    Totally agree with others about an episode discussing skin changes and skincare in perimenopause and menopause. I was seriously not prepared for the skin effects from perimenopause that I've experienced so far (like suddenly becoming reactive to my usual skincare regime, getting patches of eczema at random times, milia outbreaks, bouts of cholinergic urticaria) & until I spoke to my GP I had no idea if it was something I was doing wrong with my skin to make it behave the way it was.

      @gadgetgirl9 Před rokem +11

      @@GoBlueGirl78 I don't know who that is, but it is absurd to say that. A 30-year-old is going to have very different needs than I have. I can tell you that for sure as I was 30 at one time. I still had good elasticity and firmness, and I did not have a sagging jaw, a droopy mouth, etc. My lips were still full, most are at 40 and ever well into the 40's. It's different now, so age does matter. Most products seem to be formulated for up to 50 and then I guess we all die or just stop caring.

    So, as others have mentioned here, there needs to be more research and discussion about how peri-menopause and menopause affect the skin. We all know about how environment, sun damage, stress, diet, gravity etc. affect the skin over time. We also know the habits and products that can help with those.
    However, what I have not seen a lot of talk about is how loss of estrogen and progesterone impact the look and feel of the skin. (In addition to all the other lovely changes to your body. So much fun) I feel like the lack of information on this leads sooooooo many women to feel bad about the way they look. Even though they have done everything right for their skin. I am definitely one of those women. I have been caring for my skin, almost obsessively, my whole life.
    It wasn't until I watched a video from another dermatologist here about why JLo looks so good for her age. She stated that one of the factors was that she thought JLo was probably on some form of hormone therapy. I feel kind of stupid, but I never would have thought about that. No doctor has ever had any discussion about that with me.
    This needs to be talked about more. And it needs to be proactive rather than waiting until full menopause and the damage has already been done.

    • @gadgetgirl9
      @gadgetgirl9 Před rokem

I've witnessed people having more wrinkles on the side of their face that they prefer to sleep on. Because of that, I invested in a special pillow that keeps my cheeks off the pillow while on my side. I'm more of a side sleeper so the pillow has really made a difference. ❤👍🏻

As a teen, I had very bad acne and went to a dermatologist who gave me Retin-A liquid and told me it would be beneficial also to sit out in the sun for 15 minutes a day to let the sun dry up my acne. Do you guys know anything about sudden allergies to Benzoyl Peroxide? I'd been using it for 2 years without any issues and I woke up one day with hives and swollen eyes and found out it was the benzoyl peroxide. Since then, I've tried to implement it into my routine in so many different ways and every time I have the same reaction. I've talked to a lot of people that told me the same thing happened to them practically overnight. Is there any research on why this happens? It's disappointing because it was working so well :/

    That's actually really interesting. The community I've seen with de-influencing either show there house as imperfect and how they are handling it. Or they talk about what you don't need at all no alternative 😂. Which I guess the second kinda falls under what you two talked about.
    The "TikTok" ban is actually a lot MORE than banning TikTok.

    I think sleeping on one's back does help prevent wrinkles. I've noticed I have less wrinkles than my sisters. I'm the middle sister. One likes to sleep on her side, and the other often sleeps on her stomach. I used to sleep on my side, but I trained myself to sleep on my back.

    Love to IF! Works great for my skin and inflammation, really helps keep me centered. Rarely ever drink more than 40oz of water a day, that seems to be my comfort zone. "That being said..." lol, I wanted to comment on the side sleeping segment. I have been a side sleeper most of my life. I tend to sleep primarily on my left side, and I will say, Dr. Maxfield, that there is a difference in the depth of the lines under my left eye compared to my right. It's not obvious to the casual observer, mostly just to me. I do switch sides, but if I sleep on the right, my ear hurts, kind of like muscle cramp, which then drives me back to the left. Maybe I'll just use more eye cream on that side? ;)

    I sleep on my right side and can’t fall asleep on my back. I get this long line on the side of my face from my skin squishing together there that is driving me crazy. When I was your age these lines would disappear quickly, now it’s there all day. I’m trying to make adjustments to stop this but so far it hasn’t worked and just causing me not be able to sleep.

    I avoid social media everywhere but You Tube, to avoid time and mental drain. I also avoid short form content for the same reason. I do think young people need help with attention, not harm. My own 21 y o son expresses that he and his friends see a problem for themselves with too much short form content

      I agree, short form content significantly decreases attention spans and we don't know the long term consequences of that yet

    I got confused when you were talking about micro needling? It’s not the same as face exercise, right? I get as you said the facial muscles don’t change that much. It’s the fat cells move to other places. Do the move because of loss of collagen and elasticity? I guess I want to ask is micr needling helpful in stimulating collagen or elasticity in the dermis.
    I enjoy you both very much. I really don’t care about Tic Toc. Lol
