    This new Mercedes-Benz GLA250 is a small or subcompact utility based on the same platform as the GLB, A-Class and CLA. This new small Mercedes SUV has a 2.0L 4-Cylinder engine with 221hp and 258lb.-ft of torque. The power goes through a new 8-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and powers all 4 wheels with 4Matic AWD. The design of this latest GLA is more of a traditional utility shape moving away from the cropped roof found in the first GLA. This GLA is sold as a GLA250, GLA35 and GLA45 AMG. The interior of this and all the new small products from Mercedes-Benz utilize the MBUX infotainments interface with either 7-inch dual screens inside the cabin or optional 10,25-inch screens. The power is just the right amount to make this small SUV a blast to drive, the interior is a major step forward and the price is attractive, at least the base model.

    Mercedes Benz owns the crown in jacking up prices from the base model. They always offer a base model that's completely stripped and by the time you get to a decent package, the price is up by almost 30%. Yes, you pay a premium for that emblem on the hood & grille.

    The new GLA certainly looks updated. I’m neutral on it’s appearance (exterior). One of the priorities that I consider paramount, on a primary car, is how it looks at night, on the interior. I appreciate the ‘Night Life’ shots. Especially, when I drive distance at night driving in the country (+5 hrs. Ottawa to Lake Muskoka/Mont Tremblant/Lake George NY/Niagara Falls/Toronto), with everyone else asleep (including the dog). The ‘Night Life’ shots are a great idea and typically hard to find, even on Google images. Thanks for the video.

    Purchased a 2021 Mercedes GLA 4matic in April of this year largely based on the strength of this review. Couldn't be happier. Kept options at a minimum with the premium package, panoramic roof, heated seats and garage door opener. OTD price was $43K (USD). Feel lucky to have purchased when I did as this model configuration has literally been unavailable in the U.S. since June 2021.

    You can see where Mazda is aiming at when the base GLA starts at 42 and after only a few options you're up to 51. A loaded, every option offered, Mazda3 Turbo is 36. Like Motormouth said, how much is the three pointed badge really worth to some? Curious how the CX-30 Turbo is when you get a chance to drive it this Fall/Winter! Cheers!

    • @austenrichardgeorge842
      @austenrichardgeorge842 Před 3 lety +1

      I'd take Japanese all day every day over the Germans. I have a friend in England who has a fleet of Mercedes and AMG - he owns the Widowmaker - there is only one left in the world and he has it. And he said to me every Mercedes and BMW model after about 1997 is an absolute pile of crap. All it has is the name badge but all the quality mechanical equipment has been replaced by electronic rubbish. This fellow makes some of the best Stereo equipment in the world including the parts right down to the capacitors and resistors. So he is a manufacturer himself - he is a big car enthusiast who regularly drives the Autobahn and attends racing events. Mercedes is garbage at a parts quality level so yes they ride well, they are peppy and they have nic interiors and then because the parts are shoddy - when you need to get brake pads they have to replace the rotors so brakes that would cost $250 on a Japanese car will run you $2500 on the Mercedes. The Mazda in 8 years will still be worth something - the $80,000 Mercedes will be $8,000 because everyone knows they're junk. I just don't get the "prestige" factor. The cars with the best reliability and safety should be respected more. A "luxury" brand should be BETTER than a Toyota or Mazda in terms of safety and reliability AND also be better at driving "fun" and handling and power etc. You should not take a step BACKWARDS when you pay double or triple the price. In other words, a BMW and Mercedes, and Audi should be scoring 1-2-3 all the time every time on every vehicle over a Mazda, Toyota Lexus, Honda. And yet these Germans can't even beat Hyundai and Kia or even Ford (shudder). Anytime I read the words "German Engineering" I think "Thanks for the warning" and when I see people in these cars I am not impressed at how wealthy they are I think they are suckers and Yuppies. The answer is always Miata!

