WAY-co Kid vs Whacko Kid. Only time will tell. Great video, now I am off to watch several of these.
Beat me
Somebody never watched Blazing Saddles, or spent time in Texas…
She is so annoying.
This is a regular feature of this channel. Someone MUST mispronounce a name at some point. That leads to people pointing it out and adding to the number of comments.
I was going to make this comment.
I love Aliens. So glad Michael Biehn was Hicks, because he killed it. To this day, both Michael Biehn and James Cameron are still pissed off at how Alien 3 turned out.
I think we all are
John Wayne loved the script but told Mel Brooks that he just couldn’t play the part. Wayne promised to be first in line to see the finished film.
I only recently learned that Wayne was offered the role of the Waco Kid. Until I learned that, I would have thought that Wayne would have been offered the role of Taggart which was portrayed by Slim Pickens. In retrospect, Wayne as Taggart would have made the racism of the character a little too real.
@@Jobe00 I agree. I think Wayne was right about passing on the Waco Kid. You needed someone who could do the part with humor & while Wayne was a good actor he could never have done the required humor.
To be completely honest, John Wayne really couldn’t play ANY part. He was a terrible actor. 😂
Yeah, fukk John Wayne. Dude was a racist pos.
@@crawdaddy2004 Exactly. The only way Wayne could have been in any Mel Brooks, or any parody film, would have been as the unwitting butt of the joke.
First video:
10 Paul Dano - there will be blood
09 Red Harris - the truman show
08 Scarlet Johansson - her
07 Donald Pleasance - you only live twice
06 Bruce Greenwood - fall of the house of usher (umm - not a film)
05 Winona Ryder - mermaids
04 Freddy Stromer - peacemaker
03 Michael Biehn - aliens
02 Christopher Plummer - all the money in the world
01 Michael J Fox - back to the future
Second video:
10 Sandra Bullock - demolition man
09 Albert Brooks - finding nemo
08 Eddie Murphy - beverly hills cop
07 Michelle Pfeiffer - batman returns
06 Mike Myers - shrek
05 Gene Wilder - blazing saddles
04 Michael Biehn - aliens (ermmm - this was in the last list...)
03 Ben Whishaw - paddington
02 Hugh Jackman - x-men
01 Viggo Mortensen - lord of the rings
This was probably done in an earlier video, but Will Smith was offered the role of Neo in The Matrix, but he couldn't understand the concept of the movie so he ditched that to film Wild Wild West. The role of Neo was given to Keanu Reeves instead, and the rest is history.
Sean Connery was offered the Morpheus role and he didn't get it either. 🤷♂️
Not surprised,he doesn't understand faithful,either.
Smith also turned down Django Unchained because he felt Django was a sidekick and didn't kill Candie.
I'm willing to bet the real reason in both cases is because he couldn't get permission from G.I. Jane.
Blazing Saddles is one of my favorite movies of all time.
i can't imagine a world where Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder didn't have their classic back and forth!🤣
Little should also have been on this list. Richard Pryor was part of the writing team and was intended to play Bart, but the studio vetoed him because of his well known drug problems. I just can't picture Pryor in the role as Little was so smooth and classy and Pryor's range is from frightened to angry.
@@HariSeldon913 disagree Pryor would have been brilliant.
I get so freaking excited when “Demolition Man” is talked about!! I love that movie so much!!
Have you seen Double Toasted Demolition Man review? It’s a great review and very funny. Very funny
i can't imagine anyone but Sandra Bullock in demolition man she had some really funny lines
And honestly I can't see anyone else making them work like she did.
Eric Stoltz was replaced by Michael J. Fox in "Back to the Future."
One of Gene Wilder's demands for accepting the roll of the Waco (pronounced Way-Koe not Whacko) Kid was that Mel Brooks would give serious considerations to another movie Wilder was in the process of writing. Mel agreed and liked it, and then we had Young Frankenstein (and if you decide to narrate it, that's pronounced Fronk-En-Steeen).
Thank you flying the flag for us pronunciation pedants! 😂😂😂
@@skunclep1938 If you've seen Young Frankenstein, you'd catch the real significance in how his name is pronounced.
That's the one with the great set of knockers. On the door.
Annette Bening had to give up being Catwoman after "falling pregnant". She was stricken with pregnancy. LOL
lol yeah she got a case of the pregnancies'
I think it might be contagious bc I've seen a lot of people stricken with that, only women for some reason.
