- Georgian protesters called on the government to withdraw its controversial "foreign agents" bill, which would require organizations with foreign funding to register their activities. For a third straight day, thousands rallied on April 17 outside parliament, which was surrounded by police.

My understanding is that the US has something similar.
This is not about the similarity, this is about Russia infiltrating into Georgian politics to close any loopholes and preventing Georgia to move closer to the EU.
The bill allows Russia to directly intervene with Georgia´s EU ambitions.
