I know this is an old video, however, I just used this guidance to retrofit mine. And from all the videos and tutorials online, this was by far the most acurate and easy one to undersand. Well explained and the schematics at the end is pure gold. Thank you very much for that ! Cheers
I did that a while ago on my 335d and the shifters didn’t work because the paddles were from a pre lci I needed that wiring diagram you posted in the end thanks
@@rackintosh yes I just finished it today. But instead of by passing the steering control harness I spliced into it with no issues. Still have all steering controls, volume up, climate control etc.
I literally saw like 10 videos before this one actually helped me lol my pre lci car with pre lci shifters was simple and I only needed to wire from the shifter to steering colum this one was more time consuming
I may have missed it in the comments, but where did you source the pins to put your wire in to put it in the bmw connectors? I'm curious about the ones on the wheel and the steering column. Great video and thanks for the help!
May i know the 2 existing cable on the clockspring harness under wheel [pin2&4] - where does that lead and whats the purpose of it? Is it safe to disconnect that?
Thanks for the video. I have some questions about pins of the paddles. Harness at steering wheel pin 4&6 connect to left&right paddleshifter pin 1&3 , is that right? thanks!
I’m not certain which is which but essential yes. 4 is for upshift, 6 for downshift (or the opposite). 1 & 3 on the paddles are the same and 2 on the paddles is ground. I flipped 1&3 on one of my paddles so that the left paddle is downshift and right paddle is upshift. You’ll just have to wire it up and experiment until you have everything right.
thanks for the video, i see you did this to an LCI car, did you have to do any coding to get the car to accept the paddles? wondering if it will be different for a 2011 e91
Thanks for the video. I got a question, what do you mean by « bypass multifunction buttons » ? What I understood is that you just have to wire up and down wires to pins 4 and 6. And replug the connector. So do I have to cut the wires which previously go to 4 and 6 ?
The paddles normally connect into the steering wheel controls but for some reason mine didn’t work when hooked up that way. So I just created a harness directly from the paddles to pin 4 & 6.
Does this mod work regardless which multifunction buttons the new steering wheel has? I know BurgerTunning says that a certain part number multifunction buttons is needed apart from their harness. I wonder your method applies to a complete steering wheel that does not come with that specific part multifunction buttons.
I ended up bypassing the multifunction harness pins and just wired them directly into the clock spring. I couldn't get mine to work while connected to the multifunction harness
I made a harness for this hardwire since the two wire method wasn’t working. I just have a question since I feel like my paddles Wires are messed up and aren’t the correct 1-3 pin layout. My horn goes off when turning on the car. I’m not afraid to mess with the car since I’ve been working on mine since I got it in 2014. Do you know the diagram for the wire coming out of the paddles itself. Mine are switched and can’t figure out what is ground, +\- do you know the layout for the Paddle shifters wires 😂
My multifunction bottons have plug when i can connect the shifters connector. Do i need to adjust any wiring there or will it work with just the clockspring pin 2 & 4 to gearbox?
@@Furtive_ the paddles are effectively joined together. With the default wiring they do the same thing. I just flipped the wiring on one paddle so it would pull to downshift and the other would pull to up shift like most modern paddle setups.
No idea! Probably! I had to test wire it up to make sure everything is working. You can reconnect power (with the airbag disconnected) but you’ll have to reset the airbag light after.
It took me a while to figure it out. Double check and triple check everything? Make sure you have the correct pins on the column. And try changing things around if it’s not working. If you have LCI paddles this may not work
@@rackintosh i was doing more research and someone actually used your design to make a kit and can be copied better czcams.com/video/rXYWCKAWc3g/video.html this is the person, youtuber Jonathan Weeks.
There are 3 wires coming from each paddle shifter..your explanation shows only 1 wire going to pins 4&6 from each side and the earths being connected together..this must be incorrect..there are 2 wires from each side that need to go somewhere not just one
Three wires. Upshift, downshift and ground. Ground goes to the steering wheel ground (if I recall correctly) 1 is upshift, the other downshift. LCI paddles might be different but for the steptronic paddles this works. You can play with switching wires 1 & 3 until you get the desired function for the paddles.
kenneth wilson it’s really not that complicated once you figure it out, and I wasn’t going to pay $100 for a kit when I could do it myself for $5 in wiring. If you aren’t familiar with wiring and electronics it would totally agree with you. But to each their own.

I had leftover pins from a wiring harness I de-pinned. I believe it was a quadlock stereo extension harness.

I didn't have to do any coding, you just splice into the circuit already used by the shifter.
can be done for LCI MSPORT 2009 MODEL

I believe you can plug these into the multifunction buttons if they have the plug. I’m not 100% certain.
You can always try and and see if it works.
Question....will this work on pre lci? 07 328i? If so which steering wheel would I need ? I know burger tuning has the retro fit kit
celis281 should work on pre LCI. I think the most difficult retrofit is getting the DCT or LCI paddles to work
I heard the only difference is on LCI cars you don't need to shift into sports mode to use the shift paddles, on pre-lci cars you do
I have a question? Do you have to do the same wiring for the both of the paddle connectors? or just the right connecter of the paddle connector
@@Furtive_ the paddles are effectively joined together. With the default wiring they do the same thing.

Hey question so I just did this , and when I hit the paddles my car honks ? Any fixes ? Thank tou
Shaquan Davis You’re going to have to go back and check your wiring. Definitely some wires are crossed or connected to the wrong pin
Leave it, that sounds dope as hell
😂😂
Hi, your paddles works in mode D or just sport ? I have a 325i 2006 the paddles don't work in mode D but in sport mode it's ok
When in “D” mode it will shift but then revert back to auto after a few seconds.
If they are working in sport mode that’s still pretty great!
Does the heated steering wheels work on the new wheel?
Yes! I made sure to buy a heated steering wheel. If you have the non-sport heated wheel it will work.
Hi is it the same process with a bmw e87
Should be the same process!