@@ericseitzler81 oh be careful with that w word 😂
@@PrinceIsot lol yea the word only is what's really gonna get "them" going
That was a helluva fall. Wonder what she tripped over? 🤔
A ton of the Chris Farley version of Shrek was recently uncovered and uploaded online. It was a very different film.
I'm not finding more than like two minutes here on YT. Where to look?
Yeah, I've been curious about that too. I've never found much of it
Where was it uncovered- in a van down by the river?
Ten bucks says Jem has never seen “Blazing Saddles”, nor anyone involved in producing this list.
She's just a presenter. She SHOULD do better prep since that's her job. The writer... they hid those names because there's this one guy that couldn't write his way out of a wet paper bag, and that was the one they kept remaking.
Calling Paddington an addict made me chuckle. If he's an addict then Pooh must be a full blown junkie.
They will be at rehab with Cookie Monster, Scooby Doo, and Popeye
@@thestrangelet Technically Popeye only eats Spinach to fight. You don't see him eating it causally. Monterey Jack from Chip n dales rescue rangers is great for that list though.
Padditon and Pooh in "Bearspotting"
@@doro626Monterey Jack is a f*cking fiend. He'd pimp out his own mother for a Kraft single.
Well, him and Piglet *did* go full psychotic when Pooh"s supply ran out. He even ate poor Eeyore.........the humanity
The "whacko" kid. Love it.
Micheal J. Fox in Back to the Future?
Thats number 1 in the first video
If you ever go to Texas, don't say "Whacko". Waco is pronounced "Way-co.''
The whole Branch Davidian standoff must not have been international news. It did take place in Waco.
@@fromthehaven94watched every minute of it here in Canada when it happened.
I live in San Antonio and I say whacko all the time. Waco is a shithole.
@@fromthehaven94yes, but Waco was long before the narrator was born…
I can't remember now how much was on the news about Waco in the UK but I definitely remember the end being covered
As I’m sure other people said, John Wayne “got” the joke, but he was a career movie star when branding and image meant even more back then than it does now.
I kinda think Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little should've been mentioned in the same breath.
ABSOLUTELY!❤
Cleavon Little killed it in Vanishing Point. They showed his part in the video, show me how to live by Audio Slave.
Mad respect for the Hank Scorpio reference for Albert Brooks. I would have also excepted Daniel Miller from Defending Your Life.
Just ask him about the treasure of Ima Weiner.
Absolutely love Defending Your Life. Brooks is great in it!
Imagine if Sam Raimi had cast Tom Hardy instead of Eric Forman in Spider-Man 3.
I love love Chris Farley, but I just cannot picture him as Shrek. I’m happy it was Mike Myers. He was perfect! 😂
Could one imagine TLOTR without Viggo. Thank God for the casting director or Peter Jackson or whoever. Viggo is iconic as McKellen, etc. pretty much every one. An example of the perfect cast
As far as I know Indiana Jones originally would have been played by Tom Selleck. I like Tom Selleck, but for me Harrison Ford is Indy.
You are correct. There is archive footage of the Selleck screen tests on CZcams.
He had to drop out because of Magnum PI.
'member the scene when the uruk-hai throws a knife at Aragorn's head and he bats it out with his sword? Well, that was an accident. The knife was supposed to embed itself in a nearby tree, but went straight to his face so he had to pull a jedi deflect to save himself. They considered leaving the shot out of the film because it was an actual safety issue, but everybody agreed it was just too badass a moment to end in the cutting room floor.
Your first tragedy is including one of the exact same actor replacements as you had in the first video.
Your second tragedy is not including Tig Notaro for Army of the Dead.

I actually do know how the 3 seashells work, but anytime I go into detail my posts get suppressed or people ask me to stop talking immediately - I've even used just the one seashell while I was out camping near a beach to great effect and proved my hypothesis, and none of my friends at the time wanted demonstrations or anything 😢
I feel bad for Sean Young, i always liked her, maybe she was a bit of a ball buster, but something tells me that she'd be very honest good or bad, and that i can respect, and for me shows integrity! At least she got blade runner, ace ventura and that mat dillion serial killer movie, oh yeah and fatal attraction or whatever that silly fun spoof movie was called
A hundred commenters each offering a unique way to *correctly* pronounce "Waco". Heh. I love it.
Its clear Jeem has never actually seen Blazing Saddles, or she would know his names is Sherriff Bart and she wouldn't keep mispronouncing the Waco Kid.
There's a conspiracy theory that they mispronounce things on purpose in order to get a bunch of angry comments saying "IT'S WAY-CO NOT WHACK-O YOU IDIOTS!", right? Because it's far too prevalent for it to just be them being stupid and lazy to check before recording...
