it was Super 6-4 that was going down super hard not 6-1. either we we lost those birds along with a lot of good men i say that respectfully and i don't mean to come off like im correcting you just for the overall love of what these guys went through. when he said "Walcott bird is hit" was when i got goosebumps.
Enemy militia fighters were probably the only well-fed lot in the whole country. Not saying your wrong, but they probably jacked food supplies brought in by Red Cross or whoever.

The dialogue between all the characters is some of the best parts of the film. Like when their chopper got hit Wolcott: "you wanna pull those BCLs up or what? Copilot: "Right babe" Great film overall.
@@jth4242 it's the "Power Control Lever" it's essentially the Helicopter's throttle Wolcott is telling his Copilot to kill the power to the engines as the helicopter enters it's auto-rotation toward the ground. There's two reasons for that. It give's you the flexibility of powering back up before impact to lessen it, and it should help prevent some of the spin resulting from the damage to the tail rotor.
0:26 Its impressive how this actually happened - Walcott's about to have one of the most violent helicopter crashes in the history of warfare and he is still staying cool and trying to bring her down gently. Pilots are a different breed.

Toughest call in the world to make, but he pretty much saved everyone else in that chopper by sacrificing himself

Maybe Wolcott figured it was in his best interest to help lessen the impact for the crew since he had a higher chance of surviving impact? Also it is stated that had the tail of 6-1 not hit a building the chopper would have landed upright in a similar position to 6-4 (Durant's chopper) which might have saved the pilots' lives

They made them slow on purpose so the audience understands what they're looking at. It's like how movies use a ∞ shape to represent looking through binoculars even though that's not what it looks like. It's visual language for the benefit of the audience.

You can actually listen to the actual comms of this battle. Like in the movie, the pilots continue to joke with each other and do their jobs until the impact.
@@m4a1_delta66 an A10 or M1 abrams would likely be too extreme and ineffective. M1 abrams would be sitting ducks to RPGs spams and some road are too narrow for the tanks to intersect. But a M1 abrams would likely be able to stop a militia advance. A10 will likely do more harm than good and kills more civillian than militias.

Also The USMC had, and used, M1 abrams in their deployment in somalia. But the US armor was subsequently withdrawn as part of “humanitizing the mission”. a single AC-130H or Abrams tank could had prevented the tragedy.
also i just realized something US soldier could had used the miniguns on the blackhawk and sweep off militias away from the crash sites. *the onboard miniguns are probably badly damaged after the crash and wont function, i dont think its gonna work even if they did that.*

Fun fact: IRL the RPG is designed as an antitank grenade and firing one directly into the air would almost certainly kill the user. In 1993, Aidid's militia were using modified RPG launchers repurposed as antiaircraft weapons, with the back vent redirected away from the user.
The U.S made one mistake and that was not expecting the unexpected. They succeeded in their mission however, aidid knew the u.s doesn't leave troops behind so they used that as a weakness and exploited it.

You're right; as is the case too often, ridley scott fucked this crucial scene up! Nevertheless, it's still powerful; but, you are spot-on in your synopsis!
I thought the same way too. I figured they had copied the real footage and used it for the movie. Turns out, the real footage actually has them impacting a lot more severe than what we see. Blackhawks are designed for the crew to survive crashes like you saw in this clip. The REAL footage however shows the impact was much harder than what you see in the movie.
The helicopter at 0:12 and 0:33 flying very low. In the 0:34 the rocket hit the helicopter going down at 0:57 but it look to fly at a much higher before.
if anything as well as trying to make it stable again, they will have also tried to gain height to have as much time as possible to stabilize or figure something out, obviously most of the time this never really works out but its worth a shot in case it does, and the comment above me too

Everyone on aboard super 64 did survive the crash but when the two dealt sinpers were overwhelmed that's when they killed the co-pilot and two crew chiefs. Durnt is the only one that survived.

if anything as well as trying to make it stable again, they will have also tried to gain height to have as much time as possible to stabilize or figure something out, obviously most of the time this never really works out but its worth a shot in case it does, and the comment above me too

@@chanchaniceman Nah this one, this is the chopper where the two delta operatives attempt to extract the pilot, no other crew member survived that crash which is crazy to think about, even the pilot gets a broken leg
@@MrNuclearturtle That's Durant super 6-4 crash, the one in the video was Wolcot super 6-1, both pilots died seconds after the crash and on delta died due to his injuries from the crash itself and from defending the crash.
Everyone on aboard super 64 did survive the crash but when the two dealt sinpers were overwhelmed that's when they killed the co-pilot and two crew chiefs. Durnt is the only one that survived.
