And I mean, it's not only Josh's fault (And no, I'm no Josh-hater, I've always liked his voice and style in his other works), Anthony is not aging well at all (vocally speaking) and he was never that great (Frusciante did help him a lot in with his perfect harmonies), so for me they're really a shadow of what they were. I'm a fan since 2000 and it really makes me sad watching Flea and Chad making that big of an effort to compensate their bandmate's current lack of virtuosity :( The only good thing is they're playing older songs now

There’s a reason there’s 2 solos in this song, there’s a reason the solos go the way they do. Johns solos MAKE Strip My Mind. I’m excited to see John take back his work and make more with these guys.

He played with them before John even left. If you watch some of the performances from the live 8 show, there's Josh in the background doing harmonies and rhythm guitar. He also played on a few of Frusciantes solo albums, those two are like best friends. I think he left cause he was tired of being in a big rock band and just wants to fly more under the radar and work on more experimental, electronicy stuff.
John and Josh don't talk anymore. John has done everything possible to distance himself from RHCP. And you are partially right with the reason he quit; he quit because he didn't want to continue making music for commercial purposes. He'd rather be an underground dude which I respect. And he departed on an amazing note with Stadium Arcadium.
