I had a ruger m77 mark2 target model in .243. It was the first rifle I ever bought. It loved 85 grain hollow points from Winchester. Another gun I had to sell that I wish I had. Its probably the most accurate one I ever had
Checked with the Remington webpage and they only have the new Core Lokt Copper in about 5 maybe 6 cartridge sizes....they say more to come....I'd like to see it in a 6.5 Creedmoor at a 120 gr offering. Thanks WTW!!
Am I the only one who is singing along with the theme song at the end? Awesome vid of both the cartridge performance and the rifles. Winner, winner, venison dinner.
Great video. Love those Weatherby Vanguards. With the ammo it likes you can have the proverbial tack drivers. What is the purpose for these HPs, deer or varmints?
@WHOTEEWHO recently heard Ron Spomer advising to clean the bore to metal, all fouling gone, then foul only with solid copper and only use copper, apparently really helps grouping.
I've never shot copper bullets but I think on his targets both guns shot better groups with a warm barrel. Did he clean it the barrel between the first & second groups or did I mistook the groups.
You need to get a Garmin Chronograph. It would be nice to see velocities on all these ammo testing videos you do. Your going to need one anyways when you start getting deep into reloading.
As long as a company gets their copper alloy right, and designs a proper tip cavity to assure reliable expansion, they'll have a good bullet. There's already some good coppers being made by other companies, and I have a feeling over the next 10 years almost every company is going to have copper bullet offerings on par with Barnes' bullets. In my mind, Hammer makes the best copper bullet at the moment, but you sure as heck can't go wrong with Barnes. 👍
I have a Remington 742 Woodmaster that I shoot an 85 gr HPBT from Federal. They don't make anymore. Have been looking for some other 85 gr ammo. Thank you for showing me that Remington has come out with an 85 gr HP bullet. I will have to pick up a box and see if my 742 likes it
How does that 742 cycle in .243? I had one in .308 that I never had trouble with but stupidly sold, now searching for another one (or a 7400 .308). I have heard most the issues happen with the long actions
Sierra 85 grain bthp game king is a very accurate and work from groundhogs to whitetail. Handloads of course. 70 grain tns if you like pint misting varmints. 👍 👍 👍
An excellent physics presentation! Besides for long range properties, I was under the impression that the "new" high B/C cartridges were to allow the copper bullets to shoot well. That may be true for .277 and above. But for the 6mm .243, that does not seem to hold true. This may mean a whole new line of investagational research and data collection by Who Tee Who! At some point, we should see a book published, "The plain truth of bullet physics," by Who Tee Who.
Higher BC doesn't assure accuracy, nor is it a measure of accuracy. Precise manufacturing and consistency from bullet to bullet is a bigger factor. No matter the bullet design or its BC. However, that is one benefit copper bullets have is that it's a mono metal design, so there are no inconsistencies such as jacket thickness, core inconsistencies, imbalances, etc. that traditional cup and core bullets can (usually rarely) have. With that said, there's no guarantee any given gun will shoot coppers better than any other bullet either. It still comes down to what it likes to shoot, but coppers generally do tend to be highly consistent from bullet to bullet and batch to batch.
Glad to see you give the 243 some love. As much as I love modern guns it is hard to beat some wood and blue steel. There you go shooting sub 1 inch groups with 2 different guns same ammo. Great video
I’m getting to the point that I actually look forward to your videos. I’ve taught marksmanship skills in the Marines once upon a time. I must say, I never noticed your trigger finger flexing before - but I certainly noticed it on this video. It reminded me of a batter stepping into the batter-box and taking his preparatory swings. Tell me, Adam, is that what you’re doing by fingering the trigger before settling in to shoot?
Nice shooting Who Tee, the Howa/Wetherby is a beautiful example of Gen I Vanguard. The trashy looking Howa being newer and CNC manufactured will naturally shoot better, however I'd prefer the Vanguard any day. As for the copper bullets, it's all about $$$$.
Yes the Weatherby vanguard is a howa 1500 barreled action, if you look at the side of your vanguard it says “howa 1500” on the action. Howa supplies the barreled actions and Weatherby puts it in a stock, that’s how they get the cost down to such an affordable level.