I have long suspected this as well. Gem Seddon (the narrator) certainly knows how to pronounce Waco.
Try Hanlon’s razor…
Did WhatCulture really refer to Air Heads as a “big movie”? 😂
Fun fact: Demolition Man was supposed to be a Jean Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal movie. None of them wanted to play the villain role beside they beef
6:09 - LOL! "Wacko kid!" It's supposed to be "Waco Kid". It's a town in Texas. I'm from Texas and I just found that hilarious.
Also, NO ONE else except Michelle Pfeiffer and Eddie Murphy were supposed to play their roles.
Hugh Jackman also learned about Wolverine from watching the 90s animated series.
Marty McFly
Another one for Blazing Saddles was the lead. Mel Brooks first wanted Richard Pryor to play the sheriff, but the studio refused citing Pryor was too dirty so Brooks settled on Cleavon Little.
Blazing Saddles was riddled with potential altered casts. Johnny Carson was even considered for the Waco Kid role. Flip Wilson was also considered for the Sheriff role. On top of that, Mel Brooks and Harvey Corman were going to play the other’s final role.
The point break and free Willy star? With a league of their own and tank girl sitting right there!?
Is she really a star. Terrible actor.
Wait just to make sure Chris Farley's character in Wayne's world is not the same character from airheads is it??
Hi. 7:00... I'm picky and I want to point out that as funny as it was that you pronounced it as "whacko" here on this side of the pond we pronounce it with the same sounding A as in "wake". "Waco Kid". Thanks.
That just tells me that they never actually watched the movie and are just reading off of a script.
Seriously, how can a list like this even exist without mentioning Michael J Fox replacing Eric Stoltz in Back The Future!? Not only did it deserve a mention, it should have been number 1!
Ok, asking a REAL question here: WHO is more polite?
- Tanjirou Kamado
- Padinngton
Stallone also wanted Jackie Chan for the role of Simon Phoenix but turned it down because he didn't want to play the bad guy.
8:37
“He left of his own accord after the studio decided he wasn’t the right fit”
In other words he “pulled a Truss”, jumping ship before he was officially replaced for not being good enough. Fortunately Firth still has his dignity!
Fun fact- that was Damon Wayans who played the effeminate man that gave Axel Foley the bananas.
Story goes that Richard Pryor was first pick for Sheriff Bart in Blazing Saddles. Other commitments (and some studio concern as to his stability) prevented that; he did contribute to the script, however. So both Wilder and Little were second choices.
Also, I’ve never really been sold as Jackman as Wolverine. He plays him like a comic book character, not an actual person. All that mugging for the camera when he’s grunting and growling, showing off his “angry face” just feels ingenuine to me. Dude’s a solid actor, don’t get me wrong, but every role ain’t for everybody.
Okay, I don't know where they got their info on Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, when he found out he got the role he went out and bought all the X-Men comics he could find with Wolverine in them and read them. This man did proper research for the role.
He even had a dialogue coach just for learning the word "bub".
John Hurt in Alien was a replacement for Jon Finch
Oh, is 6:10 a subtle play on words that I always missed? Believe you want a long A when saying "Waco." Was that moniker chosen as a joke though? Is it to imply that the Gene Wilder character is wacko?
The mispronunciations on this channel must be an in-joke, no? There are faaaar too many for it not to be 😆 That said, it adds to the charm either way
Lori Petty just would not play the character the same as Sandra Bullock anywhere as memorable.
I remember the first time I saw Bullock in that movie. I thought it was a terrible movie but she was gorgeous.
Man Myers definitely benefited from a tragedy. Chris Farley would’ve killed it.
What Mortensen broke his toe kicking a helmet! That's the first I'm hearing of it. It's not like you haven't used that bit for like 100 videos.
Albert Brooks is a great actor, comedian and man!
Don't forget his brother super Dave!
I can see Mr. Scott has wolverine not my wolverine but has a wolverine
Bullock was good but the oh actor was a better leading Lady by far would have done a better job based of point break vs bullocks work
CHAPTERS, please!
Hugh Jackman has portrayed Logan 9 times going on 10.
For once you got the top three picks right. The first thing in a movie -- always -- is *story.* And second -- always -- is *casting.*
Most of them I knew all ready
Sandra Bullock's breakout role was in SPEED, not Demolition Man.
Demolition Man came out in 1993. Speed was released in 1994. I'd say the first movie was her breakout role, but the second one made her a star.
Has WhatCulture ever done a video that did not include Viggo kicking the helmet? Is it contractually obligated? Do they only get paid if that clip is in a video?
