    As many people have mentioned, Cockatrice is a fantastic option. It's easy to set up, has a plethora of options for customization, and unlike Tabletop Simulator is 100% free as well as gets you straight into Magic. You don't have to go through their janky setup. Spelltable is also really good but unless you are streaming your feed to someone else and vice versa, you only get to see one aspect of the board. There are tournaments that allow Spelltable as well as tournaments through Cockatrice. They aren't even hard to find.

    • @Nidrog
      @Nidrog Před 17 dny

      I'll say TTS advantage over Cockatrice is that it is a TABLETOP Simulator. Anything from MTG to 40k can be played on it. And while not free it does go on sale pretty often such as right now thanks to being on steam. But hey its 20€ for something that has given me at least over a thousand hours of playtime total. That's honestly worth the price of admission if you ask me. I'd argue also that if you don't host the game, it gets you quicker into the magic because all you need is the deck importer and that the host can get set up and then all you do is ctrl+c, ctrl+v, click button. And your deck with all the tokens and everything else you might need is there. Including potential side and maybe board cards that can be there to swap out cards if you want to lower your decks power level, or increase it. And all you needed to do besides making the deck on a place like moxfield or Archidekt is install it.
      Both are pretty good ways of playing it though. (I do prefer TTS because honestly I can have my decks look the way I want without any work on my end outside of picking how I want the cards to look on Archidekt.)

    • @hurpdurpueruhur
      @hurpdurpueruhur Před 17 dny +15

      Cockatrice's interface is absolutely atrocious(very similar to mtgo's lmao) compared to TTS's mtg scripting, as cockatrice is made for many card games and the TTS map is specifically designed for MTG, and can host up to 8 players without the restriction of only being tied to a window, as someone that's played both it's not even close, spend the 20$(10$ on sale right now) for tts and never look back.

    • @hurpdurpueruhur
      @hurpdurpueruhur Před 17 dny +8

      also not even trying to be rude here, if 10-20$ for tts is too high of a price point picking up MTG as a hobby isn't the greatest idea.

    I wish I could just port my actual commander deck into it without needing to buy cards that I already had to buy physically, if I already have all this than I don't wanna buy whatever I need to in order to play with my buddy's when we don't wanna meet up I would rather stick to facecam game nights

      ether tabletop sim for a paid program that also has tons of other uses and games you could play on it, or cockatrice/untap for completely free to use, import your deck list from some place like moxfield and your good to go, cockatrice is my preferred way to play, really easy to use once you start memorizing the many shortcuts and for me and my friend group that are much less experienced its really easy to just take back moves or mistakes as we continue to learn and mess with the system.

    Spell Table is a nightmare to use. It requires such a perfect set of conditions to work. No one in my friend group can get it to work. I have a 4k webcam and it just doesn't matter because it's locked to 720p. No amount of adjusting my lighting or camera position works. It's just a fuzzy mess. We just use Table Top Simulator.

    Good tip, unmap the 2 button (Pass Until You Can Respond This Turn) on your keyboard as pushing on your turn can skip your whole turn.

    I use Cockatrice within my friend group. It's open-source and deck builder is built in. Plus if we swap out the card database with... let's say YuGiOh we can use it for that too. Downside is everything is manual

    There should be a magic game where you can "scan" or somehow import your real life cards and play it out with friends.

    • @samowens576

    The one thing keeping me from Arena are people purposefully dragging out games because they're losing. I can't imagine how long these commander games would last in this case.

  • @alexdalzell4451

    Awesome, I live in Philippines and will have to spend sooo much for importing from another country. And not alot of MTG players is also a big disadvantage here, with this I can play whenever I want.

  • @Infernoblade1010
    @Infernoblade1010 Před 17 dny

    That's a wild deal! I've played on MTGO for years, and it was sad to see it fall to the wayside due to arena. Arena still has a ton of work to do before I'd even care to come back to it. I might drag a few of my friends back into it too. $45 is impressively cheap, and I love how easy it is to brew on MTGO.

  • @samuraib0b

    One thing I would like to add: If you are looking for other commander staples like Mana Crypt/Vault or fetches, you only need ONE copy for ALL decks.
    There is no need to buy a separate copy for each deck. Learned that the hard way.😅

    Guys just use moxfield to play test any deck you want, use OBS to create ways to cover your hand and library (when you view it) and to utilize the virtual camera. Point it to your moxfield play tes, then use spelltable and use your virtual camera to play anyone

  • @Rukha95

    Tabletop is the clear best way to play commander.
    My friends and I have tried spell table and even with great cameras sometimes it's just impossible to really see the card properly and grasp the full scale of their boards

    Since when do you get a budget deck of each format upon signing up to mtgo? I signed up just a few weeks ago and I don't think I got those, or do you need to open them somehow? It didn't list any decks for me when I did make my own first deck, I'm pretty sure. But I do remember getting each Standard common.
    Edit: Saw the part about the Upgrade Kit now and I did manage to buy it! Thank you so much for this video! :)
