    1) i feel she knew her worth and asked for whatever she deserved in male dominated industry back then..... She was outspoken and aware of the love public had for her..... So obviously male composers must have been bitter about it..... But how is it her fault that movie producers wanted only her to sing for their movies???
    2) i understand the frustration of her female compititors and its surprising how no one questiones when kishore kumar, udit narayan, arijit were/are dominating the industry
    3) personally, i like Asha's voice and songs more so would have appreciated if there was variety in female playback singers during that era

Until A.R. Rahman came and introduced a lot of singers to the industry, music directors were just repeating one or two singers for every era. Our people had such formulaic, herd mentality. The 50s, 60s and even the 70s predominantly belonged to Lata and Asha and that too Lata was reserved for the heroines and Asha for dance numbers. The 80s and 90s saw the likes of Anuradha Paudwal, Sadhana Sargam and Alka Yagnik sing for the leading ladies. Poornima and Hema Sardesai got very few songs, thanks to Anu Malik who thought a bit out of the box at least. The 2000s and 10s still had Sunidhi Chowhan and Shreya Ghoshal in the lead, but thankfully, the music industry turned into an even playing field in more recent years with innumerable number of singers getting opportunities to show case their talent, thanks to Rahman and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

    • @hello.667
      @hello.667 Před 24 dny +30

@@drfeelgood7886 Arijit is only singing 1 or no song in movies. He has 1 song in Animal and no song in sam bahadur .Other songs are sung by other singers.
While an old singer used to sing all 8-10 songs alone. That's why Lata Mangeshkar has 30000 songs, Mohammed Rafi sung 10000 songs, Kumar Sanu sang 5000 songs. But Arijit has only sung less than 900 songs in past 14 years.
Arijit has now become more selectivve. He is just singing 2-3 songs in a month because now he is selecting best compositions with best lyrics like vida karo, terr hawaale, moh na laage.
Talking about Arijit's clones , it is not his problem. There are many Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar clones available too.
Kishore Kumar clones - Kumar Sanu ,Amit Kumar, Abhijeet Bhattacharya
Lata Mangeshkar clones - Alka Yagnik, Suman Kalyanpur, Sadhana Sargam.
Many Arijit's clones have slightly similar vocal texture but they can't copy his vocal abilties. For example , Darshan Raval has little similar vocal texture but he can't sing classical and all types of songs like Arijit. Darshan can't sing binte dil song of Arijit. I am not hating on Darshan .I am only writing truth.
Popularity of Arijit in 21th century is like Kishore Kumar was in 20th century. That's why both singers have some clones.
Fun fact : Arijit was born in 1987 i.e. the same year in which Kishore Kumar died.
Only one reason why some buddhas have problem with Arijit : Because he is a singer of this generation who is better and more successful than most singers of their old generation . They can't get nostalgia after listening him because he is not their childhood singer. Ego of buddhas get hurt whenever they hear the name of Arijit.

    • @hello.667
      @hello.667 Před 24 dny +14

True. There were monopoly among singers in old times. There was no internet so people didn't knew about many talented artists. Only connections with bollywood people were mattered in old times.
We all know about monopoly of Kumar Sanu in 90's. By singing same type of simple flat slow repetitive romantic songs and copying Kishore Kumar from nose, he became the king of 90's music and continously won 5 filmfare awards. He sang 28 songs in 1 day due to monopoly in music industry in 90's. Has this so called melody king has sung anything other than 'hey hey la la' in his whole career?
If internet was available at that time, then Kishore Kumar and Kumar Sanu also would have got many negative comments like Arijit. The problem with Arijit that he is unnecessarily hated by some haraami nostalgia merchants due to availability of social media. Different people have different opinions now on popular artists. Now anybody can talk about popular artists while sitting from their home.

@@hello.667 buddy i can understand you’re a Arijit fan bouy. But by saying Arijit’s name I don’t mean he’s singing in every film or doing 10 songs a film. Obviously you cannot compare with yesteryear’s musicians/film stars.
But you’ll see in most of the big budget films there’ll be an Arijit number with formulated music tune which has a greater probability of becoming a hit. Music directors/ producers either want Arijit or Arijit sounding clones. These are not my words, there are plenty interviews by senior musicians on YT.
Despite so many fans, in last few years we barely got to hear Late KK, Shaan, Sonu Nigam , Kunal Ganjawala, Mohit Chauhan. It’s not a rocket science to understand, more than art / faith in the artist, producers n record labels are following the market trajectories n economics. 😛

You said that I can't compare rijit with yesteryear's musicians? film stars. What a stereotypical and cheap thinking you have ! Shame on you buddhe. Arijit is new generation singer but it doesn't mean that he can't be better than any yesteryear's musician.
You have written that musicians want Arijit's clones. But it was similar in 90's Musicians wanted Rafi and Kishore clones that's why Kumar Sanu (Kishore clone) ,Sonu Nigam (Rafi clone) and Alka Yagnik (Lata ji clone) became popular in 90's. You buddhas have too much ghamand for everything of their generation. You can't accept if something of this generation is better than most of your generation.
Mohit ,Shaan, KK etc stopped getting work in 2010's decade because they don't have versatility and singing style like Arijit. They became outdated and irrelavent for modern generation just like Mohammed Aziz and Amit Kumar were outdated in 90's generation. It is just a game of time ,nothing else.
Watch Sonu Nigam's interviews. Nowadays he is praising Arijit in his every new interview. He rated himself 5 and Arijit 7.