Cleaving Little’s character is “Bart” not “Bert”.
Image Frank Gallagher playing Marlin 😂
Another film that the change in cast worked out great is Bad Boys it was initially supposed to be Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz and as much as I love Dana Carvey that wouldn’t have been the same movie
I'm suprised you didn't mention that Nicholas Cage was actually gonna be playing Aragorn at one point.
Had chris farley ever done an accent?! I can't remember.... Maybe he did a German accent on Snl??
Ziss vus vhen he vus liffing in ein van down by der river.
Dude. The story about Sean Young and Catwoman is way more in depth than what you just described. You should have talked about it way more. It's like parody levels of ridiculousness it's very hard to believe that it was actually true
10 more? Where's the first 10?
I would have preferred Farley as Shrek
Please please please check your microphone. It gets shrill at points of the video....or maybe it's just me.
Imagine if Spider-Man 3 had a good script!
You get shrill at points of the video?
The Wacko kid? Waco.... like "wake oh"
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence replace Jon Levitt and Dana Carvey (Both from Saturday Night Live) in Bad Boys. They completely rewrite the script.
The "WAY coe" kid. As in Waco Texas. Not the "wacko" kid
FYI
I'm not going to say no one else could play Wolverine, but, it's very hard to see anyone else in the role. Someday, we will, and hopefully, they'll be great.
Maybe Dafne Keen can play, um, Wolverette?
@@davidanderson_surrey_bc Laura Kinney aka X-23 exists after all. They could always recast her.
Hugh Jackman spend time studying wolves for his character Wolverine that is hilarious. Studies the wrong animal and still does a great job.
"Walls"??? I believe she said "wolves".
@@davidanderson_surrey_bc sorry about that speech to text
Hi Jem, Its "The Waco kid" not the wacko kid
Eddie Murphy doing Beverly Hills Cop meant he couldn’t be in Ghost Busters.
For Winston? Then that was for the best, Ernie Hudson was clearly a better choice.
Does it seem like Sandra bullock plays the same character in every movie?
Kinda like Sidney Sweeney?
I believe Heath Ledger is the Fan Favorite live action Joker in the Batman franchise. Mark Hamill takes it for the Animated franchise. And the only thing wrong with Hugh Jackman being Wolverine is he's 12 inches too tall LOL! The comic character is only 5 foot 3 inches tall.
Everybody knows the camera adds 12 inches to your height.
Sheriff Bart ....not Bert !
Agreed to disagree. I thought he played an excellent character in defending your life. Couldn't go wrong with his name.
This woman has obviously never seen Blazing Saddles. Waco is not pronounced "whacko." It's Waco (Wake-o), as in Waco, Texas.
99% of these videos are made by people who have never seen the films they are referencing. You should hear the ones narrated by a guy from Newcastle; his mispronunciations are hilarious.
Any chance of getting someone who can read a script properly to narrate these things? Apart from calling Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles "the WHACKO Kid" 🤣 multiple times, she says it was "doubtfully painful for [Sean] Young" to miss out on the role of Catwoman. It should obviously be "DOUBLY painful", seeing as how that meant it had happened to Young twice (given that she had to pull out of the first Batman movie as well).
Gene Waulder as the Wacko Kid?
It's Way-co not Whacko Kid.
Cleavon Little replaced Richard Pryor. ✌️🤠
Waco TX. Pronounced Way-co. Not Wakko.
okay if ever there is a role that indeed went where it was supposed to, but how would he/she have accomplished that role---Chris Farely would've killed as Shrek, oh hell ya, that guy was stupid funny...he bowed out for his only replacement, mike myers does the role super justice and brought alot to it, Now I know why he did such as awesome Shrek...they were awesome SNL years...hehehe ;p
The whacko kid 😂
Sean young fired for a piss poor attitude in the first Batman.
Such civility about Sean Young wanting to be Catwoman! 😎 (And I have nothing against civility nor the prospect of if she had played her.) Just noticing the contrast since many retrospective pieces come off pretty critical of SY for this.
Many make her out to be a kook.
That's what I mean, @@dhenderson1810
It's interesting to hear a report on the subject that leaves that out.
Automatic dislike for a red X next to Lori Petty
"WAY-co" kid. Not "Whacko Kid"
Way-co not Wacko

"The Whacko Kid"...tell me you've never seen the movie without telling me you've never seen the movie..."Waco" is pronounced "WAY-co", not "WACK-o".
It is pronounced Wayco, even though it is spelled Waco.
