  • Working on the King Amusement Company Supersonic Rocket ride. Trying to wrap up the last major issue with this kiddie ride. There is some severe pitting on the stubs that hold the sweeps and these have been lurking over us since almost day 1.

    You might want to try a flap disc on your angle grinder for paint removal. It works really well and really fast. You might also want to invest in a slightly larger angle grinder. Would have done a lot faster/cleaner job of cutting the old sweep stubs out than you were able to do with the torch. I broke down and bought the big 6" 60v Dewalt cordless grinder. This thing is a beast. It hurt my heart a little to watch you guys weld those stubs on without notching the tubing to match the radius of the hub. I'm sure they will hold, but I can still hear my welding instructor yelling at me about the "RIGHT WAY".

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  Před 11 měsíci +2

      That's a valid point. Notching those stubs never even occurred to me (and I'm usually big on trying to do things the right way). My focus on returning it to original as-built condition (as much as possible) and I guess while trying to think like the people who built it, it never occurred to me that they would even bother doing that. For instance the 24" circle that makes up that piece shows evidence of being torch cut from 1/2" plate by hand and they didn't even bother cleaning up the jagged edges. There are parts of the trailer that look like they didn't have a long enough piece so they butt welded several scraps together.

    @MonteD1 Před 10 měsíci

    You are more patient and thorough than I am. I would have just tried to put new ones in between the old ones and just not bothered with taking the old ones off.
    That's probably why I shouldn't be doing it...

    @BasEerdenKeuning Před 11 měsíci +1

    To remove rust you can also use a sort off wire wheel for the angle grinder. It works great for me after i removed most off the big bits i clean it up with the sand blaster.

      it is certainly handy having a welder certified in several different techniques in the family. I'm a bit spoiled by it. only down side is I never bother trying to increase my own welding skills since I know I have him. I'll pass along your compliment to him.

    Avoid using actual sand for sand blasting. Coal ash is much better and doesn't absorb moisture like sand. Available in a couple different grits and gets finer with each reuse. Tractor Supply used to carry it back when I was doing blasting.

    Are you going to get the super loop ride or fireball ride, or chicago loop

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  Před 11 měsíci

      I would love to. All of this really depends much more on the operators than me. At this point all of the setup videos I have done have been with Majestic Midways. They have given me almost unheard of access to be up close and personal recording these things. There aren't too many places out there that would be interested in me doing that. So, at the moment, I'm only really able to do these videos with equipment that Majestic owns- and they don't currently own a loop. I'd be more than happy to work with some other companies but it is a pretty big ask to give me the kind of access I need to make the in-depth videos I make. Majestic is always buying and selling equipment though so ya never know.

    Mr Rondeau Jeff Barry from Lebanon you have your your acetylene is flowing too much and also your oxygen is way too high. Basically when you hit the oxygen lever to really throw the extra oxygen on to cut your re-welding it, that’s what the problem is so your torches way too hot and I do know because I used to be a welder before the steel industry folded, then I got a job as a correctional officer for 28 years and yes, when you’re a welder you take it very seriously because you don’t want nothing breaking you want good penetration, and good even beads and new undercut in other words the way that gentleman had his welding machine set up was perfect. It should sound like eggs frying in the pan.
