +5% construction speed or something and that's it in comparison.
I love the idea of the allies being ok with some random african tribe taking half of the Kriegsmarine after the war

I'd like to think that they recognize that their resistance contributed to Italy's defeat and also kept pressure off the European theater. Or you could roleplay it as the allies sending them the fleet they desired for some reason so they have a friendly country to help keep order in the region.
@@methuselah8885 I think "keeping pressure off the West" is low balling it, since I'm pretty sure the Italians dedicated like half of their army, the Germans sent 1/7th or so of their armor brigades and Romania for some reason sent a quarter of their army over. That's not "keeping pressure off", that's a major contribution to the war effort.
Tribe? It's literally called a Sultanate in the game... They are far from a tribe my dude.
Communist Aussa is fairly easy, especially with ideological loyalty to deal with manpower. Also to get guns from Mongolia/Tannu Tuva to spend more time on artillery.
Other than that, everything was working quite well.
so basically its like most actual communist nations at the time, ask mr stalin for some more free stuff.

I like how Alex is mad at the AI for being competent because he just wants to paradrop and naval invade.
its more so that the ai is almost bipolar in the sense that it is incompetent when it hurts you but genius when its also to your detriment.
the ai will deny you something you wanted so much but is too stupid to defend the lands you helped them take.
Getting denied cities by the AI is incredibly annoying. Unless it's happening to someone else, then it's hilarious 🤣

I recently read that this focus tree is shared by all releasable Ethiopian nations. So giving a nation which is not playable right at the start a - kinda- unique focus tree let's me hope that we one day may get an Egyptian focus tree which you can play when you release Egypt.
Honestly I hope they just make a sequel to their hearts of iron cold war game so we could get great trees for places like egypt and somalia.
Not only is it an already established paradox title, but the hearts of iron side series would have more room for unique focus trees than the main games.
Why is he doing better as this nation then as Ethiopia?
This nation has no nerf to entrenchment and a single mountain capital

Ethiopias decision that basically spits out a half dozen countries each use that tree.
It’s super nice since all those countries build themselves up like crazy via this focus tree, the. You annex them back and get all of it for yourself

Truly enjoy these longer video! I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but the story of the video is much more enthralling and enjoyable (regardless of the outcome of the gameplay lol)
You didn't "own" the province. It's a bit weird with how the game says it, but how it works is that when you occupy the province, you control it. You don't become the owner of it unless you take it in a peace deal

When bba came out i immediately played aussa and got to say i got way furtjer than alex i did some of the focuses which give troops and then i immediately invaded ethiopia (we had already won the ethiopian war) and since they disbanded the chitet and i now had a huge army they were easy to beat and i had cores on some Ethiopian states with my focus tree i adventually cores the rest and annexed ethiopia befote ww2 started and i invaded italy

In my run through with assua I managed to get 64K dead for my side and 879K Italians deal along with 120K Germans 8K Slovakians and 18K Romanians
Funnily enough I’ve found the opposite with both Chang Kai Shek and Josef Stalin eating rocks every time

Paradox definitely did a lot of good with this DLC but it feels incredibly unfinished. For example, the Soviet unions national focus tree still has old plane research options as focuses, or even Italy, a lot of their "___ has joined _______ faction" news that appears for players seems completely bugged to where neither faction, nor country name appears.
I really hope they work on fixing the stuff they've broken rather than pumping out more DLC, at least for a while, until its back to its prior quality of gameplay.

I once played Aussa recently, i can't exactly remember why but i know it's either because, im bored af, intrusive thoughts, curiosity, or straight up just 'cuz. I still remember when it had a bigger focus tree than italy. I still laugh at that.

Good video. Made me laugh. :-) I've also been a bit confused by some of their new mechanics. Half the time, my air wings simply refuse to replace their losses. I don't know why, when I have lots of replacements. I end up having to train up a new air wing and disband the old one. When I saw your 92/100 Transport air wing, it reminded me of that.

Aussa's focus tree is shared with all other tags that make up Ethiopia. That can be seen when Ethiopia balkanizes itself with the "A Federal Empire" focus.

i actually went ahead and played it before i even tried italy or ethiopia and it was pretty funny
somehow, despite winning the war, rambler still managed to make a classic rambler fail
all the break away states have this tree
I'm guessing the focus didn't work because you needed to own a coastal state after a peace deal, rather than just controlling it at war
Alex angered the AI by surviving as Aussa, he already beat the Italians in Eritrea so they wouldn’t allow him to accomplish anymore of his goals.

The Hoi4 devs seem to be putting a lot of effort when it comes to adding and fleshing out a lot of content. Now only if eu4 was the same
Completely ignoring the new dlc that reworked all idea groups, added a fuckton of government reforms for everyone, reworked combat, and added for the first time ever coop mission trees. Seriously eu4 does not care at all
