I need this video so I can convince friends that I’m not nuts for night running! I exclusively run in the night to avoid people. I live in extreme density!

Hoods or Woods, same difference and in many cases Hoods are next to Woods. Lots of segments of the trails I use pass right next to the Hood. I don't know why I almost never see Hood on the trail, maybe there's some unspoken rule: Trails are for San Francisco Techie Liberals only.
But Hoods or Woods, it's the same thing: you still need to watch out for wild animals either way. And our narrator's got it wrong (he's obviously not been around). The operative rule is: See And *Not* Be Seen. That means: (1) stay away from lights: the brightness interferes with adjusting to night vision - blinding you from the dark while making you visible to all around you, (2) don't carry or use any lights, (3) wear dark clothes and shirts inside-out if they have logos on them, (4) do not obstruct your ears with anything and (5) be wary of nights when the moon's out.

Up here in the PNW, there's a large part of the year where you go to work and come home from work in the dark. If you aren't comfortable running in the dark, you won't be doing much running.

I love running at night. I always have. I can run longer and feel more into it for some reason. Fortunately I live in a small city where there are lots of nice neighborhoods to run through and explore (as much as you can in the dark, lol).
I am also aware that not everyone can run at night. I'm male and white and old enough not to be seen as a threat and not as likely to be a target.

I’m going to try that headlamp, thanks. When I night run, I bring a tactical folding knife. Although I bring it during the daytime also, it’s imperative at night when cornered by a dog. I had to use it once. It’ll save your life.

Hi fellow runner and CZcamsr. I'm watching this in 2024. I just subscribed to your channel. I feel like I run faster at night! It's so serene. I live in Washington, DC. 🙂👋🏽👨🏽‍⚕️🏃🏽‍♂️

My neighborhood is horribly well lit and it’s always impossibly quiet at night even though the neighborhood is directly off of highway 17(long ass busy as fuck highway running up and down the east coast, if you live on the east coast you 100% know what I’m talking about). Somehow I never hear or see cars. Since I never see shit seeing people scares the ever living shit out of me since I never see them coming until they’re pretty close. Otherwise pretty peaceful.

i get attacked about 6times per year and i am white. i just do my things quietly and people come to me (while i am fishing in the middle of nowhere for example), try to talk to me and then get aggressive and attack me out off nowhere because i didnt answer them. just yesterday a guy threw handfuls of rocks at me. while i was just sitting there saying nothing.

      No. It's:
Tip #1: See. Avoid lights, they blind you to the dark and interfere with night vision.
Tip #2: Not be seen. Avoid lights, they make you seen. And wear black. And if you're female, avoid moonlit nights if you enjoy hiking and running in crop tops and shorts or miniskirts (or in the nude).