That Weatherby is one heck of a rifle! I'd be afraid to take it out in the woods because it might get scratched up or something. Anyone who says the 243 is too small for deer should try this copper bullet ammo. These bullets expand reliably and are deep penetrators, effective on larger game. Plus they are California legal.
Actually ""WTW"" - You stated that backwards, the Howa is NOT a Weatherby,,, BUT the Weatherby is a HOWA - for years Howa made the Weatherby action & barrel,,, until Sako of Maine started making the Weatherby's,,, just thought you might like to know that. And now Weatherby is once again making there own stuff,,, just like Roy always wanted it to be... ""WTW"" - what would be REALLY COOL,,, is to see you compare the 338 Win mag, 338 Federal, 338 Weatherby, 338 Lapua - against the 338-378 Weatherby,,, even if it was just on paper (the ballistics).
Maybe you noticed the warmer barrel did better for both rifles. I have experienced that with copper bullets because they don't compress like lead/copper jacket bull-lots. So I think as the barrel warms and swells the copper loads perform better.
Wondering if you clean the rifles before switching to the copper bullets. Lot of websites say that when you switch you have to clean to bare metal before starting. Is that maybe why your first group with both rifles was larger than the second groups? Another great video
Watch out! WHO_TEE_WHO's shootin' the lights out again! Good shootin' as always, Adam. 👍 I continue to be impressed with the ammo Remington seems to be putting out these days. It appears they've made strides in batch consistency under their new ownership. It's nice to see. Is that the copper ammo Remington recently announced though? I thought the new stuff is called Remington CuT? That looks like regular ol' Core-Lokt Copper to me. Regardless, good video as always!
I love your videos but I've noticed that if you talk between shots your group size gets bigger, none the less, you are an amazing shot You might have to book a flight for the backfire challenge 😁
I recognized the Weatherby immediately. It's the Vanguard Deluxe Sporter made by Howa that was once offered by Walmart, Cabelas, and Bass Pro. Like the Vanguard Deluxe, it has a high-gloss finish on both the stock and bluing with a cherry forearm end cap. What it doesn't have, in addition to a much higher price, that can be found on the Deluxe model are white inserts on the butt plate and forearm cap, and a fancy bottom heel on the stock. I purchased one in .270 at my local Walmart for $597. Sometime later Weatherby discontinued the model and Walmart sold their existing stock for $399 each. There were reports of guys buying all the stores had left just to flip them at the that price. Mine is a true tack driver. Took a doe with it a few years back and it's been in the safe ever since.
Hey Bro, I have NO experience with the copper bullet YET but am preparing to switch over my '06 and my 243 in case my state goes "no lead". I've been told, however that in order to to shoot the coppers accurately, you have to clean bore down to the lands (bare metal) as if rifle is new and start again with only copper fouling (no lead). My question is - did you do anything special to clean older weatherby and how new (how many rounds) have gone down the tube of the newer howa rifle?
Those was the early days of copper bullets!! Yup quite common! ( then) But even today. Many seem oblivious to expansion ( you really ned and expect) from these requires, alot more velocity. Mist makers tell you 2000. But this is INITIATING expansion. NOT AT ALL the mushrooms ya see in your imagination, when they tell you this! Think closer to 23/2400!!!! (Most copper projectiles, not all)

Both performed great with that copper but man that Howa really liked it great video buddy
Thanks for bringing the Weatherby out again 😊 Good on big green for bringing out a great product! It's raining our my way too.
Thanks for watching!
With those groups, I'd hunt with either rifle and that Copper Corelock. Thanks WTW for the video.
Thanks for watching
I would love to see you do the Remington copper in 30-06 in 150ge
@WHOTEEWHO recently heard Ron Spomer advising to clean the bore to metal, all fouling gone, then foul only with solid copper and only use copper, apparently really helps grouping.
Good going, copper likes a clean barrel. Less carbon build up the better
I've never shot copper bullets but I think on his targets both guns shot better groups with a warm barrel. Did he clean it the barrel between the first & second groups or did I mistook the groups.

Sage advice right there!

Barnes has been filling my freezer for years 😁🦌
