First Day Of Boot Camp - Contraband Room, Barber Shop

- čas přidán 19. 05. 2016
- U.S. Marine Corps recruits arriving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, are taken into the contraband room and the barber during their first night of recruit training. Recruits were checked contraband items, received their first military haircut, and began recruit training.
If successful in training, these recruits will be transformed into basic Marines, representing the epitome of personal character, selflessness and military virtue.

I love watching this with my smartphone in the comfort of my bedroom.
Yeah same but I can't wait to join
Same broo 😅
Lol active duty air Force here. Brings back memories
Yes, because it wouldn't be so comfortable out there in boot camp. I feel sorry for all our military folks, from top rank to lowest rank, that 'Bone Spurs' Trump is their commander in chief.
I know right
my biggest fear is that i wont understand a single word of what he says.
I'm not a marine (going into the AF), but what I've learned from watching vids is to just do the whole "Aye Sir" deal and just follow everyone else. And if he's talking directly to you, pretty good chance you're gonna hear him haha
just say "aye sir" until you understand wtf are they saying
Bear-Dog wait,what'd he say?
YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT I JUST SAID PRIVATE?
YES SIR!
THEN WHAT I JUST SAID?
YES SIR!
FUNNY GUY EH? ON THE GROUND AND GIVE ME 20!
YES SIR!
WHY YOU STILL STANDING PRIVATE?
YES SIR!
they do that on purpose to confuse you. you need to be able to understand even when hes screaming and yelling especially if a bunch of them are at the same time. get in a firefight and have 20 people yelling 20 different things you need to be able to pay attention and understand
As a kid I never understood why drill instructors behave the way they do. But I understand. They want to get the very best out of everyone and a recruit failing is a reflection of their leadership. Massive respect to them and to the recruits that pour their heart into their training and service.
Because they gotta get everybody on the same page, physically and mentally in a very short time period. Gotta remember, a lot of kids join right after high school and they’re used to their mommies cleaning up after them and doing everything for them like cooking and laundry. They have little discipline. Not everybody, but a large portion of Recruits are like that, and have never had to face adversity or even yelling before.
It's to teach them to perform under pressure. No matter how much they scream you still have to do what you were assigned to do, it teaches discipline.
I always figured it was to desensitise people. If you have someone literally screaming in your face all day long, pretty soon it's going to feel normal and not that stressful, and given someone screaming in your face is usually pretty stressful, it probably makes people generally calmer in the long term and better able to handle combat stress.
yeah ive cleaned and cooked and done my own laundry since i was 11 and im now 15 and idk how teenagers cant do it@@flanagamer
Because in the military they want you to be a man! Not a wimp
I went through Navy boot camp in 1979. I remember that feeling of "damn, I think I probably should've gone to college instead of this". After my four year hitch I realized that my time in the Navy helped me when I did go to college. It gave me the self-discipline that I otherwise wouldn't have had. Or maybe it was that I got in a lifetime's worth of drinking and carousing in four years. It was one or the other. Anyway, got my graduate degree in biological sciences and retired at age 56 a few years ago. Thank you Navy!
Congratulations on your retirement! Huge accomplishment 👍
1:20 "damn, I think I probably should've gone to college instead of this."
Retirement at the Age 56?!?!?!, Do you have any socials I can contact you, because I have a interest of joining the Navy.
@@marksmancey.2gpuyyc9l56 I only did four years in the Navy, from 1979 to 1983. I retired from work in 2017 and had two distinct careers; one as a vascular cell biologist and the other as an enologist (winemaker). The ability to retire was due to my own financial investments...no pension or entitlements.
@@jdhalston334 Ohhh amazing!!, congrats 🎊 I want to retired before the age of 60.
I have a good work ethic, and self discipline

None of them look like they belong there.

I remember the Barber at basic he whispered in everybodys ear "you'll get through this and one day you will walk proud"....
Damn mind just said good luck like I was screwed 😄
For real?! My barber said "I will fk your wife everyday so she won't be lonely when you are fighting in Afghanistan."
I immediately stood up, turned around and shook his hand and thanked him. I also said:
"She likes to be spanked during doggy style".
When I came home from Afghanistan, my wife had trouble sitting down from being spanked so much. And I had 3 kids thanks to him.
What a great guy my barber was!
@@whiteemerald_6802 That is some motivation

