- There's one particular car that gets the juices of Subaru fan boys bubbling and that is a 2 Door STI. Not to be confused with the highly collectable and way more expensive 22B, this Version 5 STI is the newest addition to the Mighty Car Mods Garage, it's far from perfect, which makes it perfect to modify! Today we take it for a test drive around the track.

you must know nothing about cars because subaru has some of the best automotive engineering to date world wide.. ive driven a 1997 outback legacy wagon 5 speed with well over 300,000 miles on it when i lost an exhaust valve merging onto the freeway.. (my fault as i dumped a ton of octane booster in it as a test) One i pulled over to check her out, i unplugged the injector with the problem and carried on my way.. for 5,000 more miles until i finally parked it and repaired it.. I also traveled coast to coast with the same car... SO IN YOUR CASE IT WAS "USER ERROR"..... SUBARU FOR LIFE>>> THEY ARE THE BEST EVER>>>>>> If you take care of your stuff it will take care of you.. KNOW YOUR ENGINE IN AND OUT before you spit nasty crap about subaru..

888johnmac real cars actually. Are you shocked about my story? That’s why I back Subaru pretty strong. I’ve put them and few others ive owned through the years through the ringer. You can find video all day online of Subaru’s being put through the ringer. I’m just glad now y’all know a 2.5 liter boxer will run fine with only 3 cylinders holding compression and firing. Are you jaw dropped? Can’t do that with a FORD! Lol. And yes I put 5,000 more freeway and city miles on it and lived in it for 2 months. Amazingly practical. A modern day survivalists dream. All while sounding like a 25 hp lawn tractor. Lol. And top speed about 75. That’s if you can knock off all the mud and clay from all the mud bogging you can do too. Heh ... although if ur livin in it, then of coarse you gotta get off grid and dog leg into the woods to find camp and hide for the night to stay safe while you rest. You can do that with a Subaru.

@Benis I'm pretty sure Bunta actually had a 22B in the series. Keep in mind his AE86 also had an official track racing engine that wasn't legal for street use so he most likely had access to other high end cars/parts associated with official racing.
Had five of these cars. 1998 Turbo 2000 5 door. 2001 (Bugeye) WRX. 2003 (Blobeye) STI Type UK, 345 bhp. Bug Eye WRX Japanese import. And lastly WRX STI Type R Version 5, fully forged and rapid!! Love em.
Great to see this legend here.

Absolutely loves these cars! I have an 01 Impreza sedan with a 2.2l ej22 engine and I love it. Needs some repairs but it’s the most reliable car I have ever owned and drives amazing.
I've had like 5 GC chassis cars now and we've had more in the family. Just maintain them and they are reliable and a joy to drive. The EJ22 is particularly bulletproof. If you ever sell it, only sell it to me. 😂
Finally a 2 door sti has come to mcm. Been waiting for this for a while.
Bestill my beating heart! A Brant alarm! I thought everyone had removed them by now. I had one in an 03 WRX and it caused so much misery and pain. I would fill it with petrol and it would REFUSE to start.
Same thing with my 06 but either at full noise on the highway or mid corner 😬
I remember Rexnet had diy for removing them lol
You’re not supposed to fill alarms with petrol, that’s where you were going wrong......
@@Greasynutts I remember using that on my MY00 GC8. I was so glad to get rid of it.
I guess every country has their own version of the terrible after-market alarm. In the UK it was Clifford alarms and they were so sensitive that every time the wind blew in the early 2000's you could tell which direction it was coming from by using your ears alone.
They were so overly sensitive that they basically made car alarms redundant, they would go off so regularly for no reason that people just stopped paying attention.
That dam immobilizer. I remember when my brother first got his, he let me have a go if it and we did this exact thing. The memory just came back
I grow up watching this kind of cars with Richard Burns, Colin McRae, Tommy Makinen, Carlos Sainz etc rallying in the acropolis wrc when I was a teen. For sure this was the best era of rallying after the group B. This Subaru was my favorite. I am not a fan of japanese cars but I envy this one!

