He was a first rate conductor. I hate to argue with you, but I really like this performance -- I guess I've found others a bit mannered for my taste. But then, you know the old saying (De gustibus...)

Coates excelled at music by the Russian masters and by Wagner. His LSO recordings of any material from this repertoire are worth getting.