In the first place, why is this video made after Latajis's death? It's not fair when an artist who is virtually revered by all Indians including the Prime Minister of the country, should be shown as a controversial one. What you should acknowledge today is the vast collection of songs that she has left behind for all the students of music and musical orchestra singers for their livelihood. All the Musical Orchestra sustain only on the popular songs of her time which people love to hear even today. To blame her for singing maximum songs during her prime was not in her hands, it was the job of the music directors. Why this 'Only Lata' question not asked to any Music Director instead? Likewise Music Director Naushad always took Mohamed Rafi only as a male voice in all his songs, did anyone question that? So stop creating all this controversy now and keep listening to the golden voice which will never be born again.

Her voice however beautiful it may be, always sounded like coming from an eloquent lady, not from a young beauty between 18-24 years old. Which created a dissonance. It suited the female characters of the 60s-80s, but with movies as the age of the female actresses dropped, the voice needed to be changed. For example, Shreya Ghoshal has a forever youthful voice, but still, for a younger, sultry character or wanting a rawer, huskier voice you have the talents of Shilpa Rao, Shalmali Kholgade and Parampara Tandon. The songs they sang would not have worked with Shreya Ghoshal's voice. Sunidi Chauhan is truly a more versatile singer but even she has limitations.

The same happened with Yesudas the singer of the south... After 85-86 his voice started sounding funny due to excessive stretching of vocal chords for his carnatic concerts...He too had pulled down a lot of vocal talents in the film industry and had become more of a business man rather than an authentic artist of his genre... He had even criticised and suggested that Lata ji stops singing coz she started sounding funny but perhaps its karma or something, the next year of his criticism on Lata , his voice too started sounding weird...But at the same time we cant ignore their precious contribution to Indian film music ❤

The video is good but the part where you mention about Lata ji ruining 90s songs is just plain rubbish. My grandparents, parents and my whole family have been fans of her music and people who grew up listening to Lata ji would never agree with this above statement. She was already in her 60s in the 1990s but her popularity was still there. I remember my aunt who was in her 20s in the 1990s saying her favourite song was "jab se mile naina" from film "love letter" (1992). See, a woman in her early 20s grooving to the song sung by a 63 year old woman is just amazing! Moreover, the songs of HAHK (1994) were so popular upon its release that filmfare awarded Lata ji a special award (since she had already given up best singer award in 1970). She also let others grow in the 90s by singing less songs, which is evident from the fact that we see other singers like Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy etc. The Soundtrack album of DDLJ (1995) is one of the best selling albums of all time in India. If people of that time felt disconnected with Lata ji's voice, the album would have failed. Not only in Hindi but Lata ji was making her debut in Indonesian dangdut music in the 90s. Such was her voice's freshness. People commenting about her ruining 90s songs are either people who are jealous of her illustrious career or people who cant connect with her music.

That is your personal opinion. But Arijit has better voice and versatility than those monotonous old singers. He knows how to make listeners feel the song. He is known as king of soulful voice. You can search on google. Listen to 'main phir bhi tumko chahunga' and 'uska hi banana' songs. These are legendary songs by him.
Monotonous nasal overrated copycat Kumar Sanu established monopoly in 90's. We all know the monopoly of Shor Kumar in 70's. Arijit has better voice. Arijit is most versatile singer and he has sung all types of songs from classical (gaaytri mantra jaap), arabic (binte dil), retro (main parwana) to pop (shanivaar raati), western (chain of thoughts).
Music directors are choosing Arijit because he did justice to every kind of song and he has most heart touching voice ever. Listen to 'vida karo' and 'main parwana' song it feels like Mohammed Rafi is singing. Listen to 'sajde' song it feels like Nusrat Fateh sahab is singing. Listen to 'Rishton ke saare manzar' song to feel Ghulam Ali vibe. Arijit was sounding like an arabic singer in 'binte dil' song.
Listen to his new song 'satyanaas'. It is a fun track. Will you believe that he is the same singer who sang 'vida kar' song recently?
Even Sonu Nigam gave Arijit more rating than himself. There is a reason for it.

She had said that she doesn't want to get another life and if she gets one she don't want to be lata mangeshkar again...we can't even imagine the struggle, the hardwork, the pain she has gone throughout her life, career...
And yes Alka Yagnik,Shreya Ghosal, Anuradha Paudwal, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sadhna Sargam and many more are also gems at their own place...
All have their own ups and downs, struggle , success, identity and not because of anyone else but because of their own talent...

cassette and vinyl sale would also be another reason. If i am not wrong back in the day these sales act as a secondary or parallel income by which movies which flopped also could make some money back. Having lata mangeshkar on the song, who is widely know (by that time) and established might help them sell it. Kind of optimising the factors. But then again the question becomes then y didn't we see similar situation with male singers?

My grandmother came from a family of musicians; she was also a very good singer and would sing for me. At that time, I wasn't aware of music or had any knowledge about it, but it felt satisfying and made me happy. However, when I hear songs composed by Salil Chowdhury and sung by Lata Mangeshkar, it gives me another level of peace and touches my soul even today. I don't know what the connection is between those songs and me; sometimes it feels like it's from a previous life.

But, but, what is she going to do with all that millions she earned? She hasn't taken a penny with her to the grave. She doesn't have a family of her own who could inherit all that wealth. So what was the point of being so greedy?
