Semper Fi Devil Dogs! 2012-2017, 0311 !! I miss the friends, camaraderie, foreign food, traveling, foreign countries, and the cool ranges and training.
It was definitely a life changing experience that I’m l’m glad to be a apart of. I got out and used my GI bill so I took advantage of my resources. Whether you do 1 enlistment or many, I will never talk someone out of it. One of the best things that ever happened to me! Keep up the good videos sir! It’s fun to brush up on these again!

@MARSBANDIT NYC
I’ve heard from reliable sources- it’s 100% a “bursting bomb”.
There’s even a pizza on KBay called the “Master Guns Bursting Bomb Pizza” which is basically a pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeño pizza 😉

In Oki brand new to the island long ago, I received a Red Cross message of a death in the family. My company SgtMajor was on vacation but still on the island and he showed up in warm ups to get my leave orders going, but sako couldn't get me a flight back from conus for 3 weeks because of Christmas and new years. I didn't have enough leave so I would have to owe. SgtMajor approved it and sent me down the hall to get orders to depart the next day. StaffSGT there denies it because I don't have the balance to cover. I rushed back to catch SgtMajor as he was locking his door. We walked down there, he says point out this StaffSGT, I do. He calls the StaffSGT over and says print this Marine his orders, StaffSGT says, He doesn't have the..SgtMajor points down at his signature and and says I Already Approved It, This Marine Will Wait Right Here, So Print Them StaffSGT. His demeanor changed, his voice went to a higher octave, Yes SgtMajor. StaffSGT proceeded to hand them off to a LCPL when SgtMajor said, StaffSGT You Print Them Now. I thanked SgtMajor and he went home, StaffSGT gave me my orders quick.
When I reached Cpl I did my best to look out for my Junior Marines the same way SgtMajor did..pay it forward.
Wow. Great story! Glad you shared that, and glad that he was able to help you. A lot of times, this stuff doesn’t get pushed up to where action needs to happen. Good for you!

Hahaha… that’s funny! (And maybe he DID know?!)
SFMF
I wondered this. Makes sense. Navy E-9 can be a rated Master Chief or a Command Master Chief.
A E9 in the navy is a master chief by rank. A command master chief means they are the senior enlisted to the CO. It’s not a legit rank like E9 in the USMC which has two different legit ranks. USMC can have command sgtmajs over a regular SgtMaj.
Good to know!
The USMC doesn’t have a “Command” SgtMaj… just SgtMaj. The other E9 would be the Master Gunnery Sergeant.
@@SFMF247 you could have multiple sgtmaj’s within a command. There is one “command” or “unit” SgtMaj which theoretically is over the other sgtmaj’s such as master chiefs in the navy. Say on a carrier, there is one “command” master chief but many E9’s roaming the boat for different departments. It’s all inflated position titles if you ask me lol.
For master guns, these are also E9’s who theoretically have to take orders from the unit SgtMaj, but it doesn’t happen. They come together and have discussions to work out any kinks or problems within the command. I have seen master guns (E9) take over as a unit SgtMaj until the monitor can send another E9 there and there is no first sergeant. It’s rare, but has happened.
Beast of a man. We need more like him. Our new generations are watered down.
Ashamed to say I never served, but I do have a story about a retired Master Guns. He was a fishing guide on a small charter boat he retired to. Guy was a solid rock of muscle and had a voice like low gravel. Right away I'm afraid of this guy. But man, when we got on the water, it was time to learn, and he never had to raise his voice. I'd be drifting off, not paying attention, and I'd feel just a little knock in my mid back, fish was on the line. Learned a lot. Guy was a great instructor. Nothing but respect for him and for all of you.

When I became a sergeant, I was made Company Scrounger. It was the easiest job ever because we had a Sergeant Major in our unit.
If I needed anything, and thought I would get any flack, I just said “the Sergeant Major wants…..”.
If they called called him, he would ask who was asking, and then chew them out for not giving it to me right away.
SgtMaj Goram always backed me up even though he rarely knew why I was asking for something.
Sergeants Major don't serve at the company level in the Marine Corps, so not sure where you were.
Navy should have done this.
Right I think all ranks should have a "specialist" version. I dont get the way badass technicians get forceed out because they aren't good leaders. Like why do your have to be both?

I’m remember we had this old salty SGT Major who was a Vietnam Vet. He had a bad hip and used to run with us with his cane. Was eventually forced to retire due to his medical issues. We hated that guy pretty much ran the company. Every officer was scared to question him. He wanted everything squared away even required spitshine on your combat boots. We purposely would run as fast as we could to try to break him. But he kept running. That man was the real Gunny Highway.
In our new world of a Joint Force, it would be nice for the Army to add a 4th rocker on their SGM, CSM & SMA to be comparable to the USMC. Just like Chief Warrant Officer 5, the sister services are all the same except the color of the middle stripe, Black for Army, Red for USMC and Blue for Navy. Great video though.Thanks.
when your a gunny and yell get off my lawn.......you will pickup sgm one day😂
My grandfather was a MSgt in USMC and deployed to the Pacific on the USS Midway during WWII and fought all the way up to Okinawa then went to Korea in the 1950s.
While he didn’t have an exploding bomb on his patch, I wouldn’t have dared made a pineapple reference to him if he did have one. All my letters I’d write to him as a kid in the late 1980s were addressed to him by his rank, first and foremost. He took life seriously and you didn’t want to cross him. Everything was about respect and doing the best you could so, and if you didn’t, you did it again until it was perfect. Sure he could be kind, but he was definitely born hard.

When I was in high school, I was in the N.J.R.O.T.C.(Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps), our instructors were a Captain (who happened to be a Chaplain) and a Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant. These two men taught the course in two ways. The Captain gave lectures and discussed the chapters in our Naval Science textbook. The Master Gunnery Sergeant supervised drill practice and rifle squad. The Master Gunnery Sergeant told us many stories about his experiences in Korea and in Vietnam. The Captain also told some stories. Both were retired from active service but, the Master Gunnery Sergeant was later promoted to Captain before he passed away.

I still remember getting my ass chewed out as a pfc getting those ranks confused.

Had a heated discussion with my Marine Corp Sergeant Major when assigned to MNSTC-I during my deployment to Iraq 2006 - 2007. He said that me and my other Army CSMs needed to be converted to Sergeants Majors while in country. When asked why, he said the Marines didn’t have CSMs. To which I explained to him more than once, that he held the equivalent rank and the Master Gunnery Sergeant was the equivalent of the Army Sergeant Major. I also told him that my older brother was a Marine and that I knew the MC Hymn long before I learned the Army Song. And that if I had wanted to be a Marine, I would have joined the Corp. All of my CSMs, to include myself, were the senior advisors to our commanders. In my case, I was the command sergeant major to the brigadier general in command of CMATT. In the multi national, multi compo MNSTC-I command, the Marine Sergeant Major never got it. 3/4s of the Command were Army Soldiers. We never relinquished our wreaths and when LTG Dempsey’s replacement came in, he brought his own CSM with him from the states. For the duration of that command no other Marine filled that billet.
My grandfather retired as a Master Gunnery Sgt after 35 years in the Corps and my brother was a Gunnery Sgt when he retired.
It’s a family business! 💪 SFMF