    I agree with you regarding the heated seats front and back and the heated steering wheel. I find that I like the the design of the Audi and BMW more and if I was going to choose, I would go with the X1 because it's the biggest of the 3. On the other hand the BMW doesn't have blind spot detection which is weird because if you have the executive package or the parking assist the Bimmer has extra side sensors that are very sensitive so why couldn't these be used to do that function. Also you mentioned that this would be a good vehicle as a starter SUV or a younger family or second car...I also believe that this vehicle would be good as a main vehicle for a newly retired couple/empty nesters. Not sure if the Mercedes can be modified through the OBDII Bluetooth connector, app and software you can modify and change options and even power like the Dinan Tuner, BMS chip or JB4+ chip. The Audi and the Mercedes have more options included with their main package. Also I would remove the all season tires as they're noisy and keep the 18" wheels for the winter tires and get 19" aftermarket wheels with performance summer tires for summer. BTW - Was that Marine Drive in Vancouver? Such a beautiful road!

      None. Premium car brands generally are not reliable and do not ranked high in reliability study by Consumer Reports or equivalent. For premium car buyers it's the premium driving experience and the badge that matter. They often switch cars every few years and getting their money's worth is not high on their priorities. Most of the premium cars are endless money pits after a few years on the road. That's why premium cars are often leased rather than purchased.

      You can say the same thing about RDX and a Dodge Journey for example. It is bigger, and much less expensive than an Acura RDX. All these makes/models have a certain appeal and are priced according to that. That’s why a Porsche Macan for example is even more expensive than this MB...

      @@ramspace Fair question. I have a new Camry SE 4cyl. What's more important to me was resale and reliability. Since power and fuel mileage is similar within the segment, actual HP numbers were irrelevant in my decision. Dealer and product reputation were far more important to me. IMO if someone buys a certain model over another due to 7 to 20 hp they're not buying what they really like. They're buying what they've been convinced to buy or what they think others will be impressed by.

    • @austenrichardgeorge842
      @austenrichardgeorge842 Před 3 lety +1

      It's not as good as a Rav 4. Drive them both to 300,000km and see how many times each will need to be repaired and for how much. The Mercedes won't even make it that long - it will be lucky to get out of the warranty. Even the RAV 4 Hybrid has a 10 year 250,000Km warranty on the thing. Those BMW hybrids 4 year 80,000KM - and Mercedes is no better. It's a joke. The German car name badges say to people that the owners are nitwits for paying double or triple a Japanese car for worse reliability and high maintenance.
      I understand a luxury sports car - a Mercedes sports car or BMW - you expect to put money into repairs - but an SUV is bonkers. The marginal improvement they have over a Toyota, Lexus, Acura, Subaru, Mazda, and the atrocious reliability and ridiculous upcharge for the parts and labour to fix them makes their owners look dumb. Buy a RAV 4 or Highlander or Subaru Outback for family hauling and get yourself a Posche or Mercedes AMG etc for the expensive handling and expensive fun.

      I find that the BMW and Audi are better looking especially from the side and rear. Not to fond of that melted butter look. The interiors in the Bimmers and Audis are nice too. I remember the early Mercedes SUV's, my friends that drove them spent half their time driving to the dealership for mechanical issues. I would wait a while to see what the driver reviews are after a year or two. X1's and especially the X3 are very well manufactured and the X3 has excellent reviews overall from Consumer Reports, in fact one of the highest for any vehicle that they've tested recently.

    Audis have better fit and finish, and BMWs drive better. So if you buy a Benz, you get a car that’s not quite as well finished as an Audi, and which drives almost as well as a BMW. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz is the worst premium carmaker for customer support. They are the Antichrist at this. This company seems to think Consumer Law is optional, or negotiable. Something those dicks are above.
    They are complete assholes when you have a problem, and they will fight you every inch of the way - to the point of exhaustion.
    Mercedes-Benz seems to think it’s doing you a favor by allowing you to drive one of ‘their’ cars. And they are total money pits.
    My strong advice is: Buy a BMW or a Lexus.
