You can actually print out the textbook. We do that because my son is a tactile and visual learner, plus I like having a written record of all of the lecture notes as well as his work. Shormann math is amazing!!!! If you decide to print the textbook, I highly recommend printing it in 25-lesson chunks.

This is timely! My oldest starts high school this year, and after using Math-U-See for years, we have been contemplating making the change to this curriculum for math this year.

Thank you! We are trying Shormann this year based on your recommendation.

Are you going to have your youngest move on to Shormann pre algebra for 7th or use TGTB?

Thank you Ashlee! We’re only in 5th grade at the highest level here, but I appreciate all the info for older kids so much.

We are about to start Shorman for my two oldest children (pre-algebra and algebra 1) and after reading through all the parent info and recommended materials, I am wondering what extra materials would you also recommend based on your children's experiences? A spiral notebook and folder or a binder? Did you use the recommended 4x6 notebook for formulas or would any kind of flash card work? I'm sure it depends on the childs preferences, just wondering what worked well for you guys. Thanks for recommending Shorman - we have tried Masterbooks, Teaching Textbooks, and TGATB - and weren't thrilled with any of them, though they all had their pros/cons... my children and I are looking forward to starting Shorman in August!

I'm having my 7th grader do Shormann Prealgebra.

My 4 oldest kids can attest to the gaps in Teaching textbooks’ levels above 5th grade.
We tested 2 levels behind TGTB and I was constantly checking their TT grades and going over incorrect answers.

Textbook’s… not sure why it autocorrected it incorrectly. 😂

Is this a spiral approach learning style? My kiddo does math with confidence, and thrives because of its systematic way of teaching. We love that new concepts are taught with a mastery approach, but then there’s spiral review of previously taught concepts every day. Does shorman teach something different everyday?

On average how long does it take to complete a lesson? I know every child is different but would like an idea of time length.

I am planning on my 9th grade daughter doing Shormann Algebra 1 this fall, having just finished Saxon Algebra 1/2 last year. My 8th grade daughter also just did Saxon 8/7…and could actually be ready to do Shormann’s Algebra 1 as well. I’m thinking about having both girls do the course together?! Is that doable? Or a terrible idea? 😬

My daughter did horizon for 1st and 2nd grade. Then teaching textbooks 3rd, 4th and 5th.
What would you recommend we do for 6th?
I plan on using Shermann starting in 7th.

Apologia math seems really good! I'm trying it this upcoming school year with my 6th grader.

Make sure she tests before Shermann… my daughters standardized tests were not good after 2 years of TT. She used to be a few years ahead when we used Abeka but after finishing TT 6 and 7 her score dropped.

Im thinking of doing Saxon for 6th and 7th with Dr Sherman’s videos.
      Then
      For 8th starting his curriculums.
      What are you opinions?

This is *sort of* related in that we are doing Shormann Math & Science for our 8th and 11th graders this year. We just started this week. Did you buy the lab kits? Cha-ching! I haven't yet, and im wondering how you handled that. TIA

Why don't you recommend POM? My son has always used masterbooks math so his next step is POM.. I'm very very torn on whather or not to use them or something else/online courses.. I'm about to have him take shormanns placement test.. I have no idea if the masterbooks math will have left gaps or be behind or on par...

Have you heard of Mr D math? It's supposed to be another good online math curriculum. Also Dennison math sounds really good.
We used Masterbooks this last school year. We're using Apologia math this upcoming year for my 6th grader. And considering Mr D math for 7th grade.
Hope you find the right one!

    • @A-G5518
      @A-G5518 Před měsícem

@@joidavis5210 yes I've heard of both, dennison is meant for kids who didn't excel in math so that won't work for my son. I was considering Mr D but then I went to a used consignment sale and found POM for $10 and someone there talked me into math u see which was also there for $20 so I just grabbed both and will figure it out..

Why do you not recommend principles of mathematics with masterbooks? I was looking at it but also looking at shoreman mathematics for my 8th grader.

Poor instruction/ no solutions worked out. Boring. Confusing. My son who loves and excels in math was struggling. It was not good for us at all!

My daughter just barely tested into Shormann Algebra 1 after doing 6 levels of Singapore. Would you go with it? It seems early for 7th grade.
