Man, something about John singing that opening part ("Whoah, yeah yeah") by himself is just so melancholy and sad sounding. On the album version he dubbed it by singing it several times over, but just one voice alone makes it sound so much sadder, like a lonely defeated voice. Combined with the chords playing behind him, this version of the song is just so achy and sad. Really powerful and such an underrated song.

The dude couldn't understand the message of the song (cause he doesn't know English), how much the song and the band means to me, and how heartbroken I was feeling at that time.
