Just broke mine. Trying to JB weld it but this is great info. The new tracks I bought have a loose fitting hole for it. Going to have to rig it. Thanks

The hole where the trough snaps in is too big? Never seen that. Did you buy aftermarket arms instead of Ford?

@@SealofPerfection Yes Amazon . Ford wanted 150 each . I rigged it up. Working good. JB weld fixed the trough nicely.

Would this be the same for the 2019 F250's? Can use the 2020 and up part?

Does this apply to the Sunroof Frame as well? What are the physical differences between the frames for the 17-19 FL3Z16502C22E, and the I guess 20-22 ML3Z-16502C22-A? All I can find are poor images to attempt to decipher the differences. Price difference is huge. Thanks

The frame itself is different. The newer one will bolt in to an older truck, but you cannot install the older type Motors in it. They only have two screws versus three. That is the biggest difference. The guts of it, meaning the moving parts, are still the same.
But the motors are totally different.
One other small difference is that the deflector is different than most of the older ones. Somewhere in late 2018 or maybe 2019, they changed the deflector. The new model is the same as those, but for a 15-18 or so, the deflector is different and will not swap over.
If that was the only difference, you would still be ahead of the game cost wise to buy the new track in the new type deflector. But the different Motors make it impossible.
I know all this because I noticed all these similarities so I bought one with a new deflector and tried it.
The electrical plug on the new Motors is the same, they will plug in. But I cannot tell you that they will actually work. But I can tell you is I plugged some older Motors into a newer truck and they did not work. So I assume the newer Motors would plug in to the older truck and also not work. Although I cannot 100% say that is the case. The switch is on the newer trucks are different, so it is possible that they might work on an older truck. But I wasn't going to buy two new Motors as well and risk it at that point. Plus by the time you bought the brand new track, deflector and two motors, there wouldn't be much difference in price.
So after all that typing, the short answer is, no the 21 and newer track will not work in an older truck. I have a newer track end deflector if you would like to buy it lol.

You are awesome didn’t expect such a great answer. I reckon I will just buy the old track and get it swapped out instead of trying to get a newer one to work. Much appreciated response!

@@barnagr2813 no problem, I had been meaning to go through that at some point anyway. I might actually make a video on it of the differences.
If you were handy and wanted to save some money, you could buy a new style track and deflector, and swap the guts over to your old one. They will all fit. You would save a good bit of money that way and then you would have all the upgraded Parts as well.
I have a video on how to replace just the lower cables and guides with aftermarket ones that are now available. Swapping the cables and guides off a new one would be the same thing pretty much. You'd just be taking them out of a new track and putting them into your old one. Still would be a pretty large money savings

I have watched all your videos pertaining to the sunroof, and you have taught me much, if not all I needed to learn. I wish I would’ve watched them before purchasing a truck with a panoramic sunroof… more problems than they’re worth in my opinion. I wish I could just swap the cables, but my trough guides are toast as well.
I bet I could swap a newer assembly into my truck, but the electric concerns keep me from that idea. All in All you’re a great help to these pesky sunroofs, and I enjoy your videos.

@@barnagr2813 the trough guides could be taken out of a new assembly is what I was saying. And installed into your older track.
So all you would need is a new style track and the deflector, and you could strip the new track and install all the parts that you need into your track. Reuse your shade and motors intro, and you basically have a new track inside your old frame, with all the upgraded new parts
