Sprinter Van At Night, Brand New Jeep On Golden Spike

- As soon as we got back to town from Farmington we got a call from dispatch about a Sprinter Van on Long Canyon that was worried about tipping over. So we headed up and got them back on level ground and turned around. I believe the call for the jeep on Golden Spike came in the day before we left for Farmington. We got up there and tried to reset the computer, but to no avail. The customer wanted it towed to the trailhead so they could load it on a trailer and haul it to a dealership since it was still under warranty. His buddy also had a control arm bracket that had broke. They welded it with a trail Welder but asked since we were already there if we could touch is up. So we did. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

It never ceases to amaze me on your driving skills and the ability of all the vehicles in your fleet. I would also say the camera work is awesome!
I think those guys watching Rory and Mike on that last obstacle were saying the same thing, except I feel sure that one or two of them were saying 'No way in hell is going to pull that heavy jeep up that!' but then he exactly that. No winch. No crazy run up bouncing off the rev limiter. Just slow and sure feeling for the line and grip and up they went. I guess it did help have that bit of slack in the tow line to be fair.
Its been great to see how much Rory has grown as a Content Creator.
Back about 15 years or so ago when we were visiting Moab on a regular basis, we hiked a lot of these trails. And we thought what nice HIKING trails. The wheeling/crawling scene was just getting started. Never in our wildest dreams could we know that people would actually drive vehicles over these trails! And then we would WATCH A WRECKER TOW PEOPLE OUT OF THESE TRAILS! WOW! We are addicted to your channel. The whole crew is so awesome! PS: the W.E Rock people need to create The Rory Irish Most Sportsmanlike Award... and we know who would win that most of the time. 😁

I'm guessing the dispatcher told you it was a brewery van. If not that was an amazing guess. Wasn't quite a man bun but I bet he often has his flowing locks tied in a bun while brewing his craft beers.

That last shot was priceless. I would be helping dad as a teenager and he would tell me to get in there and start that nut, bolt, whatever because his hands were too big. Miss my dad…..that was a long time ago.

Besides the NEXT LEVEL FEEL AND CONTROL FOR THE THROTTLE AND CLUTCH APPLICATION DURING THE LOW SPEED CLIMBS WITH THE JEEP ON THE LINE... What ultimately gets it for me is you guys having a laugh at the end, with that whole "new" perspective shot, as RORY causally 🤣 installed the new starter! If you guys thought the closer shots would make your trail fixes LOOK more difficult, it didn't. We don't believe you RORY! You make it look easy because with your SUPREME TALENT, ITS BECOME EASY FOR YOU, JUST LIKE YOUR DRIVING ABILITY AS WELL! HAHA! LMAO 🤣

That was no easy recovery but you guys make it look so easy. And saving the poor van that just needs some lockers (or winch) was priceless.
The driver of the van just needed more talent. He cut that corner way to close and almost dumped it over. Driver error cost craft beer guy a tow bill!
Have to turn off the traction control nanny button. Probably could have driven out, but since it was already twisted up... better safe than sorry.
I think it did have a winch, even. Nothing to anchor to, maybe?
Seeing the Sprinter with one wheel spinning in the air and all those auxiliary lights is the poster shot of the phrase "lights before lockers"🤣
My complements to that old 454. It really has the bottom end torque to get the job done. That was impressive dead pulling that Jeep up at the end. Not surprised that you had the starter with you, knowing the old one was going out. Get all the life out of the old one. Thanks for sharing.

Getting a couple years out of a starter on a motor with headers that spends most of its life in low range in a hot environment is pretty good
Hi Rory , I'm in Minnesota waiting to get my car towed , no spark , I've been waiting for a AAA tow for 3 HOURS AND 15 MINUTES now , 70 degrees , calm , no rain , watching my FAVORITE recovery guy . Update : I waited exactly a total of 5 HOURS and finally a tow truck arrived ! and I live by a large city ( St. Paul , Minnesota ! ) .
Just a little night time excursion, followed by a "you're bringing a wrecker?!?". Lol, not JUST a wrecker, but a First Class award winning Ugly Rig !! & lots of chuckles in between ! Thanx !