Damn that's kind of gay, mine didn't say shit until the middle of my cut and said "stop fucking moving" like he was a DI himself. I didn't move once.
I went through this at Parris Island in 1996. I served for 6 years. Went to Japan, Syria, Kosovo, and all around the states. If you're watching this cause you've signed up take this advice... Have fun with it, Marine Corp Boot Camp was an awesome and exciting time for me. I came out of boot camp 178 pounds of solid muscle, could fight my ass off and had respect wherever I went. Have fun guys!
Had respect or got respect?
@zack Milder he would probably be too old lol boot camp for him was close to 30 years ago lol
Thank you for your service.
I go in 3 weeks
What a jack@ss 😂
one of the things they let me keep was a movie ticket. I still have it but that movie clip was the last movie I saw before my brother died. They didn't ask questions. Just looked at it and gave it back to me. The drill instructors aren't monsters. They just want you to stand up and tell it how it is. That's how you get them to both understand and earn their respect
I’m sorry for your lost

I consider my first day at Parris Island to be unique among my fellow Marines. I had already served 4 years in the Air Force including a year in Vietnam. I had gotten out and finished up my two years of inactive reserve time. On December 7, 1971, 30 years to the day after Pearl Harbor, I arrived at Parris Island to begin boot camp. At 0430 that morning we sat in the bus waiting for the show to begin. A Master Sergeant got on the bus and gave us a short speech, in a normal voice, and told us he was so proud of us for joining the Marines on Pearl Harbor Day. He told us to pick up our stuff and very quietly go inside the building and have a seat next to the wall all around the room. And so our day began.
The drill instructors picked us up later in the day and from that point on it was normal boot camp. I never lost that unique memory. I became a weather forecaster in the next few years, briefing pilots on their missions. I went back to Vietnam for the second time. I also spent three years stationed in Hawaii. The first thing I did after settling in was visit the Arizona Memorial. I learned of the Punch Bowl Crater Cemetery and spent an entire day walking around reading the thousands of names of my fellow servicemen and women killed in the Pacific during WWII. To this day I share a special reverence for Pearl Harbor Day with all Americans. I'll add that I spent two years in Japan during my career. My thoughts about the Japanese people has completely changed since my boyhood. They are beautiful people and I enjoyed every minute I spent in Japan.
Awesome
During Army reception that first few hours I thankfully got a female barber that was very nice and I could sense she felt a certain sympathy for us. It felt good getting that minute in the chair to sort of mentally regroup for what lay ahead. We were shaved nearly bald for all of OSUT, even after boot camp. It felt amazing being allowed a 'high and tight' the last week with actual hair to shampoo.
I think my biggest fear when enlisting is not understanding what they say
Fallen Knight Tyler oh my god me too.
Fallen Knight Tyler Lol. I was thinking that this whole video. A lot of the time I was like "What did he even say? I would be sitting there with my thumb up my ass"
My biggest fear would be thinking about a funny meme when he says some serious
Yoboss360 that happens more than you know
you'll get used to it, that was hard for me too at first

U weren’t in for shit
They'll never capture the true magic of boot camp. I remember we had a dude from New Orleans with the thickest creole accent you can imagine... he was an absolute machine, and crushed everything both mental and physical, but he absolutely refused to sound off. They would punish him with push-ups, for example, and he was just fine with that.
It evolved into a paradox of acceptance from the DIs and the other recruits. We all just kind of pretended that he would sound off. It became the subject of jokes between the DIs.
I'm not sure he would've gotten away with it except for his ability to rock a 300 PFT while barely breaking a sweat. But it pretty much made boot camp a laugh for the whole time.
"They'll never capture the true magic of boot camp." You're right. Boot camp is sort of like sex. Other people can describe it to you and you can even watch other people doing it but in order the truly understand and appreciate it you need to experience it for yourself.
1:24 “what did I just sign up for”
Riryo Roblox 😂 😂😂😂
"oh, Neptune..."
"Oh shit,i thought this is Minecraft secret society..well shit"
@ it really is, Idk about the Marines, but in the army they'll recycle you about 3-4 times before they even START to out-process you. That takes another cycle to do because you're not a priority of the Army anymore so now you become a "hold-over". By the time they chapter you out, the cycle that you were originally apart of had already been graduated almost a year ago.
@ alto of people injured themself to get out
4:40 I feel like that guy is genuinely the nicest dude ever. Hes got that fatherly concern before he started screaming lol
Haha ikr, he asked so concerning and kindly but forgot that he's a drill sergeant so he has to be yelling lol
Poor dude lol
That’s what they do at San Deigo that’s where I wanna go when I be a DI when I be. Marine I’m 9 and I’m joining when I get to high school
Plane Expert
Good choice but considering your age I’d research more about each branch but no matter what branch you join there’s 2 things you can do now
1. Pay attention in school so you can score high on your ASVAB the higher the score the more job opportunities you get
2. Join a sport to get in shape ( water polo, wrestling and track are the best but any sport will do just fine)
Tomas L swimming too, especially for marines and navy
I have the most love and respect for these drill instructors. You understand when your training and mos school is done. Getting you prepared for war. Semper fi
That we hope you never have to go to.
These are fun to watch as a Poolee because you will watch them for research and laugh at the guys in the video but once the video is over you realize that you are getting shipped out in a few months and will be going through this yourself

