Well done. I'm originally from kilmacow in kilkenny. My dad used to build his own machines out of other yuks 😁.... he would be well fascinated by this if he was still around. Fair play
Just maybe the video man could only come and shoot that video on Saturday morning. And just maybe the lads obliged him by leaving a couple of loads in the field so he could get the video. 🤫😉 The boys are good but cant stop the weather unfortunately...
You took the words out of my mouth, that’s a lot of time & effort to end up with a unit which still has limited output. The price of the Mengele alone would go along way towards buying a decent 840 or 860, not to mention the price of the 5830 on top of that again, and by the looks of their other equipment they’d be well placed to keep grass away from a bigger harvester. Interesting to find out what the total price of the machine was after the conversion. Only downside to a bigger self propelled machine though for a farmer or 2/3 farmers doing their own work is the potential for having to pay big money for parts as they can be quite expensive to maintain with genuine parts. As the owner of an 860 I can more than vouch for that!!€€😫. That said, it’s nice to be able to blast 70/80 acres out of it in a day when the forecast is bad☔️
More to it than that, the coffin box mechanism on the 5830 which transferred the grass from the chopping drum to the blower weren’t exactly the most reliable and tended to be troublesome. As the man himself said, they were happy with the mengele harvester, all they needed was the power from the 5830. They’re probably getting as much if not more output from this combination as they would have from the original 5830 anyway. Top class engineering to be fair, these guys know their stuff
Ford made tanks and fighters, Mitsubishi annd BMW made fighters, Mercedes and Rolls Royce made bombers, Steyr were built in an underground factory that used to make V1 rockets. No one is innocent. No one
What a misinformed comment. Why some people feel the need to show their stupidity on a public forum I can never understand. If you auctual listen to the man he explains why they done it! And if you knew anything about the coffin box setup on those old JD you might realise how he has dramatically improved the machine.
Always good to see farmers inventions and conversations money saved is always a bonus 👌
Great engineering Geoff as always, hope you and all the family are keeping well and safe,
I love these function over form contraptions, this is a very lovely piece of kit indeed!

Nice bit of a set up 👍
Well done lads and that took time to do it and patients 🖒🖒
fair play to you, well thought out conversion, keep it greased and you will never look back
Great setup - the Mengele SH40N was a great machine
Best things come from men in sheds!
Mengele in Kilkenny!
Does Shimon Wiesenthal know?
Great bit of engineering. Some satisfaction in doing something like that. Can't beat it
Great video but why the trailer so far away from chopper... very clever set up.
Nice machine Great setup
Top Class Engineering
Love it
Great machine I witnessed it working
Great vid loads better than watching the same footage of mega money machines. Dose what it says on the tin
Nice machine
Well done 😊
Is there any advantage a trailed machine would lift the same amount. plus you can use the tractor the rest of the year
Yap save a good drop of diesel and driver ... a balls of a thing...😦
What happens to all the grass that doesn’t make it into the trailer
It goes to grass heaven
good out fit
Is there a dryer on the harvester or do they usually cut they’re silage in shite in the spills of rain
What on earth are you bullshitting about? Drying silage?

Good job but a silage wagon would be idea for this set up

One guy doing nearly 400 acres with a single wagon? Wise up!
He does put 400 acres of silage in
@@jonathanwaugh5216 i know, what on earth are you bullshitting about
Nice to make your own machine but wouldn't of it been a lot easier to buy a harvester like a class 840 or something like that away less hassle
