- In this video, I’m cruising with Costa Cruises, onboard Costa Diadema. I’m on this cruise as part of a 14-night cruise around parts of Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, including the Canary Islands. Today, let me take you ashore in a beautiful port of call (Funchal, Madeira) to show you what it’s like to visit here.
This is my second time visiting the island (I was last here on P&O Azura back in December), so I already know it’s going to be such a great port day. As a result of being here before, I also know exactly what I want to do today but, frustratingly, it doesn’t go to plan…!!

If (when!) you get back to Madeira, yes do the toboggan but before that don't miss out on Monte gardens, which is where the cable car actually takes you. It's not free, but it is beautiful, surprising, exotic, and one of my personal favourite places in the world. After the toboggan take a taxi back to the city (€10) so you don't have to do a long and not very interesting downhill walk.
And stay out of McDonald's! 😄
Ahh, I’ve heard the gardens are amazing - will pop on the list with your backup!
Also, can’t promise anything about the McDonald’s, haha!
Thanks for watching!!
I was in suspense waiting to see if you made it to the ride! Bummed you missed out again, but I would have loved that flower festival, too. What a nice change of plans.
Hey Shana, agreed - annoyed not to have made it, but the festival was excellent - the whole city was alive!
Great video as always. Gutted you couldn’t do the toboggan again but you really made the most of your day and I love your enthusiasm.
Thanks Joanne - really appreciate this 😊 Thanks for watching!
Always lovely to watch your adventures, Fraser. I'm sorry you missed the toboggan again, but in Portugal there's a saying "there are no 2 without 3", which means if you don't get something the first 2 rounds, you'll certainly get it the 3rd time around 😉 Keep going! All the best! Xx
Hey! I think I’d have to agree with them - I’ll be applying the ‘third time lucky’ principle to this situation I think…! Thanks so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave a comment! 😊
Another great video Fraser. Thanks
Thanks, Gavin!
Ive always wanted to go to Madeira - it just looks so gorgeous. Thanks for taking us there! 🙂❤️
Oh, you must - it’s STUNNING - one of my favourite ports! Great to see your name pop up, Colin!
@@FraserAtSea I'm trying to keep up Fraser! I'm going through some unpleasantness at work at the moment and so that's distracting me, but it's nice to escape for a while and see what you're up to. 🙂❤️
Great video again Fraser! We visited Madeira back in February on Azura so this brings back fond memories of this beautiful island, we didn't do the toboggan but I think next time I'd definitely like to give it a go if it's running 😉
Yeah, totally agree - it’s such a beautiful port to call at. Third time lucky for me…!!
Great vlog. Gutted you couldn’t do the toboggans
Thanks guys - third time lucky, huh??
Another great video 🤗
Thank you!
Going to Madeira again in January on Iona ..must try the vine if the weather is kind ❤
You’re going to love it - have a great trip!!
We are living in a greedy world. In NYC big banks only exchange for clients with deposit accounts and you have to add in advance. At JFK the fee starts making sense when exchanging over $250! Was the fee from the ship as bad?
Why don't you try to book in advance through their websites? Most of those places provide for that.
The fee from the ship wasn’t that bad, but I got muuuuuch better from the bank - that’s for certain!