Ofc if that boy lose his ID, the fun would be over, he glad he could enter is DI mode agaim lol XD
He didn't want to send him home. DIs want recruits to graduate basic

4:42 DI almost forgets that he’s a DI and puts his tough act back on

@Butt Dublin Pie ...you know he was probably there before and after Obama right....
He had a brief temper tantrum to overcompensate.
He legit probably had a mini-heart attack from concern for second, because if a recruit forgets his/her ID, they have to send them home. It’s all a bunch of paperwork and a hassle. The second he found out it was just because the recruit put it in the wrong spot, he lost his temper.

Looking back boot camp was one of the easiest parts of my Marine Corps enlistment. I'm grateful for the experiences I gained throughout my five years.
Any new recruit has the privilege to choose a variety of hairstyles from the prestigious USMC barbers. The list of incredible new looks includes:
1. Michael Jordan
2. Bruce Willis
3. Patrick Stewart
4. Ving Rhames
5. Vin Diesel
6. Matt Lucas
7. Dwayne Johnson
8. Bob Hoskins
9. Samuel L. Jackson &
10. Dean Norris
What no mention of Yul Brynner, Lex Luthor, and Telly Savalas as Kojak ? :-)

What about Johnny Sins?
How about Jada Pinkett Smith?
To be fair Michael Jordan's hairstyle was chosen by Mother Nature.
Jordan's hairline started receding and then receded some more and then some more and then eventually Michael Jordan just decided to be done with it.
Some of them looked like they came from playing call of duty straight to coming into military. Smh
At least they finally came to a conclusion that doing something with their life is better than sitting on a shit bucket all day.
+Jonnel Bandilla I don't think that was their realisation mate. I think they have yet to understand the feeling of being up for night after night being scared shitless if they'll ever see their mother again.
at least they will rise through the ranks until they reach general.
+Potential x10 um, no. Do you think they will all be general?? Not even half of them will even become lieutenants.
If you ever served, you would realize half the people that enlist look like that lol... It is pretty funny to see those types get roasted in boot camp though... It's like sending a gazelle into a Lions den... The drill instructors sense it and just focus on making their life a living hell

Yeah, I joined the navy as a corpsman and got stationed with infantry marines. Let's just say most of mental health issues stem from being around those guys lol
Chair Force was dope. Served from 2011 - 2019.
Holy crap that dude cut my hair when I was there 8 years ago
It's the part of the process of breaking you down. They're stripping you from everything that you had so you can be rebuilt into a Marine
avoid things like lice.
Jere616 if he cut ur hair what was his name?? and descendence??
+Wedem Bois Stick to being a virgin, and stop commenting on these videos.
Wedem Bois well somebody's got to do it so dumbasses like you can leave dumb ass comments. By the way your welcome for that freedom you have, It only cost the lives of my brothers.
Before going to the marines, make some muscle gains and be in great shape...
Richard Vargas very true
And do not be ate up.
Don't be too big though, muscle weighs more than fat. Endurance running will be much more useful, not that being beefy will hurt that much
nah the whole point of the military is it makes you into a man. i have seen fat slobs come in and come out looking like they did a hollywood training program. Military makes you a man they take all shapes and sizes LOL
It certainly helps to be in great shape and somewhat muscular, but the people who do best are those with a lot of stamina. It's more important to train yourself to be able to do several mile runs than to become a beefcake.
I went in the army in 82.. I remember those 1st days... was scared to death
I never became a hair stylist because I just don’t have the ability or creativity. It’s been the hardest thing to come to grips with in my life, years of depression. Today I think that has changed. I can do this, i’m going to cosmetology school to become a new recruit hair stylist 😊
Do exactly as you're told, move with a purpose, and detach yourself emotionally from the ass-chewings. Right or wrong, you're gonna get smoked. Smooth sailing after that.
I don't even understand the words that came out from thier mouth lol
@ Kinney...So True!
@ Pixel...You'd understand after your 3rd chewing and they make an example out of you! Then you'd catch on fast.
@@jaysonpayton9820 I don't get what you mean haha
You would understand what they re saying because they show you how to do everything. You're a nobody the lowest life form on earth for those 3 months so you catch on quick. Another tip to add scream always when responding. You want to be as vicious as possible this will keep them off your back might even get promoted..
@@pixel6134 you’d be the perfect expample of “he just got his boots 🥾 smoked “ would look like