I’m noticing a shift in how I view these videos. I’m still fascinated with the fab stuff and the technique for negotiating obstacles, but the visual smorgasbord that I’ve been missing the first viewing entices me back for another look. What an awesome office you have. We did a driving trip through southern Utah and never had this kind of visual stimulation. You guys are good at so many things.

Watching you change the starter reminds me of modern rigs where you have to remove half the front end . I hate working on late model junk .

You know your a real mechanic when you can blindly use a crescent wrench with just your fingertips turning a nutt using just the tip of the crescent wrench and not skip a beat while tightening it 1/6th a turn at a time.

There are the videos I love... really tough access with Trail Mater, field repairs (including repair of Trail Mater) and a tough extraction... it had it all. No easy day. This one was real work.

Skillful driving and great recoveries, guys. 👍 My fear of heights would probably prevent me from driving many of the trails in Moab, even in something like a lightly modified (basically stock) '82 Chevy pickup.
You just know it's gnarly when Rory needs the winch.....even if it was to pull him 2 feet to get the pumpkin off the rock....lol......I'd have a hard time walking that trail let alone "cruising" it with a square body!!!!!

MAN...Merlin the Magician could not compare to getting TrailMater to the recovery site! Loved the GATEKEEPER bouncing of the “bum” and then the “Doe-See-Doe” to the left with the front end!! And repeat of the front end dance at the WALL. There are No Words for driving the ROCK CLIMBING steepness of the No Left Turn! Remarkable skills, absolutely remarkable! Love you guys...Wisconson
I’m always impressed with the guys ( and girls ) that tackle those trails but the guy that I’m really impressed with is the first one that tackled it.
Loved the quick shot of the stars- reminds me of the year I spent in west Texas. Only out in the desert do they shine that bright!

I hate to say it and I have tons of respect for Paul, Matt and Eric’s skills, but Rory will likely dominate the tow truck competition.
I've watched a lot more of the other three than Rory. Only because I didn't know about him till the recovery with Matt and Robby. Having said that, I agree with you somewhat.
Matt may have an advantage in the sand. He's has years to play in it. Paul, is probably equal to Matt. Eric is from a different side of things. Although his wrecker was impressive at EJS, he's still out of his element. Put everybody in Eric's area. He's going to win.
Matt's rig has the weight advantage. That might just give him the win. They're all equally smart.
@@UberLummox Time in the rig is really important. Rory and Eric have years of experience with their rigs. Matt and Paul’s rigs are new builds. They may have teething pains, who knows. It’s going to be interesting for sure.

Wow to the average man this would have been a "let's call Rory for this recovery"! Oh but Rory and Mike do the marvelous nob of navigating Rusty Nail, No Left Turn, the Gatekeeper and all while Mike gives us a blow by blow of what's going on on the way to the recovery. Good job!

So watching your great drivetrain shots I'm always impressed. Not by how well everything works, but that it works at all. Not just your rigs, but the entire weird system we use. From output shaft, thru the clutch, trans, transfer, drive line, diffs and just a whole passle of u-joints, splines, arms, cradles and tires.
WOW 😯 that had to be one of the more difficult recoverers you have had!!👏 job well done!!

13:35 seeing those "welds" hurt my soul. I'm amazed they made it out of their driveway even more impressed thy made that far down the trail.
The welds you are seeing are the start of a trail repair. The frame apparently rotted from the inside and the bracket tore a big chunk out. I had to cut up a skid plate to patch it together. My welder crapped out, so I couldn't finish and asked Rory to finish burning it in.
After that weekend at WE Rock, Rory wants to front dig everyturn. Then he used the little white jeep as a hand brake 😂 impressive doin all that and not snapping an axle shaft.

I love the "Ugh" response (6:08). I get the same thing (but for the opposite reason -- too small not too big) when I do snow recoveries with my little 1989 Dodge Raider. I've actually had someone say "How's THAT going to get me out?" 🤣