I've got a similar alarm system in my Bugeye WRX Wagon. The code switch dies after a few years, they're cheap metal domes that fatigue and break.
What's even better is taking it to a garage and explaining how the system works. You can guarantee that 10 minutes later the alarm will be going off and you'll have to go back and sort it out. It does make MOT's very fun.
I went on to Carsales AU and looked at the listings, this thing goes for around 85k AUD which = ~56k USD.
I'm so glad you guys are doing this so people can see it!!!!!!!!!
Arm and a leg. Haha.
When my dad was in Japan in the early 2000s, they literally couldn't sell these things at auction no one wanted one, he specifically remembers one of the auctioneers doing doughnuts in one on the wharf.
My uncle worked at a Subaru dealer in the 90’s, and he had the same experience but with the 2.5rs here in the USA. The story would go some couple would come in, ask to drive a top of the line Impreza, complain about rearward visibility because of the wing, and then leave in a legacy.
Curtis Lovrak thats because the 2.5RS was crap lol
That’s weird because people often say that the STi was nearly impossible to get hold of because they all sold out so fast?

@Mighty Car Mods. I had a 99 Impreza Turbo 2000 (UK) a few years back. The immobiliser did the exact same thing and left me stranded a few times. The last time I had to get towed. I got an auto electrician to take it all out. He also told me that instead them of being fitted, standardised, by electricians it was often done by mechanics when the cars arrived in country, so could have extra 'features'. My particular one also had additional shenanigans fitted to the fuel pump working with the immobiliser. So be prepared for that. Good luck and enjoy it, one of my favourite cars to own

Close door, put seat belt on, turn key to ignition, press code, check engine light should light up, start car. From memory thats how you start the brant alarm. If you open door and take seat belt off while engine is running it goes into hijack mode. Best to turn engine off first before getting out.

Why does he keep saying that?!? 🤣🤣 He has a Evo 9
That would seriously tick me off keep cutting the engine off 😂 great looking car for 22 years old 👍
I've already lost count of just how many blue cars Marty has owned 😂
The old dealership-installed Brant alarm system! Had one in my old gen 3 twin turbo Liberty B4. To make it work in your instance, you had to close all doors, lock the car, unlock the car, put the key in and turn to ignition THEN put the code in. It was a fine art learning how it worked but didn't waste much time once you get the hang of it!
Aussies are so lucky, we never got this model in the US, the closest thing we got was the 2.5rs which most people that get them just swap it with 2004-05 sti internals and drivetrain, which makes them just as fun as the Jdm sti’s

The anti-theft module is underneath the dash on the drivers side closest to the door. Literally just cut it out. Then when the immobilizer is triggered, connect the two leads that used to go to the anti-theft module, and while holding them together, turn the ignition to accessory, then to off. The gauge cluster should flash three times is the distinct "tick-a, tick-a, tick-a" of a relay. Disconnect the leads and turn the ignition to on.
Finally! We didn't get the STI in the states and we still have to wait 3 more years till someone can even import a 22B. Love this car.

I’ve heard many horror stories but have had zero issues with the Brant alarm on my 06 STI.
I'm guessing cause newer alarms are better. Old 90s alarms suck. Subaru UK used Sigma alarms during the 90s. Overhead power lines, aerials, etc would interfere with them. You had to push the car away from them to be able to get your car started.
Luckily, in the US, wasn't much a problem with Subarus being stolen, so Subaru of America didn't install alarm systems in the cars. Same with Subaru of Japan. No alarms.
you should install the 22B style wide bodykit, ik you normally don't do bodykits but this one just deserves it, it deserves to be T-H-I-C-C

I sold my wide body Type R last year to a company who raffled it off as a prize. It was amazing only 34k miles on the chassis but a forged engine pushing out 420hp with the 6 speed box. Interior was unmarked and it had the Lamco gauge set and boost pod... It was mental.