Man watching this is something else, I went there in December last year (unfortunately I had a medical issue and had to drop beginning of 5th week) and its all a game that first week. You get used to it thinking "okay this isnt THAT bad" before you find out its only receiving week and these arent your DI's at all. When you get to your company and meet your actual DI's they make that VERY clear, First night none of us slept cause they broke down all the extra racks and threw the pipes down on the stone floor just to mess with us. Eventually we got into a pattern "make it to breakfast, okay now make it to lunch, ok now dinner, get back survive inspection and bam sleep..."
Truly a Unique Experience, definitely not for those who cant adapt well
The United States of America needs the Corps now more than ever. I went thru in 1979, it was the best decision of my life, though it sure didn't seem it at the time :)
0:00 “Soooo... we’ve all made a pretty terrible life choice, right?”
“Yep.”
Adam Hodgkinson lmfaooo
*Others nod in agreement*
But in the end, it was worth it, for those who made it at least
It depends on how you look at it. If you want some respect, no, if you want to relax, kick back all the time, chill, yes, bad choice. Ahaha.
Wayne Bhase but you don’t get respect OR get a chance to kick back and relax

"Where's your ID?"
Realises he's not "in character"
"WHERE'S YOUR ID?!?!?!"

Reminded me of Guardians of the Galaxy.
"what are you doing.........WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!"
when he's out of character you know shit just got real

The kid looked scared shitless lol
"I work at the USMC." - "So, what's your position?" - "I cut hair."
I like to make this joke about the SH job in the Navy:
Guy: "So you're in the Navy that's cool, what type of ship are you on?"
Sailor: "Aircraft carrier. They carry dozens of fighter jets and helicopters and launch them off the surface of the ship."
Guy: "Damn dude that's badass, what do you do on there?"
Sailor: "I stock Skittles."
Hell of a way to make a living and pension.
In army basic reception, they just get the px(exchange) barbers to cut our hair and have them act like dicks.
Sergeant Bill Dautrieve
Hey dont talk shit same guys been there for a very long time and probably has held a job doin it longer than most of you! The same exact guy cut my hair back in bootcamp 2001 and those clippers freakin hurt man! Cutting the hair is a ritual too and a right of passage. They shave off your disgusting shit bag civilian puke existence away and start to re-mold you into a real man.
No matter how many of these I watch, I still say that except for the haircut, this was just like pledging my college fraternity!
I was hoping for more of details on what is considered contraband. Those are the sharpest clippers I have ever seen.
The hair cut is when I knew shit got real.
BT Warner I’m Air Force not marine, but the clippers are never that smooth lol
I knew shit was real when they told us to "strip!" For our showers lol
@Andrew Ledet I let mine grow...it was about to my chin all one length. The dude had me bald in about a minute 😂
@Andrew Ledet LMAOO
@Andrew Ledet I'm laughing hard at this 😆
I remember these day's. The first day of Boot Camp I thought my DI was going to kill me. I made him so mad.... That was 27 years ago and I just retired from Active Duty.
Billy K. Thank you for your service
PFCthomas Blackhawk LMFAO... I'm surprised the entire group didn't bust out laughing.
Billy K. What did you do?
Class 5.
Billy K. Thanks for your service.
The best training i wish we have it in Greece as well
Hats off to anybody that goes through this. I would break the first time I was singled out by a DI. I just can’t handle someone screaming in my face. I guess I’m just too soft. I probably wouldn’t be able to handle the exercises either. If there was a chance for only one day to just do what they do on their first day just so I could get a feel of what they are feeling, I might try that to see how far I would get. I remember the army recruiter kept calling me when I was 18 and every time I said “thanks but no”. One time he called and I told him about my medical disability (mainly seizures) and he said “oh, yeah, you wouldn’t qualify to be in the army”. He never called again.
