    The impulse control and restraint on all three dogs is amazing. The lab staying in a heel when two dogs are running around and the pointers holding their point while lab is running around. Loved watching this.

      It's pretty incredible that humans bred so many different type of dogs to do very specific things.... And MANY of those specific breeds not used for their specific tasks, instead kept as pets, exhibit their particular breed's traits from time to time, without any kind of training in their lives beforehand.
      But when trained for what they were bred for, like this.... I'm just always in awe.

    I've run pointers for 15 years and run into a lot of pointer guys that absolutely hate this. Eventually the pointer gets sick of not getting the reward of the dead bird and becomes unsteady. I think it's cool, but you must have absolutely disciplined dogs and know who you're hunting with, or you will have enemies. Nice job on the training!

    • @michaelsaenz5719
      @michaelsaenz5719 Před 3 lety

      The dog still has to hold point while the human kicks around to flush’em. It’s the same discipline whether a lab or a human is doing the flushing.

    This is 100% my favorite way to hunt! When my previous dog got up there in years, he couldn't work a whole field at standard flushing speed (but also wouldn't slow down). Incorporating a young, steady pointer really made it enjoyable to see both dogs doing what they love.

      Males are usually a little bigger, however poor breeding lines can make these dogs bigger when they are suppose to be more compact. Check for DNA maybe he isnt a purebred, my gwp was 50 pounds at 6 months sometimes they can grow fast and slow down throughout their first year

      Well I guess you could. But you can just as well get a pointer and have him. or her, point, flush and retrieve. Don't get me wrong, more dogs is awesome but net a must. For instance, GSP, GWP, Griffons, Pudelpointer, Weimeraners, GLP etc. they can do it all.

    • @nielsonnc
      @nielsonnc Před rokem

      Get a launcher and start planting birds in it...the launcher has a beeper and you can beep when she is about to slam it ...she won't be returning and that beeper will eventually institute the point better and these beeper collars going off just help the dog stay more staunch

  • @mustajossu
    @mustajossu Před 3 lety +2

    With your amazing training skills, I just wonder why you need another breed for flushing as you already have dogs that can easily taught to do the whole package; search, point, flush (and no chasing after flushing!!! but stop when the bird wings) and then retrieve on command. That's the way we do it here in the Northern Europe.

    • @cadenhelfrich7911
      @cadenhelfrich7911 Před 2 lety +1

      They do flush and retrieve as well here in America, I think this video is more a showing a particular technique. In many of his other videos his gsp are flushing and retrieving the birds. Hence why the Labs owner didn’t even know what this technique of hunting was.
